Amazing. Natural and healthy. Can u let me know for how long it lasts?
Thank you so much for the recipe 😊 I have tried the green colour. But according to the mentioned procedure I got army green/ mehendi colour. I tried again by using very less sugar(1/2-1 spoon) and NO lemon juice and it came out well “leaf green colour”. It did not crystallise because of adding less sugar. It did not have any flavour of Palak even before adding sugar. So, we can use it without sugar and lemon juice too. I hope this will help those who are trying for the first time😊

I practice natural dyes with Pacific NW (US) Plants, lichens and mushrooms and have done a lot of color modification with vinegar and soda ash. Lime also works. Obviously, you don't want to add vinegar, soda ash or washing soda to food, but I'm excited to explore color modification with foods..I so enjoy doing this on wool, silks and also on cellulose fibers like cotton. This is a way to teach chemistry to children that they would LOVE. I highly suggest that teachers learn to teach chemistry this way...it'd be a real hit with high-school aged kids especially...I've done natural dyeing with our Quercus garryana (Oregon White Oak) in classroom settings. The kids get to learn about Garry Oak ecoysystems, traditional uses for acorns, how to harvest and prepare the shells for dyeing pouches and then, best of all, they make acorn cookies by pureeing them and leaching them of bitter tannins. When they've ingested these acorns and are wearing their pouches proudly I know they will think about preserving our local oaks as they now have a personal relationship to them. Bravo on this lovely video!

Many many thanks for this in-depth demo.. I have a couple of questions.. (1) does the colour of frosting become darker and deeper the more colour we add to it? (2) does the colour separate from frosting when it’s been sitting for a while? Just wondering if the colour will leak out. It makes sense to boil the colour with sugar into a syrup so any separation wouldn’t happen. (3) are we able to mix these colours to create a new colour? Thank you so much again. Very excited to try these out.

@medeli74612 жыл бұрын
@@olamideomotayo-akeju6350 Sugar is a major preservative as is lemon juice. Also, she said it keeps IN THE FRIDGE for up to three months, NOT at room temp!. I'd agree with her...I've done a lot of canning of berries and you have to be really careful around natural food preservation, canning and making even these recipes. I was trained to always use sterilized canning jars (boil for a time based on your elevation.) I boil mine for 7 minutes to sterilize) I think that it would be best to start with carefully washed and sterilized jars with these recipes as well to lessen bacterial or fungal contamination.

@medeli74612 жыл бұрын
Yes, 3 months sounds arbitrary. How do you know if these have 'turned bad?' Will they show evidence of mold? Start to smell bad? What will indicate they've 'gone bad?' Food safety is very important to me...so I wonder how long can the frosting be left out and still not harbor any dangerous bacteria? A few hours? A day? Overnight? A couple of days?
