Looked like a whole lot of fun getting in the woods and splitting some firewood. A great sense of accomplishment. Keep on tractoring!

Clever way you sheltered your IBC totes... That certainly is some nice looking wood.

Yes sir, that's a big cherry tree. Judging by the size of the tree, it looks to be a Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), largest of the native Cherry trees. Common in the Midwest and on the East Coast. (I'm not a tree expert, but I did take several tree classes while in college, I still remember a little bit). I like your mobile firewood processing system, the tool rack definitely comes in handy, makes your tractor even more versatile. Great video. Take Care!

glad to see Erma, getting her winter coat. yes wood is quite a chore that you have to keep up or it piles up quickly. you're doing great.

Thank you. Yes she’s ready for winter!

Cool video, thanks for sharing! Cannot confirm the species of tree. Won't argue about it being cherry, but I wonder if it could possibly be ash... Whatever the species, it should give you lots of heat. :) If I may make a suggestion, cut until the limb is about 4" in diameter before scrapping the rest. I agree that it would be challenging to split, but once you get it below a certain diameter, it should burn well enough in the round, provided it will cure okay--don't know how it would cure in NJ. (This is coming from my perspective of living in dry southern Saskatchewan, where firewood is less plentiful, and we need to economize to the max...) Thanks again for the video, and I look forward to seeing YOU next time!

Thank you much! Yes some others have also recommended burning those smaller rounds. Wood is wood I guess! Cheers!

That's great. Cherry dries pretty quick. If in the sun, maybe as few as 3 months, it's ready for the stove. Great video

The wild cherry trees here in NC burn hot 🔥. I can usually find more than I want for my uses. I just started using the IBC cages for my wood, and it's a work saver.

Nice title! Looks like cherry to me - I’ve kept warm from many cherry trees over the years. Cherry is a medium energy density wood. Better than red maple, but a far cry from oak. I find it dries relatively quickly when exposed to sun/wind. I cut a tree in early June and left the rounds on top of a rock pile in the sun all summer. I’m splitting them now and it’s about ready to go. Won’t be using it for at least another year though! I saved the bottom 12’ log of that tree and will try my hand at chainsaw milling it soon!

Yeah I’ll save it for next year!

The cherry we have over here may be different to yours, it does look different. We store it for at least a year, ideally two. Our cherry burns great but does produce a lot of ash. It is worth investing in a mositure meter if you do not have one
@MyClutteredGarageАй бұрын
Thank you, Joseph! I do have moisture meter. I have not checked this moisture content yet.

just curious... have you ever tried splitting the bigger pieces with the splitter oriented vertically? I find it easier, but I regularly split large pieces that I wouldn't want to try to lift. The heaviest thing I lift at one time is the piece I split off 😊
@MyClutteredGarageАй бұрын
I have. Sometimes I’m too lazy to stand up the splitter. And sometimes I forget that it can do that. 🤣

I save all wood to burn that’s 3 inches or bigger. It’s nice to throw a log in you didn’t have to split.
