I'm so glad you did Mya! The Industry did her wrong. And the people in the industry did her wrong too. They put out rumors on her that weren't even true and she spoke up about them and the abuse in the industry and ended up getting blacklisted. All because she wanted to keep her dignity and didn't want to play the game. She chose to keep her soul I stead of the type of career the Industry Execs wanted her to have. They could care less about the Artist. Dave Chapelle will tell you on majority of these contracts, they don't even have the decency to have the person's name until the very end which is the signature. It just says "The Artist". As a hungry Artist (especially back in the day), that money looks real good, until that person realizes they have to pay that money back, plus more. But NOW, with the help of SoundCloud, KZbin, TikTok, and other platforms, you don't need to sign to bee seen, heard, and get your music out. Music companies are losing billions and they can't do nothing about it. What are they gonna do? Shut down social media? I think not. TBH, they are getting what they deserve. They've spent years stealing from Artists---which, was allowed and it was just "business". But if the Artist "stole" from them, IE fought to get the money they are owed and deserve, it's a problem. Almost like grand larceny or something, see what I'm saying? They've lost a ton of power nowadays, but still come at the ones who try to speak up against them. It’s widely accepted to crap on unattractive people, beautiful people get defended by others and are sympathized with. Also, as an ugly woman, I’ve experienced those things you mentioned. Being ugly doesn’t shield you from those, quite the opposite. Especially when it comes to bullying. I’m not saying this is a contest, but we gotta put things into perspective here. Beauty will always be admired and valued in our society, that’s never going away. Beautiful people still experience way more perks due to their appearance and they also have more opportunities in life than others. The good outweighs the bad, easily. In the FED case someone testified that R. Kelly wasn’t pressed with JayZ. FIESTA wouldn’t have happened if JayZ wasn’t already paid upfront. He was used to everyone kissing his ass for features and clout, but R. Kelly was popping too! JayZ was ready to go back to Tribeca. The Mya incident is similar to the R. Kelly situation. It’s just that she wasn’t as important as R. Kelly actually matter. She’s lucky JayZ wasn’t petty enough to have her blackballed.

When she came on the screen singing “It’s all about me” as a new singer I was such a fan. Her voice was so beautiful. Sadly the brown and dark skinned girls were jealous of her attention because she’s biracial so some of them started hating. We all know there’s beautiful brown and dark skinned women but that was real at the time. I remember all the girls in my middle school walking around with chopsticks 🥢 in their heads and getting Asian tattoos and my teacher telling us to be careful about getting tattoos that we don’t know what it means.

Sadly her beauty sparked up a lot of controversy dealing with her petite figure and the fact that she was biracial. People would say she was too skinny and not black enough. She has so many great songs and her voice is nowhere near weak. It’s light and feminine. I think she was such a talent that people didn’t even know how to deal with her so they casted her aside since she didn’t allow them to take advantage of her. She had this extra about her because she really studied how to perfect her dancing.

Mya was able to keep her sanity and her looks. She wasn’t going to turn out to be a baby mama, an industry chick or some has been who had to result to reality TV to make ends meet. She’s one of the most underrated female artist from the Millennium generation but her livelihood comes first. Mya isn’t mainstream anymore but she still puts out quality music today and still one of the best female dancers/performers. These young female “artist” today can’t lace up her damn boots. BTW… I don’t know why Mya didn’t just become a song writer. She’s an amazing talent and has written her hits like, “movin’ on”, “best of me”, “free”, etc. Mya could’ve also easily been a choreographer for upcoming artist. The industry playing with my sis like she wasn’t “that girl”.
