After losing his first run for governor of Alabama George Wallace said something like "I talked about taxes and highways and deficits and Patterson talked about segregation and I lost. I'll never get out segregated in an election again". The next election Wallace talked a lot about segregation and won. It's true that all sorts of barriers made it very hard for Black people to vote but even if all Black people had voted the white majority was in no mood for equality for Black people. And that's still true in a lot of Republican states today. Though I will say that in a true democracy the majority would not oppress the minority.

The alliance, called the Three Brotherhood Alliance, said in a statement Monday that the Arakan Army had attacked two border outposts in Maungdaw township in Rakhine state and captured one of them on Sunday. Bangladesh is already feeling the heat of escalating clashes in the bordering regions, with the sound of gunfights keeping the locals in bordering areas awake at nights. In the last five days, fighting between the Arakan Army and the military junta flared once again. As a result, mortal shells are falling inside the Bangladeshi territory and has caused at least two deaths and multiple injuries. Some 264 members of Myanmar's border and security forces have entered the Bangladesh side illegally to escape fighting, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (as of 3:45 pm Tuesday). The Myanmaar civil war, is similar to WW2, everyone is fighting a common enemy, but would split apart after the war. If the rebels won(which is not impossible), this would lead to either a formation of highly unstable state with constant civilwars, like in South Sudan, or would lead to an ineffective government, similar to Iraq, where the internationally recognized government is struggling to assert its control over most of the country.

An multi-ethnic federal democracy could be a bad idea. In Malaysia, ethnic minorities, including the affluent Chinese and Indian population, are marginalised as the Malay always have the majority and everyone votes on ethnic lines, whereas Singapore, which broke away, has been more successful and avoided such ethnic tensions. Then again, if they break apart, the former Yugoslavia shows how problematic that can be. It would leave a bunch of tiny, poor countries too, with a militarised population with nothing to do. Former soldiers make poor farmers.

Their families are so rich in Myanmar, you can't even imagine it. Do you know that too? Of course not! What I am saying is they are doing this because they want power. They want to feel like the king of the country, where when they say die, people will die. That’s what they want, not money, because they already have all of that. You might wonder why we're fighting now. Why didn't we fight before? We've been fighting our whole life. The international community didn't care. Most people didn't have internet, light, or enough education to know what the hell was going on in the country. Well, because they made it that way! Have any of you seen some of the combat footage the anti-Junta fighters made? It's like every platoon has a guy recording it on his phone. It's crazy. Btw, a lot of the anti-Junta forces are armed with a whole range of weapons, but mainly Chinese ones. Chinese copies of AKs, local copies of Chinese-designed rifles. Many others have a mix of modern Western and Soviet/Russian guns, some leftover guns from the World Wars. I saw one PDF fighter use an M1 Carbine. I saw another anti-Junta group have a modernized PPSh-41 with a pistol grip and folding wire stock welded on, replacing the PPSh's rifle grip. It also had a foregrip welded under the barrel shroud and a suppressor. I also saw the KNLA (i think) with an anti-aircraft rifle. Yes, an AA rifle (basically, it was a .50 cal sniper rifle on a tripod - actually sounds pretty useful against helicopters). And I remember a PDF guy using an M79, that single-shot grenade launcher used in the Vietnam War. The "alphabet soup" of anti-Tat groups (from "Tatmadaw," the name of Myanmar's armed forces) are all united in their hatred of the Tat (which can refer to just the armed forces of Myanmar or to the Junta-controlled government as a whole: the police and border guards are also routinely targeted by anti-Tat forces). But as a wise woman once said, "To be united by hatred is a fragile alliance at best." I hope Myanmar can turn hate into peace and end the fighting. Personally I'd like to see the Junta collapse and a democratically-elected government just run things normally, without bombing random villages or conscripting masses of people.
