This reminded me of Petra's and Måns' opening act in 2016 "What is Eurovision?" when they sang: "Where else can you hear Romansh and Luxembourgish sung? We've had two songs with sign language and three in made-up tongue And Antillean Creole, Norwegian, Võro, Viennese, Neopolitan, Catalan, Udmurt, Montenegrin and Maltese. Ancient Greek, Albanian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Romani, Russian, Romanian,Crimean, Slovenian, Hebrew, Armenian, Arabic and Lithuanian, Portuguese, Macedonian, Breton, Estonian, Pontic, Icelandic, Croatian, Bulgarian, Georgian, Italian, Bosnian, Latvian, Corsican, Serbian, German, Hungarian, Polish and English, and Irish and Finnish and Swedish and Spanish and Dutch, Samogitian and Turkish and Danish and French, Tahitian, though not very much! And though I don't know Czech, Swahili, Azeri or Greek, music is a language that we all know how to speak"

Well, the winner was obv. xD I certainly want to hear German again in Eurovision. :) (I sometimes wondered as a fan of their music why big names in the country like Tim Bendzko (who was a judge in 2017) don't want to participate? He strictly sings in German and I doubt it would just change if he ever went to Eurovision)
@jlhabitan506 жыл бұрын
IceCranberry Perhaps he wasn't invited to take part in Unser Song or have yet to submit a song if he's songwriter.
@icecranberry21486 жыл бұрын
He is a singer-songwriter and because he was in the jury last year, I kinda expected to see him there one day or maybe even as an internal selection. Maybe it's not in his interest either, he usually has quite a few concerts all around Germany and if you are in Eurovision, you kinda have to dedicate all those months up to the contest to it (pre-parties and such, promotion). Maybe one day :) (Or any other quite popular German singer) Btw, I am NOT saying Michael and others are not popular, they all have fans.

Italy has always sent songs in italian (maybe just few lines in english, sometimes), but they are only 4th 'cause they refused many times to partecipate (even if they are in the big 5, probably because italian don't care about eurovision, they prefer their own festival sanremo). Btw I really love italian songs and sanremo!

As somone said, Netherlands may have sung many times in dutch but in the last 10 years at least they haven't sent a dutch song ! Come on, dutch is beautiful ! I also want to highlight that the number is not really fair since countries' debut depends on the years, for example Portugal just entered in 1964 compared to France or Italy in 1956. We should set it in proportion of participation !

Robin Gibcus why though, I don’t understand why people want everyone to sing in their own language it just seems silly, just let countries produce the music they want to produce. I am German and their are like 3 songs in German in the charts all others are English, so why would we send a German song if no one would listen to is! Its stupid
@MrRobin10026 жыл бұрын
Willow Harpy It’s not stupid at all. It would make the contest so boring if we kept sending generic english pop songs to esc. For example, hvala ne sounds really good in slovenian but if they would translate it to english the lyrics would be so awkward.
@thenewsunshine3476 жыл бұрын
Robin Gibcus yeah and that’s why you don’t directly translate songs into English....and Eurovision is a contest where you send songs that represent your country not your culture let countries send whatever song they want🙄 also you say boring? Do you really think the contest will ever be boring...no

But it would make it harder for artists from most countries to win the contest and be commercially successful. Don't forget how Ireland won four times within five years too, which was getting ridiculous. We have to accept that the language rule was dropped for a reason.

@KevinAustin96 жыл бұрын
jiakommo You can not correct someone on something which is controversial. People have different opinion on the n Macedonian language in Greece and Bulgaria but the Wikipedia page says "Macedonian (/ˌmæsɪˈdoʊniən/; македонски, tr. makedonski, pronounced [maˈkɛdɔnski ˈjazik]) is a South Slavic language spoken as a first language by around two million people, principally in the Republic of Macedonia and the Macedonian diaspora, with a smaller number of speakers throughout the transnational region of Macedonia. It is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia and a recognized minority language in parts of Albania, Romania and Serbia." The author of the video made no mistake to be corrected.

Can we start calling out Denmark for never sending songs in Danish, the same way y'all are trying to get us Swedes to send a song in Swedish? Like, I say this as a native Swedish speaker, but do you guys know how singing in Swedish sounds? Do you remember? It ain't pretty, in my opinion.
