Thank you very much! I used to strive for almost photorealism in watercolor and was always disappointed. My attitude change when my teacher told me that the beauty of watercolor lies in the imperfections the pigments create. It changed my view completely.

Greetings! I was doing a little KZbin research on a stunning, innovative painter whose name i had never even heard and now here I am in your lovely channel. I literally read the name Klimt for the first time about 20 minutes ago when I was compelled to look up the intro sequence for an anime series I enjoyed as a kid and discovered whose work the uncharacteristically western paintings were inspired by. The series is called Elfen Lied and is not family friendly by any means but they really thought outside the box for the opening credits: the supernatural characters from the story are imposed in classic anime style directly into some of Klimt's most famous and evocative paintings, while the score is a truly moving operatic piece called Lilium. I'm sure there are many who were put off by it at the time, probably 20 to 30 years ago by now, and might've accused the creators of distastefully borrowing from a beloved European artist, but thanks to your lovely intro, I now know that his iconic style was originally inspired in part by Japanese art! God I miss learning things. I'll definitely be around for more nuggets of wisdom and good vibes!

Hi Frankie!! That’s cool! I didn’t know about Ellen Lied, but their opening credits are definitely interesting and aesthetically stunning! And yes: Gustav Klimt was definitely part of the “Japonisme” movement, of European artists influenced by the patterns and colors of Japanese art. So, looks like the anime went full circle? 😋
@TGIFrank Жыл бұрын
@@mygeekfamilycotton indeed! I watched it a few more times and confirmed that the singer is performing in Latin. So, a modern Japanese animated series with an intro that pays homage to a Bohemian painter who was himself inspired by traditional Japanese paints and prints, all to the tune of what sounds like a Roman Catholic hymn of anguish in the original tongue. Sounds about right for a series about genetic mutant elf sisters that dismember each other with psychic ghost arms.

Awesome, as usual! There are so many painters you’ll be busy for some time (I hope). Interestingly, just recently (at my office) we were just talking about Norman Rockwell, an American artist whose paintings centered on American culture (mostly of the first half of the 20th century), with several depicting people in medical based offices. Maybe you will consider adding him to your video queue.

Thanks! I do love Norman Rockwell! I visited an exhibition of his works some 25 years ago in Japan (of all places!) and still have vivid memories of it. Will bump him a few notches up in the pile! Cheers

I dont understand the materials used in the underpainting. Is that watercolor? What is the golden paint? And the patterns are painted in achrylics or in gouache? Could you list the materials used? Thanks
@mygeekfamilycotton Жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, the underpainting is done in watercolor (as are the flesh tones), the gold is acrylic paints, and the colourful patterns in gouache. Hope this helps!

Hi. Thank you for sharing your talent. I would like to know how you transfer the image from the picture to become a sketch in the canvas (4:35).It is not very clear to me. Thanks.
@mygeekfamilycotton Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! There are several techniques to report a sketch/picture (can do a grid, a backlight if your paper is not too thick, etc…), but in this precise case, it looks like I simply used carbon paper. If you don’t have, you can blacken the back of your picture/sketch with a charcoal/pencil! Hope this helps!

Hi Christie! Thanks a lot! Samuel Palmer will not be easy, but… I’ll see what I can do! And, for the masking tape, I bought it in Daiso, the Japanese equivalent of the Dollar Store… these stores usually have plenty of small things we can use for painting/arts/crafts, so… 😋 cheers!
