hahahaha, gotta love aussies. they're so attached to their people that they would consider being locked in a shower as "a great distance, from those who they love"....so vocal. love my aussie! he loves baths. great video

I also wash him in sections. Or else it takes a hundred years. He also likes to rest on my shoulder when I wash his shoulders.

My Aussie pup does pretty well tbh. She's 8 months now and she doesn't whine or bark at all when I give her a bath and she'll literally just stand there. She is a little timid at first but once the water hits her she realizes it's not gonna hurt her and she's good. I know you're not supposed to bathe them very often so I tend to only bathe her when she's physically dirty and smelly. Like, my sister and I started going to the dog park once a week with our Aussie siblings (my girl does really well considering how shy she usually is) so if we come back from that and she has mud or dirt on her or smells, etc then I have to bathe her or else she won't be allowed in the house. And she can't stay outside. And we go out to the trail once and a while so if she gets dirty, etc then it's bath time. Otherwise I give her a dry bath, brush her and she's good. My sister on the other hand never bathes either of her dogs. Her Aussie is... I wanna say a little heifer, even though she says that's normal for male Aussies. I've yet to see an Aussie dog that thick. His fur is so rough and gritty that you can tell he's never been brushed or bathed. My baby on the other hand has gotten compliments on her fur. It's soft, she has a shiny coat and it's clean. Our Aussies are a medium size breed. I'm 5'3 and she's knee level I think. The only issues I've had with my dog is potty training (which she seems to be fully trained now. I hope) and eating. My sister's dog will eat four cups of dog food a day and mine will eat 1cup, maybe 2 cups. But she's so obsessed with human food, which I try not to give her any of. I made it clear when I bought her I didn't want her to have any but family will be family...🙄 My mom is obsessed with making sure kids and animals eat. My dog is taller for her gender and size class but a little on the leaner side. She looks like a healthy Aussie. She is very hyper and loves to run around. Her name is Bailey and her brother is Loki. Her brother has a condition known as pika and I'm so glad mine doesn't. Her Aussie nearly died a few weeks ago from something he ate and needed emergency surgery. My baby is a good girl.

Thanks for the tips! My aussie is 8 years old this summer and he's a farm dog so we don't really do much treatment or bathing as we should. but i'm getting another one so hopefully this one will pick up on good habits! :)

Awesome! Having 2 has been a lot of fun and I have definitely noticed different behaviors transferring between the two of them (some good, some not so good). Best of luck!

Hello, I am getting an Australian Shepherd in June. My profile pic is him, and we are getting him from an amazing breeder in Arkansas. I just have a few questions.. What toys do you recommend for this breed, puppy and adult. How often do you bathe them? Do they like the cold or warm (I live in New England.) Do you recommend harness use? What brand of dog food do you use? What dog brushes do you use? What dog treats do you use? Fun tricks to teach an Aussie? Thanks :)
@MyAussieBlogVideos10 жыл бұрын
Toys - You'll have to experiment to figure out what your dog likes. Sydney enjoys ALL toys and Trooper has 2 that he likes - both are plush soft toys that he rips the stuffing out of and then he licks/bites/carries the empty fabric. Grooming - As needed. Once a week can be too often if the weather is dry. In the summer, if they're messy, my aussies get a bath once every week and a half to two weeks. But we'll go months in the winter because they don't get dirty. Weather - We live in New England. Unless they're shaved, they don't enjoy really hot weather. But I shave them and then they love it. Even if it is crazy hot, they like to go sit in the shade and enjoy the outdoors. They don't mind the cold at ALL. Harness use - Definitely but it shouldn't be used as a way to tolerate bad leash behavior. It protects their neck and gives you more control. Start early and your dog should have no problem with the process. Dog food, brushes, treats, tricks - I have discussed these subjects on my blog. You can check it out at www.myaustralianshepherd.net.

I got an Australian Shepard puppy and he's about 2-3 months old he like stuffed animal toys NOT SQUEAKY TOYS and I usually bath him in cold water and he hates it I've never really tried to bath him in warm water and you can bath him about 1-2 times a week or when he really needs one and I use a brush that is supposed to collect loose fur a bad they are AMAZING dogs
@wolf-kissedrosie692 жыл бұрын
@@colekennedy3507 My pup was scared of any toys that made noise but after a while she started to love them. I've caught her a few times just laying down with a toy in her mouth just squeaking it iver and over again. I made her a squeaky toy and she loves it.

Hello, I have my puppy of 4 months old and I am about to give him his second bath, first one wasn't bad at all. I am just wondering if you could add the link of the product/shampoo you used? I bought one from Walmart which has zero alcohol and isn't too bad but he has also itchy skin and I think yours will work better! Thank you!!

I would like to encourage you to give your sweet Trooper a good grooming, or have him professionally groomed. It would make him look and feel better. I learned how to groom my Aussie by watching KZbin videos! There are a lot of good ones out there that are very helpful.

Great Video for shampooing Aussies; however I might suggest picking your pup up with what I call the forklift method. Place both your arms straight out under their chest/tummy; lift up and hold them tight to your body with your hands & arms, that's what they do at the Vet - works great!

My Aussie doesn't dry that fast. It takes about 15 min. to air dry or 10 min with a microfiber towel. Maybe it's the humidity of where you live?

I made Max (my Aussie) watch this video so he can do himself. And Chelsea - you are quite reminiscent of Diane Lane, one of my favorite actresses (I am not sure if Max has a favorite). Next assignment is to make Max watch some dog-catching-frisbee videos, since at the dog park he is a slug.
@MyAussieBlogVideos10 жыл бұрын
Trooper is a slug too. The one thing I can get him to do (for exercise) is to chase me. But that requires that I be in the mood for exercise too. Thanks for the Diane Lane compliment!

My boyfriend and I are looking into getting either a BC or an Aussie, Do they seem to do well with cats? I know it differs for different dogs and personalities, but we have 2 cats and would want preferably a rescue pup
@MyAussieBlogVideos11 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say - both breeds are herders so they tend to try and "manage" everybody in the household. Both Sydney and Trooper grew up with cats and it worked out alright. Sometimes Trooper would be too aggressive when chasing my old cat out of wherever he wanted to go, but that was the most serious issue. Can you foster a rescue BC or aussie before adopting and test them out with your cats? Rescue websites will usually remark on the dog's experience level with other types of pets. I'm not sure where you're hoping to rescue from but aussierescue.org/ is great. Good luck!

what happens if u don't have a shower nosel that doesn't come off do I use a cup to wash them
@MyAussieBlogVideos10 жыл бұрын
Yes, a cup works just fine. It isn't quite as easy (especially if your dog has thick hair or is sporting his winter coat) but it will get the job done.

How often do you wash them?
@MyAussieBlogVideos11 жыл бұрын
Usually once a month; more if they get muddy or if it's shedding season (the bath helps loosen the hair and then it all brushes out) Thanks for watching!

My dog hates baths and will run away just from the sound of the word itself. Which is funny because he's soooo happy when he gets out. He tries to back himself against a wall and he looks like we're killing him. Praise does nothing XD For being an aussie his coat isn't as thick as others. His "butt-fluff" can get bad at times but it feels like washing people hair! My black lab mix on the other hand has the dense thick undercoat even though his top coats says other wise. He basically has the top coat of a black lab and the undercoat of a border collie. Because he has hip dysplasia giving him baths is hard. We learned as well that washing from back to front is the best. (:
