This book changed my life. I know that sounds dramatic but it's true.
I first saw Dan Harris when he was interviewed on: Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things. That lead me to buy his book. The 10 practices I talk about in this video are things I still practice today and have made me far more than 10% happier!
You can find the book in book stores or on line here: 10% Happier 10th Anniversary: How I TamThised the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works--A True Story Paperback - by Dan Harris amzn.to/4grscal

My biggest thing is thinking I'm not doing enough. Or not doing what other people expect of me. I know my limitations and I need to try and learn that I do what I can, and I have to stop feeling guilty about what I don't do. Its so hard!!!

A: Spot on kiddo! I've seen Dan Harris and heard some of his interviews, but never took his concepts and thoughts and attempted to incorporate them into my life. I 'm so glad you shared your overview of his book and also shared some of your insight and experiences from your own life. Putting it out there takes courage. I speak from first hand knowledge. My past taught me to bury stress; as well as the good, the positive, as well as the accomplishments I had made in my own life. I"m beginning to realize I have been a walking and talking "shit pile" of stress. It took diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and stage 3 non -alcoholic liver disease (NASH) to get my attention. I can now see that burying and coping robbed me not only of my physical but also my emotional health. Well, that was then and not now. I just put myself on my local library's wait list for the audio version of the book. Again thanks so much for today's topic. 10 minutes........what do I have to lose?

I read this book a few months ago & encouraged my circle of friends to read it as well. I just recently read a book entitled The Well Lived Life by Dr Gladys McGarey. It was based on her very full rich & strong life & was written by her at the age of 102! She still has a 5 year plan for her life! Anyway, once again Adelina you have found a way to reach out and encourage certainly myself but I’m sure many others to strive and search for the balance and beauty that our lives can be filled with if we just take the time to stop the fear and move with conviction to resolve whatever is necessary for us to attain peace. You might have drawn me in initially because of my dream to live fulltime in my own tiny home but you retain my interest with your common sense solutions, strength, smarts & compassion. Oh, and some great recipes too of course! Thank you. Have a wonderful week!😊

Thanks for this Adelina. I remember seeing Dan Harris on a daily talk show years ago. I started 5 min relaxation breathing as my meditation and found that to be very helpful . I sometimes practice it again in stressful situations for only a minute and again, amazingly it does calm me . Also, saying no has always been hard for me but I’m learning that if I think about it as a way to not let others walk all over me it becomes easier. Happy Sunday Adelina!😊

You are right about bad things happen in our lives and we don’t forget them but these events shouldn’t rule our lives. My life so far has been a real rollercoaster and I have had to learn how to let go of certain things. Looking forward to reading the book. 😊

I'm a 79 yr old woman whose monkey mind goes in overdrive when I read the morning news but feel the need to stay aware of our world's status so I practice present moment awareness of my surroundings frequently during the day . Loved this!! So much wisdom (yours and Dan''s). I will listen to this again and again - thank you. I also find Tara Brach full of wisdom - she is a Buddhist teacher and wise woman and you don't have to be a Buddhist to appreciate her talks - given freely, once weekly, you can access them on line. It's a very challenging world we are living in and I'll take all the help I can get to maintain my equilibrium!

Thanks Adelina, this was great. I took a similar journey after reading a great book in the 1990s. I realised I actually had control & I could decide how I responded to things. The empowerment while fighting low self esteem was amazing. Laughed at the Virgo reference, I’m one too, mine wasn’t so much perfection but analysing everything…! 🙀 I’ve let a lot of that go, it takes up too much precious time & energy. Thanks again, best wishes to you & Sophie 😺

Letting things go is hard but necessary to maintain good health, and so glad you were able to take away from this book. Meditation is the practice of Letting Go: "Thoughts come, thoughts go (let them go)" The practice of calming down the mind that wants to distract, go somewhere, but gently (without judging) we bring mind back to the Breath (or whatever is the anchor your chose to bring mind back to present moment awareness). Keep practicing! ;-)

I love it! I'm looking for a new gratitude journal and book to read for inspiration and a reminder of how we can take steps to be a better version of ourselves. I think we can all do little things to improving the quality of our lives, is what brings joy and makes us happy and filled with contentment on a very unique and authentic level. When we all have racing thoughts, being our own worst critics, it is a 'Godsend to be exposed to another viewpoint and approach to living, learning a peaceful and less stressful lifestyle. Finding a new found passion also helps to create focus in your life that is authentic to yourself. I love creating art, photography and design. Coloring in my favorite Mandela book is very uplifting and cathartic. Meditation is definately beneficial and I have different ways to create a meditative state through favorite relaxing music and walking in nature are my favorite ways of grounding and balancing my energies. I think when some of us stuff things inside and don't learn to decompress, it can bring on frustration and temper fluctuations shall we call them. I totally get what you are saying. It is a process and being kind and thinking of others or focus on something other than your life challenges, is rewarding, as long as we are not being taken advantage of, or giving to unhealthy situations. Very powerful and life-changing! Thank you for sharing.😊❤

Sometimes you have to remind yourself that it's ok to do the best you can. Even if you don't do a good job. Like when you were first single, you were learning how to manage things. Like new skills, maybe your husband paid the bills. So now you have to learn how to do those things. You will learn by doing or try different things,to see what works. Over time you will get to the point where you could go on vacation. If you want. Sometimes I remind myself that I can only control myself. Like at work or in your life. I have done things that are nice because I like the good feeling that I got from it. I have gotten strange looks from people at work because why would I do this. I like to watch this cleaning channel. I guy says if you have a messy room, just clean a three foot section. At a time, that might motivate you to do more. In life take little bites and go from there.😊❤
