What her story taught me was, it’s not how you started but how you ended! She made those last few years count and helped save and transform so many lives. I don’t care for all the details of her past where she was just hurting. She gracefully used her pain as a testimony! What a powerful woman. I hope her story continues to inspire so many more for ages to come ❤️ Watch this video next “Mayte EXPOSES the lies & DARK truth behind her marriage with Prince!” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqmon5uLi6tqoJo

I am probably the biggest prince fan ever he is transitioned over to my family life when my mom died she died and was buried with her prince picture so its deep. I was there for vanity era and man you had me tearing up you are without a doubt the best channel on you tube i love Prince but yea he and vanity had a toxic relationship but i want to also state that for years Prinxe offered to take care of all her medical expenses but vanity would not accept his money .. They had also re connected once Prince became jehovah witness and they were going to make plans to meet with each other and read the bible also prince added her name as a writer on the song come because I think he used her moans he did this so she could get publishing checks because she would not accept his money. Prince had called to take care of her services but they told him she wished to be cremated he was truly heartbroken once she passed so I am not shocked he went not long after I was just shocked on how quickly he went. Great job I am following u on Instagram but u never respond lol

I attended Church with Denise. OMG when God came into her life she looked like an angel. She loved Jesus so much. She carried around index cards with scripture on them that she always held close to her heart. She was a true believer. I can tell you it ended well for her. She found peace and she always took responsibility for what she did in her body that caused her illness. I loved being around her. She went from being sultry to having this innocent childlike quality. She was beautiful. Denise Matthews!!!

She laughed at me and the Bishop's daughter singing 7th Heaven. Clearly we loved Last Dragon lol. One thing that stands out to me is I attempted to call her Vanity which she quickly corrected. She said, "I'm not the same person I was when I was w Prince. You can call me Denise, not Vanity". She was so sweet but clearly bothered by the attachment. What a powerful speaker she was. I was one of the people she casually gave out her number to. We were FB friends and I inquired about some of her things that she started to sell. She gave me her number and told me to call her. I did and she was the sweetest person. She had the same voice that I knew from being a fan for years. We talked about regular things.. what she did that day, her cats, ect.. never about her past in entertainment. I told her that I had a copy of her book and she had autographed it for me. She said "You have a copy of that!? You hold on to it because when I die it's going to be worth a lot of money" I responded with "Oh you're not going anywhere anytime soon" not even 2 years later she was gone. I will always treasure being able to speak with her. She was so sweet, almost childlike. I will never sell that book or any of the items I purchased from her. She even had them engraved and sent me signed photos of herself for free. I also remember the first time we spoke. I was so nervous and I asked if this was "Ms Denise" to show respect. She giggled and said "Yes, this is Denise" after that I just called her Denise 😄. 🙏🏾 Rest in peace beautiful.

I was an aspiring singer and her story made me realize how damaging the entertainment industry could be, especially for someone who values purity. She visited my church to speak for a few days back in the early 2000s, It was her that taught me that money, fame, and narcissism wasn't worth anything, ppl only use those things to make up for the lack of holy spirit that they are missing. You did another fantastic job! This one here is really special to me because I’ve been following Denise for years. As a young lady in the 80s I can remember she brought out that style of wearing lingerie for regular wear. My family was so upset when I wore lingerie as a top with jeans. When she almost died in the 90s that turned her life around & she became very religious. At that point in my life I was a mom & I remember watching her preaching about God & about being saved on the Christian channels. She was proud to be saved & proud to talk about Jesus. She loved herself Jesus & she wasn’t afraid to speak out about religion & to let the world know. I respected her even more because of that. She achieved her salvation of being obedient to God to the very end. She has inspired me to keep on believing & keeping God in my life.

Prince and Vanity both had a lot in common especially with their childhood trauma Abandonment, molestation, and Abuse at young ages he had an abusive stepfather who cause him to leave his mother’s home when he was only 12 years old and his Father kicked him out leaving him homeless for being caught with one of his father’s girlfriends ( a grown woman) he said himself he hated feeling unwanted and unloved and it made him angry and bitter inside. Both of them were abandoned by their parents at young ages too I have since learned so much about him regarding his life and her’s as well Vanity’s father molested her and beat her from the time she was 4 to 15 years old and his death she went into modeling and eventually Prince discovered her and promised to make her a star and he kept his promise they were so similar that’s why she and Prince clashed the way they did was because they had trauma in common but they handled it in different ways she had attachment trauma and Prince had abandonment trauma they were spiritually and emotionally connected throughout both of their lives and very much Twin flames 🔥 Twin Flames usually have Chaotic relationships but they always end up together in the end but she always thank him for giving her an opportunity to become famous in show business she was like a nurturing mother that he was looking for and she said he was like a father figure to her

What destroyed vanity was her horrific childhood in her own words she was raped tortured and beaten by her father regularly. Her mother dumped her on a doorstep at age 4 her white grandmother hated her and was ashamed of her because she was half black. Her father would tell her he wasnt her real father. Her father then passed when she was 15 or 16 she and her sisters were then left with no one to take care of them, alone they had to grow up fast and raise themselves. How do you get over that childhood and upbringing, you are doomed from the start. In my eye you could say prince rescued her saved her, I believe he truely loved her and never got over her. They were soulmates and she never had a bad word to say about prince. He made all her childhood dreams come true. However it was not the fairy tale she dreamed of the industry is just as dark and abusive as her childhood so it became a nightmare, she was clearly used and passed around. I hope shes at peace.

That part where you said "we sell our souls all the time" i broke out in tears. This is the truest statement I have heard today. We do sell our souls and compromise our moral values to cope with life more than we care to admit, the fleeting happiness that comes with that also comes with this debt you can never pay pack called regret. Forgiving oneself is not an easy task, i would go as far as to call it a skill. Those who learn and let go of the past and forgive themselves for sinking low have a better chance at repaying this debt. I also wanna touch on how you were able to eloquently discuss Prince's role in Vanity's life without demonizing him. We all make mistake (guaranteed some are far greater than others) but the goal is to always learn and grow, which is somewhat put in contrast with today's cancel culture. Keep preaching, Karine. Your message in this video really touched me (which isn't surprising you always come through with the wisdom and sagacity. So glad I found your channel ♥️

I definitely agree with that line people always scream that about celebrities but everyday people do the shame to get a job, keep a job, survive, do school, interact with certain people etc

Very eloquently stated. And I believe Prince did evolve over the years, stating at one point that he was celibate. I'm sure that although Prince regularly stated that he did not look backwards, I feel that he would have reflected on the time they spent together and felt remorse for the pain he caused to Denise. He illustrated his ability to analyse his relationships with and between his parents in his autobiography. What a shame that he only got to begin to tell his story, in his own words.

Oops hit send too soon, but anyway Joan's staffers all said she was the one they would most like to be with of all the women. I'm Christian too so love her talking about her faith as well even if she did take it almost slightly too far into holy roller territory, but hopefully some of it rubbed off on Prince near his passing. She was so talented and stunning...one of those almost forgotten 80s stars who I'm surprised doesn't get way more recognition. None of the dark haired beauties of today even hold a candle to her and her effortless feminity (even when she was partaking in partying like pretty much everyone else in the 80s and early 90s she still had a sweetness to her). RIP Denise!

Both Denise and Prince found God in the end. I was at that concert in Atlanta where her spoke of her passing, he was deeply hurt. I have been to Prince concerts since childhood, but had never seen him emotional, not in the tears since, but his words, actions, you could FEEL IT! He was my favorite artist of all time. I love the way he spoke of her, then played songs, those who know--know. For the longest time Prince would not perform any of his Dirty Mind era and certain songs after becoming a Jehovah's Witness. Prince, too had a tragic childhood. May they both see The Dawn and dance Under The Cherry Moon. Rest Well to both of these beloved Icons. I follwed Denise when she became an Evangelist and The Light of Christ shined so brightly in her, she truly loved Jesus! I believe Prince died of a broken heart. He was the same age, and died a few months apart from Denise. Denise was a beautiful, pure soul through Christ to the core!🕊🙏🏽

For a long time, despite his “Dirty music era”, he was searching for higher meaning in life. He found it when Larry Graham (Sly and the Family Stone) talked to him about his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Prince gobbled up every scripture and knowledge he could and from that moment on, his life changed. He became more at peace, a calmness about him, and a happiness that he finally seem to have achieved. He talked to a lot of celebs about his faith. He continued making great music, but wherever he played, the first thing he would say is “ All glory goes to my Heavenly Father, Jehovah”. He died with his firm beliefs intact. I recall seeing pics of him at Jehovah’s Witness conventions, usually sitting with Graham or someone from his congregation. No witness was bothering him or clamoring to meet him because Witnesses don’t do that, so Prince enjoyed just being himself. The pics I saw was from someone I knew who was in the row below him on the far left, so they were all side-view. It was his hip. It gave him so much pain and he was suppose to have surgery to relieve some of the pain. But as can often happen when you’re in a lot of pain, you take more than prescribed because you just want it to stop. That’s what happened to Prince. He overdosed on the medicine that was supposed to relieve him of pain. But at least he died with his state of mind at peace. I remember he had requested, if he ever died, that Graham have his funeral at the Hall he attended near him, but because he did not leave a definitive will, his family ( non-witnesses) took over everything. I recall all the adoration, the crying, the decorations, songs that Prince had stopped singing long ago and thinking , “Prince would have hated this”, but Graham was not family so he stepped back. However, the Hall he attended alone with all the friends he knew there had a simple memorial service for him, which was what he wanted. The only decoration was a large picture of Prince sitting on a cloth covered table on the stage. A discourse was given about his hope for the future and what God promises and the hope to one day see Prince alive, well, and healthy. A beautiful song was sung and a reception afterwards. There was no screams of distress, no uncontrollable crying because they believe as Prince believed; that he was only sleeping in death and just as Jesus resurrected Lazarus from his tomb, Prince had that same hope.

You can often tell what is inside a person by looking in their eyes. I am English, but was young in the 80's, and adored Prince, even though I was more into alternative music. Denise has the most beautiful eyes, full of kindness. Childhood abuse is so destructive, these parents are committing their children to lifelong misery and pain, but somehow Denise's beauty shone through. I still think a lot about Prince, and those heady days when every song he wrote was a joy. Ok, his music could be erotic, but he was not seedy or a sleaze. I feel we should celebrate Prince for the gifts God gave him: he was musically truly gifted, the type of ability that you are born with. God Bless them both

Denise Matthews was a wonderful person. I had the opportunity of spending some time with her when she came to Cleveland, OH. I met her at one church and she invited me to come to another one the next day. Of course I went. After the service a lot of people wanted to meet her so I went and sat in the pew behind her. After the crowd settled down she turned around and saw me and said "Ooh goody you came"! In my head I was like what how can you be excited to see me. I'm just Scott. We had a short conversation and she asked me if I was I had been baptised. I said yes, when I was a child. Then she said you know that doesn't count right. I agreed. So she invited me to come back to her hotel room and said to go home and get my swim trunks cause she would baptise me. In my head I'm like omg, but I don't know if I let on. So I went back home got my swim trunks and was off to the hotel. When I got thare there was a group of people from the church whom I have lost touch with as that was like sometime between 2003 and 2005. Btw i was drinking coca cola at the time but hid it well. I was also still listening to her music which I knew she did not like. At the hotel we all talked about our experiences with God. I am spriitual but not so much Christian like she was. She told me to read the bible and to form a relationship with Jesus. After we all talked Denise had to go into the other room and do dialysis. During that time I spoke with the other people. Then Denise came back and said ok go into the bathroom and get into your swim trunks so we can go to the pool where I will baptise you. I'm a pretty slender guy so I said one thing. She was like what. I said do not laugh at me as I am real skinny. She said you look fine. Then I said u ain't seen me in swim trunks. She said you'll be fine. I went into the bathroom to change and when I came out she was like oh you are skinny but you don't look bad and we laughted. Then we went to the pool and Denise baptised me. After that Denise said now it's time to go eat and you are coming with us. When we were ready to leave and walked outside Denise said I'm riding with you and I was like you can't ride with me. She said why I said cause my car is junky and you can't see that. She then said I been in some pretty bad places it'll be ok so she walked with me to my car. I had all kinds of junk in my backseat. Nothing bad just a bunch of stuff in the backseat and a little in the front passenger seat. So she said you're right I will ride with someone else and I said no let me move this stuff to the back. I did and Denise got in. At that point I had to rush around the car and get in. cause her cds were on my car door as I had been listening to her and I did not want her to see them. Also her cd was in and I knew when I turned on the car it would be blasting. Luckily I was able to turn the cd player off right when I started the car and she did no know. As we were driving to Cracker Barrel we had a great conversation as if we were old friends. She was a wonderful beautiful and very nice person. We talked about drug use although I did not tell her I did. Also we discussed Prince. When I mentioned him she lit up so bright. I could tell she still loved him but she shared that she doesn't talk to many people from her past as they are not like her. I think I said something like I can tell you really love him and she agreed. Then sIhe asked me if I had ever been in love. My response was no not like you and she said oh hun you will find it one day and rublbed my knee a bit. I was like omg Vanity touched me on the inside which made my inner child very happy as I grew up believing she was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was my teenage dream and I could not believe she was hanging out with me and so nice. We finally got to Cracker Barrel, and she told me to sit next to her. She ordered fried chicken. I just ordered something but I don't remember. Then she began talking about how good the chicken was and I was like really and then she said here taste it. She was on my left and she basically held the chicken up to my mouth and I was thinking I cannot bite into your food, but that inner child was like this is your only change you better so I did. On the inside I was still a fan and was like omg, but I don't think I let on. After dinner we drove back to the hotel and exchanged information. Denise was living in CA and I was in Cleveland but we stayed in tough for a while. Everytime I called she was so nice and remembered me. My email was hacked and she received spam from my email and responded. That was the last contact we had. I wish I'd stayed in touch. She was a really really good person and very sweet soul. I think I lost her number. Btw I do not believe for a moment that she was flirting she was just a good person. Prince and Vanity were my favorite couple and childhood idols. Funny a few years later I was able to get into Prince's sound check in Atlanta on two different occasions. I had no idea I was given that chance by the universe cause only God knows that eventhough my personal dreams of being a performer produced by Prince and opening for Vanity 6, The Time, and Prince. That was my dream. Idk what I was thinking.... Can you imagine that on a billboard Prince, The Time, and Vanity 6 with special guest star Scott? But the universe gave me a day with Vanity/Denise and two days in the prescence of Prince. I did sing back up during the sound check and the next day Prince remembered me and at the beginning of the show he was inviting people onstage and I was one of them. Good times. I am so thankful. Not many people are able to meet or be around their teen idols. Honestly both were a lot more normal than people think. Great soul they both are!!!! Although I am older and have changed I am so thankful for the chance to see how much we all are very much alike. I thought Denise would be conceited and stuck up but she was quite the opposite. Also Prince is very funny and I'm pretty sure he was psychic but that's another story..... Thanks for the video!!!!!

Your story of Evangelist Denise Mathews is not a coincidence. Therefore, you must give your entire life to Jesus Christ just as Denise did. God allowed you to meet, greet, and spend precious time with Denise to see God's heart here on earth through His beloved daughter, Denise. I don't know where you stand with Christ, but I plead with you, as Denise would do too, please give your life to Jesus Christ. Tomorrow is not a promise, but today, this hour, and this moment is the time to ask Christ to forgive you for your sins, turn away from your sins through repentance, and give Jesus Christ your life through a personal relationship with God's Son, Jesus Christ. It is then and only then that you will see Denise Mathews again. Guess what? She will be so happy to see you in heaven worshipping the King of kings, her Lord and Saviour alongside her, singing, making melodies, and praising Him, Jesus Christ forever and ever, while enjoying a forever friendship with Denise Mathews. Jesus loves you. Denise loves you. Would you commit your entire life to Christ Jesus, Today? Tomorrow is not promised to you, but today is the day of salvation. Today is the day of rejoicing. Today is the appointed time to please drop to your knees, bend your head, neck, heart, and all in reverence, honor, and submission to Denise's One and Only True and living God, her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Please bow before Christ's presence and give Him your all and all, and your total life. God Bless you. God loves you, passionately. Blessings

Great video. I don't really think Prince ruined Denise's life, I think they were incredibly young and Prince was starting to have such Stardom. He was able to have so many different women and was acting like many young men do when women are attracted to them. Denise wasn't having it too long and moved on. (Rightfully so) I do believe they had true love between them that was eternal. They were Soul mates but they weren't able to stay together in this physical realm. God had other plans for Denise & Prince's life journey's. They both gave their lives to God in the end. Thanks for telling her story so eloquently and respectfully.

Aside from being a Prince Fan myself, since I was a young teen, I've always loved and admired Denise Matthews. A lot of people see her life as a tragedy. But I've always seen her life as a tragedy to TRIUMPH!!! type of life story. Literally! She went through hell and back, then Christ came into her life. She took a 360 degree turn around and never looked back! Matthews followed Christ with such strong unwavered faith until the day she transcended. As a believer myself, her life and walk of faith, has always encouraged and inspired me. I will always love and respect her. RIH Ms. Matthews.💛🕊 Thankyou for making a commentary video on this Beloved Soul. The next generation need to know who she really was later in life and not just who she was in her "high life" days as "Vanity"! And people shouldn't be so offended if certain truths in her life, don't show Prince in the best light. We are all adults! And we shouldn't get so offended. We have to be mature and conscious enough to know that NO ONE is perfect, even the ones that you hold in high regard in music/entertainment or in any field. Again, I myself have always been and still am a Prince fan/supporter, but even I know, that he wasn't always fair or kind to the ones who personally knew him. Nevertheless, I have nothing but love and respect for the both of them. RIH to The Purple One and again, to Denise K. Matthews.💛

He was a good person. Even good people do bad things, while that doesn't justify the fact that he was a womanizer....take a look at it this way, he had mommy issues... He was abused as a child so hurt people hurt people . He had built up anger inside him and I guess he expressed it towards the people close to him, I don't think he meant it. His close people would tell you he was a good person. He was just bad when it came to relationships.

I had the privilege of getting to know Ms Denise during her final years of life. I had met her in Fremont CA at PetSmart or Petco, I can't remember which one since this was almost 20 years ago. She was walking with a cane, and was blind in one eye. I didn't even recognize who she was because she looked nothing like the Denise I had seen that was with Vanity 6...She revealed to me that she used to perform with Vanity 6 and Prince. I did not believe her when she first told me who she was, but as she kept talking I knew she was legit, and I did see some similarities between what she looked like then verses what she looked like when she was with Vanity. I can't remember who struck up a conversation with who first, but we ended up talking about the Bible... She said she was a minister as well I. I ended up giving her a ride home from the pet store. On the ride home, she talked about the Bible the entire time. We actually become good friends and would call one another... The last time I seen her, I had picked her up and took her to a festival in downtown Fremont. After that, I lost touch with her. She was indeed a beautiful soul! ❤️

Both were emotionally and physically abused as children. They had trouble trusting anyone with their emotions. She asked him to marry her in 1994 but he refused even though they had just been intimate. That was the reason for her drug overdose that destroyed her kidneys. I think he always loved her but she left him and this closed him down to trusting her again. When she married he was devastated.

Thank you for this bio on Denise "Vanity" Matthews. Clearly, so stunning.I remember her interviews about getting saved in the 90s and cutting ties with Hollywood to become an evangelist. I did not know she was so giving to homeless people and animals, which warms my heart even more. It is harsh that she suffered such severe health problems and died young as a result of an addiction she conquered years before. But I agree that anyone who lives for Christ is not tragic. They are blessed. Now, is there an update bio on whatever happened to Miss Apollonia? 😊
