Great job on the video as usual. I have most of the EDs, but as far as the GBA is concerned I have to admit I much prefer the EZ-Flash Omega. I have been using an EZ-Flash II Powerstar 1Gb cart since 2004, and recently dug it out of storage and it still works perfectly! Even the SRAM battery, which I was afraid had gone into a deep discharge actually works. So they make quality products. Anyway, the new Omega is only around $50 and has more features than the $130 E-GB x7. It does save states, and has a better RTC implementation, where as it can keep track of multiple games without a work around. It also doesn't require a battery for saves as they are written directly to the SDcard. But far and away the best feature of the Omega is its form factor. It's the exact size of a standard GBA cart. Not only that, but it comes with a DS Lite Slot 2 shell which you can transfer the Omega PCB into to have it flush with the DS Lite slot. They managed to shrink it down that much! I'm sure Krikzz will take all of this into consideration when making a revised version of the GBA ED. Until then, my money is on the Omega.

I know this original comment is 2 years old... But FYI, 2 years later, Game Boy and Game Boy Color emulation on an EZ Flash Omega is still kinda janky. Original Game Boy games are totally fine and playable, but there's still some jittering and stuttering going on. Just playing Super Mario Land, you can see the background stuttering as you run to the right. Load up Super Mario Land 2, and you'll notice slowdown, especially in the Lego Levels (Mind you the original cart has some slowdown, but it's actually worse through the EZ Flash Omega). Meanwhile, Game Boy Color games, you might as well just forget about. Tried to play Zelda Link's Awakening DX and early on, Link just turned invisible and I couldn't continue. Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel just crashes in level 3. A few games I've tried have been ok, but a majority of them are janky. And to top it all off, saving your game on GBC is weirdly unreliable. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. Sometimes you can get games to save by saving, opening the emulator menu, waiting a good 20 seconds or so, and THEN exiting. But even then sometimes it doesn't work anyway. Saying all that, NES (and if you get a custom firmware, Game Gear and Master System) runs just fine. I dunno why Game Boy and Game Boy Color specifically give the GBA a hard time, when the other 3 consoles emulate fine. But, it is what it is. Your best bet is to ignore the GB/GBC emulation on an Omega, and just buy an EZ Flash Junior. Sure, you're spending another $50 for another flash cart, but the GB/GBC games on a Junior all run natively. Meaning everything works exactly as it would on real carts. ___ Gotta say though, being able to play Game Gear games on my GBA, at full speed and full resolution, is fucking bananas. Like, if you're ok using a custom update for the Omega, the fact that you can play every GBA and Game Gear game is worth the price alone.

Buying all of those Everdrives was certainly expensive but they really are a great value. If I was rich then I'd buy all of the original cartridges instead of using Everdrives. I do still collect the original cartridges for some systems. I'm currently up to 113 NES carts and I plan to buy more in spite of the fact that I have an Everdrive N8. However, I will never spend hundreds of dollars on rare games like Little Samson, Bonk's Adventure (NES), or Panic Restaurant so the Everdrive is a great solution for playing these games on original hardware. I also love the save state feature which is, of course, not possible with original cartridges.

So glad someone brought this up. It's the ROMs that are illegal, not the emulators so anyone suggesting Everdrives as fine but emulation is not then they're gun is pointing at the wrong target. The real issue that drove me to emulation was the scalping. Being further and further priced out of retro games was getting out of hand. Even common or popular games are getting ridiculous, yet no-one batters an eyelid. I guess that's down to the inflating value of collections though, so who's going to complain if they want to sell up now especially if they bought the bulk 20 years ago.

I still remember the days of the late 90s to mid, 00s , learning of the super game axe at a local import shop, getting one, to regret that decision later when I realized connecting nes games to it and playing them was an exercise in sitting still as to not break the connection, shortly after would discover flash cartridges for the gba which were where I got my first taste of nes titles being truly portable thanks to pocket nes. Then came the DS which further increased capabilities having options for a lot of different console emulations using devices such as the super card/m3 perfect/ m3 simply and m3 real. A good friend would later give me a hacked psp he had fixed up (judging by the condition it had been in with the door I assume it had been run over at some point) this was where I saw a small handheld device could perfectly recreate a lot of arcade hardware. Today with devices like the ps vita and 3ds there are a lot of options that give you portable options or even other handheld emulation devices ranging from cheap devices that barely work to pretty capable. That said the everdrives are worth while for these devices for people who demand accuracy without hiccups, but if you aren't that demanding and can deal with not every game running perfectly, the original hardware really only is going to get more expensive, be hard to maintain working and the everdrives while a quality product are an expensive initial investment.

Or before going into an inn, or any othe rmajor load point/ . The major oad point wilusually reload from scratch and will not continue with the messed up sound. This trick works well on anything that saves states and glitches up alot of the time.

This is especially good if you really want to play a game for one of these, but it's not easily available in your country, or too expensive for your budget, or it's overly rare (like Shantae for GBC). Also helpful if you want to play a hack that changes the game a lot, or improves it (like patching a glitch or any problem the original had), or even just translations and homebrews. Definitely cool. I feel like this works both as a convenient way to play all the games you want on original hardware in a practical compact way, or to complement your library, in case you have problems finding certain games or they're too expensive, as I mentioned before. These can even be exclusively used only for hacks, translations and improvements, if you're the type that really only wants to play the games in their original cartridges if possible.

Great track choice when introducing the Game Gear! That Axe Battler track is one of the best chip tunes ever made. Oh, and one thing to note is that the Everdrive GG does NOT properly for Shining Force Sword of Hajya aka the game you showed off in the video, therefore you cannot save your game on it. I have spoken with Krikzz about this and he is not sure why this issue exists and doesn't have any plans to fix it. Just something to be aware of when buying. The fault is that they're in Chinese, but if you make a video, who knows, people might be more interested! Heck, even a video on the GBC bootleg scene would be great, as it's not just Vast Fame who made the good stuff. You got Sintax, BBD, SKOB, other stuff. Yeah, there's still bad, but it's a lot of fun looking through this library. GBC might just be one of my favorite game libraries because of stuff like this.

To give insight on a non-Everdrive cart, the EZ Flash Omega has been doing wonders for me. Real time clock support, super-fast ROM loading, even for 32M ROMs like Mother 3's English patch, native Goomba emulator for easy GB(C) ROM loading, and so forth. It ran me $65 after shipping on RetroModding. The only downside I noticed is that it causes my backlit-modded GBA's power LED to go a bit wonky when running the cart, flickering between green and a dim red whenever it was being used. I think this is due to stuff relating to voltage, but I can't tell if it's an individual case as it could also be caused by the GBA's voltage knob position when the person who modded my system was working on it. If any other EZ Flash Omega owners are out there, can you let me know if you have the same issue? As for a game recommendation, I want to throw out 2 hidden gems: *Metalgun Slinger*: It's a weird run and gun title only released in Japan that also incorporates some combo tech and acrobatics into its gameplay. The language barrier is small so give it a spin. *Summon Night: Swordcraft Story*: a quirky JRPG that has an action battle system rather than anything turn based. The writing is really good and the entire game is just a charming romp.

Fantastic episode. Still need to pick up an Everdrive GG for myself, although I suppose one thing holding me back is not having a modded Game Gear for TV-out. I need to look into that..

Another excellent video, Coury! I love Everdrives, but I don't own any for portable systems. More things to spend all my money on :P

I hope Krikzzz will create more hardware as he did with wireless Mega Drive gamepad. Delivery of my Mega Everdrive X3 took only one day 'cause I live in neighbour region.

Does anyone know where to find the Kid Icarus DX hack? It's not on ROMHacking.net

The only thing I use an Everdrive for is to play rom hacks and custom games. Otherwise, I tend to stick to the original cartridges. I feel as though I become more dedicated and engaged in a game if I have the physical cartridge. That's just my two cents.

Seems like it would be possible to create a little plastic part that would slide in and out of the grooves on the back of a GBA cart to press down the GBC mode button, but it'd be tiny and fragile, and the mechanism inside would take up precious space needed for the PCB. My guess-without having attempted a 3D model mock up-is that it'd be impossible, or at least impractical.
