IU's voice sounds majestic and their acting felt so real. Glad that IU asked Tae to shoot the MV with her. They have been close friends for years. They filmed this 1 week before Tae's military enlistment. Tae was also shooting his Compose Coffee commercial during this time. Because when one of his close friend, Park Seojoon (actor) and Producer Na (from Jinny's Kitchen, one of Taehyung’s show) visited him on the set of his Compose Coffee commercial shooting, Tae said that after the shoot he will go directly somewhere to film another one. Both of them are well respected in South Korea for being true to their craft and their kind personalities. These two were given National Titles by the Korean Media and netizens. IU "Nation's Sweetheart" and Tae "Nation's Treasure". Can't wait to see them acting together in a series. Thank you for reacting to IU's song. You guys need to watch the behind the scenes for this mv, it answers a lot. There are 2 video’s one by IU and one by bangtantv. Both give you information. Also IU and V are good friends and been friends for years. Her interview of V on palette was so good and their duet on it is one of the best. They have chemistry and a sibling vibe in their friendship. Tae also explained why he did this mv and IU told us how she selected V.

The cube is meant to represent society and how badly it treat anyone who is "different". In the MV IU is deaf while Tae is blind in one eye but since they love each other they don't see those flaws. When we see them through the camera's lens it shows how they see each other - beautiful, perfect and the world is full of life and color because they have that love. Even in the darkest moments having that one person by your side can make it bearable. The ending killed me when IU covers his one good eye and her angelic voice along with the storytelling makes this a real masterpiece and I want to see them in a kdrama together.

Since they filmed this like a mini movie I hope they are thinking to do that as I would hate to see all this amazing work go to waste. Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think IU said she wrote it for her fans. I think it is a sweet commentary of their parasocial relationship. My interpretation is IU is IU and V is Uaena (her fans). The cubes are trolls/ media. In the MV, she is deaf/mute, he is partially blind - it may seem there is no fathomable way these two can understand each other. However, whether separated by language (she cannot hear/speak) or distance (he cannot see), they communicate about sweet memories (about macroons and taking pictures) and laugh much like inside jokes between IU and her fans or photos at fanmeetings. They both have scars of criticism or scandals over the years. At its end the trolls/ media come to consume another artist and fandom and discard it like a pile of clothes and IU is ready to fight but V (the fans) steps in front of her to defend her and their bond, but they are met with a bitter end. A sad reality every artist must face someday. She sheilds V's good eye to protect him from the inevitable. I think she understands the way it is but is happy to set out on the journey with her fans anyway. I think of her lyric "Will you courageously set with me? Destroy me slowly and chilly, ruiner"; OR this is just about her and her boyfriend, and her asking for some privacy, not sure haha.😭😭😭😭

This is about discrimination. He's blind in one eye and she is mute or deaf or both. The greyed world and the cubes represents the way society discrimates against the disabled in this case but basically against anything our society deems abnormal or lesser. Their love represented by the camcorder filters out all the ugliness and bad and allow them to live in the perfect world their love created..At the end, even though they were supposedly vaporized, however, through the view of the camcorder (their love for each other), you see them rise up and finally get to be free...

It's totally okay not to be okay after this. It was DEVASTATING. I have seen a couple of reactors who did not cry and I am staying clear of their channels from now on. Monsters don't cry or have emotions. Everybody else, who I would like to hang out with and hear their thoughts, would be people capable of feeling emotions. Art is SUPPOSED to make us feel. This was top-notch. If it is not nominated for Song Of The Year or Music Video Of The Year then we will all know the system is rigged. IU is a legend. My opinion based on the directors comments and the behind the scenes video. In the MV, she is mute, and he is blind in one eye. They’re trying to survive in a dystopian world where society represented by “cubes” are eliminating anyone with a disability or otherwise marginalized. The cube (named Nemo by the director) is odd until you realize it’s a representation of society’s need to put everything in a box, everything needs to be perfect (like a cube) to be acceptable. (This could also align with what you and Erin were discussing regarding the pressure on these two as artists). Through the camera lens, life is good but in reality oppression, criticism and judgment prevails as represented by the figures in black. In the final scene, the camera lens shows the couple being lifted out of the oppression but in reality, society (the cube) has disintegrated them leaving their clothing behind. I am obsessed with this song! And the directing/production/acting in this mv is top tier!

I'm just copy pasting an explaination I saw under another video: The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

Here's everything you missed: 1) IU is deaf/mute and V is blind in one eye. IU uses sign language throughout the MV 2) The cube (the director said it is called "nemo") represents the society which discriminates against people having disabilities or those who are simply different (often considered as misfits) thus eliminating them. (the pile of clothes: The pile of clothes also reminds you of BTS "Spring day"MV which also features it 3) The camrecorder shows how the world would have been if the society didn't discriminate against them. 4) The scene where they are at the restaurant and the scene where she is on stage singing in her wedding dress, you can see how the people around covered in black are all pointing their fingers at Tae and IU (represents how harshly the world judges them especially in their happy moments) 5) The whole mv was mainly shown from the pov of IU. You can see how she always put herself in the danger first and tries to protect Tae, how tenderly she loved him, her touches were so gentle as she saw his normal eye through the cam. But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. This is true love. 6) IU taps three times on Tae's shoulder during the scene where he grabs her hand tightly. The three taps translates to "I love you" in sign language.
