Father and Daughter reunited on The Today Show thanks to MyHeritage DNA

Sarah, from Fort Wayne, Indiana (now living in the Netherlands) was placed in adoptive care as a young child by her mother. To try and find her biological family, she took a MyHeritage DNA test that her husband purchased for her. She was shocked when she got a match to her biological father, Arland, who didn't even know she existed.
Sarah and Arland then spoke on the phone numerous times, but today was the first time they met.

Have you done any research? Taken a DNA test? Called the hospital at which you were born? Looked at your birth certificate? Asked your siblings about any comments they might have heard from anyone about your father? Someone in your mother’s generation had to have known. If not, one of their children might have been told by one of their parents, etc. Sometimes a DNA private investigator can help speed things up. Just some ideas! Praying you discover what you seek. 🙏🏼

My daughter met her biological father yesterday. She picked him up at the airport in Ok. I encouraged her to find her birth family for many reasons one being I am not threatened by her being enriched by others. Those kids are gorgeous!!!!

I found my father after 37 years, two days ago and we've been talking and he said that he loves me which is crazy but I haven't seen him so far, he lives in south America but my finances are not the best so I have to wait to meet him, I am anxious thou, lol.

I was contacted by my 34 yearold daughter in 2014, I had never had children. Until it happens one cannot understand the extreme feelings and millions of thoughts flying through your mind. It took me 3-4 months to calm my emotions. I write and record music and immediately wrote and recorded a song about it. It's the way I have to express my deepest feelings and pressure relief. "Nancy" is the title.

This is so much like my own story of finding my birth family !! Except I'm 61 and found my birth Father last year ! He just turned 87 ! Unfortunately my Birth Mother has passed, but I am blessed to be a part of a huge family in her side. My Grandmother was one of 15... So you do the math on 1st and second cousins !! Lol ! I also have 8 half siblings between Mother and Father's side's. Now the hole in my heart is full and over flowing !! Constant visits and calls now !! Bless you all !!

I love these successful adoption stories. I was adopted and always knew. My parents promised me if I ever wanted to find my birth parents they would help but I never wanted to. I did, however, meet my biological brother when we were in our teens.

As an adopted adult, I really appreciate the kind comments! So often adoptees are shamed and told we are ungrateful for seeking out one's biological family. It's very painful to be told how selfish and awful it is to try and find them because it is seen as being ungrateful to the adopted parents. Like, "she already has parents" or "something is wrong with her" etc. I've seen plenty of those comments. Everyone is so supportive and kind and it is really heartwarming.

I can relate. Found my dad in my later 20s. This was before DNA testing but I used phone books and reverse directories to locate neighbors of my dad. Took very little time once I got started. Met him in one day (he was pretty local). I do still get mad that I was cheated out of time with him and my siblings. But all parents and step-parents are now deceased and I am accumulating cousins from DNA testing including from a grandparent line that had also been an out of wedlock event.

Well...I'll admit to bursting into tears as the details unfolded into such a beautifully loving story...My only child was adopted from overseas (twenty-six years ago) when he was a young toddler, & these "reunion" shows touch my heart in a VERY special way...I can only imagine how Sarah & Arland felt when they realized how much they resemble one another...The "icing on the already delicious cake"... I hope I don't jinx things but.....this is the first video I've seen on KZbin that has no negative comments. There is a God!! My brother & I were very fortunate that our parents were married nearly 50 years, until death did part them. I fear we may be among the last children raised in the US to be so fortunate. If you are dealing with a situation that's anything like the subject of the above video I wish you the very best of luck with your efforts to sort things out. I pray you find what you seek & I ask you to share with as many as you find comfortable the negative things you have to deal with. Hopefully people will get it through their heads that every decision we make has a consequence. Sometimes those consequences are forced onto someone who had nothing to do with the decision.

It’s unforgivable when a father isn’t notified about a pregnancy. On a positive note, at least there’s a better chance of building a loving relationship if they find each other. There was no abandonment and he didn’t run from responsibility.
