Yeah I concede that Donkey Kong Country on the SNES wasn't all about the graphics. It was about a barrel. Then a barrel and a wasp. Then a barrel that moves, and a wasp. And then, wait for it, a barrel and two wasps, two wasps that move! Ooh the inventiveness, the variety, the sheer ingenuity of it all... I was a kid when they came out and I loved them. But even then I knew that Yoshi's Island had more to it than all three put together.

@Microwave4144 жыл бұрын
Alright let me update on that, after adding/modding xeno crisis to my genesis mini AND having a real copy of the game to play on my very real genesis not-so-mini model 2 I can hear the slight delay in the mini but only in the options menu and I'm pretty sure that has to do with the emulator than the hardware itself. I find running the other genesis emulator that you can access via project lunar 1.0.5 seems to get rid of any issues with the audio delay... though you do loose the cool in-game UI that M2 created for just retroarch, which I don't hate retroarch but feels out of place on the mini.

Glad to see Yooka-Laylee getting some love. I actually cheered at "Give me Arkham Asylum, not Arkham City!" Asylum was such a tight, curated, and amazing experience. In broadening its scope, City lost a lot of the magic and focus. Spider-Man was great. The more I hear about Death Stranding, the more I'm glad I skipped it. Oh man, Dragon Quest XI! I've bought it, I just haven't started it yet. Need to buy River City Girls. It looks fantastic! Ninja Saviours is interesting but I need a price drop before I bite. Me and my kids have had a ton of fun with Super Mario Maker 2! The story mode provided a lot of high quality first party levels. The user made levels have been surprisingly innovative! The Resident Evil 2 reimagining was fantastic! Very strong personal game of the year candidate!
@duffman184 жыл бұрын
You should give Death Stranding a go. Have an open mind about it. When so many games these days are just the same tired concepts, when something like this invents an entirely new genre as Death Stranding is, it shouldn't be disregarded. Or maybe you just wanna play only the new Call of Duty or whatever. But watch Super Bunnyhop's video about the game: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWmZnqCsj7dgqas It makes the very act of walking and hiking into an incredibly deep and complex experience and you get so much out of it. In a way you could compare it to Mario 64, where Miyamoto and the team spent a huge amount of time simply developing the controls before they ever began designing levels, because they wanted to make the simple act of running and jumping into a hugely rewarding experience. And Death Stranding is much the same. Even if you never want to play it, watch that video on it by Super Bunnyhop to help you understand why so many people love it and think it's groundbreaking. It's one of those games that for many changes the way they think about game design at a fundamental level, like something like LISA also did

I did hear from Ryu ga Gotoku / Yakuza fan regulars such as Jimmyqballs & Devilleon7 that if 100% completion is your thing, there could be a trap or two in "the grind" that could sabotage the endeavour (I suspect that they may still be within the game). But if that doesn't prove a concern, there's a lot to love about Hokuto ga Gotoku (Like a North Star) / Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise. It can best be described as a "Ryu ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon) / Yakuza spin-off, but instead of spinning off into the samurai eras, they chose to do some Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) crossing over" (Infact, the game's reveal probably provides all the context you could need, even if you can't understand Japanese: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4HKioyFhMqBrMU, with this fan-translated trailer containing a bit more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmiwoop7ZrCCgbs). I've still yet to fetch a PlayStation 4 to play my copy or see a PC port to Steam beforehand, but from what I've spectated or listened to (I'm so sad no official soundtrack has been released, as 'Receive You ~North Star~' is a hell of a theme and the final boss theme may well be among the greatest ones I've heard in the last few years), it's got a right good time to offer! The international Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise release does come with violence uncensored (I think you can still re-enable the original's reduced blood particles & blackened bodies, which actually unsettles me more in a "You killed that bad guy so thoroughly, you erased their very biological identity" way) along with an English dub or the "You Are Already Dead" option and it was received positively, but if the homeland voice acting or the "Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru" option takes your fancy, the cast largely if not entirely consists of Ryu ga Gotoku / Yakuza voice actors in perhaps a "Spot which Ryu ga Gotoku character is playing this Hokuto ga Gotoku character" and it is a treat to hear the results (It may still even be possible to fetch the Kazuma Kiryu bonus/DLC character model for the game, but I'm not entirely sure).

It is very wrong to compare Horizon Chase Turbo to Out Run. If ou expect to find something similar to the Sega game, you won't find. The valid comparison here is Top Gear for the SNES. I guess it's not very famous in the US but it absolutely loved in Brazil, where Horizon Chase Turbo was developed, that's why it was heavily inspired by Kemco's classic game. They even brought the same composer for the OSat, that's why the music feels very nostalgic for those who played Top Gear a lot.

I might be crazy or have bad taste, but I actually bought Ape Escape the very day it came out way back in the day for the PS1 just off the hype alone, and I honestly couldn't get into it. Perhaps I should try it again today to see if I like it now, but I just didn't like it for some reason back then. Perhaps I was expecting something more like Mario 64 which I was INFATUATED with back then. It was the ONE thing my PS1 didn't have that I wanted SO badly! I did eventually buy an N64 just for Mario 64, and to be honest it's the ONLY game even worth playing on the N64 imo. It's the only game I ever play on my N64 and probably the only one I will ever play, and yes, I have played most of the N64 library at some point. The library of games for it just isn't very good in general.

Lol I am honestly SO excited to play thru the Resident Evil 2 Remake, but am waiting til I get my new Samsung 4KTV set up to do so. Just got myself a PS4 Pro as well to enjoy the new 4K experience. The original had one of the most frightening experiences I've ever had in a game, and that was the long quiet hallway where the mutant Dogs jump thru the windows at you. It scared the HELL out of me the first time I played thru the game back in the day!

As an avid Horizon Chase Turbo fan, it's actually more similar to the SNES game Top Gear and not Outrun. Heck, Aquiris even brought back the OST composer of Top Gear, Barry Leitch, to do the OST for Horizon Chase Turbo. It even features a reprise of one of the themes from Top Gear!

SO.... I dunno if you can talk about it here, but I would VERY much like to know how you got Pier Solar to be playable from a single CD file.... I have not found such a thing online myself bout would LOVE to have that. And yes, I actually own the original Cartridge release of the game. Paid a pretty penny for it too.

Oh damn, you reminded me of Mark and CGR... whatever happened to that? I still remember his intro music.

I'm 100% with you with the open-world fatigue, I much prefer something along the lines of older Metal Gear Solid's, Legend of Zelda's, From Software games, etc. that feel like they are an open environment to explore but have a more focused sense of progression and more handcrafted encounters.

River City Girls and Resident Evil 2 HD were the biggest disappointments last year. However XenoCrisis and Ninja Warriors Once Again really delivered. And thats where my money went.

Quality content as always guys! My favourite in 2019 would either be The ninja saviors, or possibly RE2. Roll on RE3 this year!
Horizon Chase isn't like Outrun, it's inspired by Top Gear for the Super Nintendo (The greatest sprite scaling racing game outside of arcades).

yeah the resi remakes were ok in my opinion though gameplay seemed very outdated and cumbersome athmospherically and graphically theyé a feast for the eyes and ears though. back then we didn´t know better and stomached it´s rather idiosynchratic design choices. that weren´t really out of complete artistic freedom back in the day but rather because of time and monetary constraints. the real modern resident evil is evil witrhin imo no modern resident evil comes close shinji mikami just never disappoints but i do seem to be pretty much alone with that opinion.
