My car is reaching a point in it's life (24 y/o, 330k km golf cabriolet) where I have to work on it every year to pass Austrias version of the MOT - but that's fine, cause I really, really like it (as shown by its mileage😂)

This is about one man's belief and one man's passion to take a something that should have been looked after and treated better and bring it back to its former glory. Mate, you did a bang up job on this car. You started this with very little knowledge on how to fix most of the faults, but just learned as you went. I can say with a fair amount of confidence, most of us would eventually have went "Sod it! not worth the effort." and quit halfway through. You didn't and it shows in the, close to, final results. That MOT will be a good indicator of a "final score" for the project.

Congratulations Vince. Your PO box is in Watford: I have a story for you... As you follow the Watford Rd direction St Albans you pass Chiswell Green, best known for the Royal National rose garden. Towards the beginning of Stanley Avenue, which runs parallel, lived a Mr Jennings who had moved there to retire. He chatted with my mother and we made a slip through the fence for her to help him out with his fruit trees. People have stories and his was that he was present with Mr Royce when Mr Rolls walked in. My mum found this brilliant and the local paper came. Hearts Advertiser or St Albans Review. When I was at Uni he had his 100th birthday and Rolls Royce sent down a car, possible like yours, to go with is smiling card from the Queen and more local newspaper attention. As a kid we'd pop through the fence to say hello and my eyes didn't pass his kitchen top. He gave me lessons in life and I can't remember them. No different from you though. Interested and capable with a modesty and momentum. He once said he'd give me his old camera, but I got better than that, I got memories. I think Mr Jennings would have liked the fact that you didn't cut corners - redoing the seats, painting the pinstripe, layers and layers of paint and buff by hand.

Congratulations on your Rolls. The great news here is that you have earned that feeling of gratitude of the work you've done. You have sweat equity in that and you learned so much. The car is indeed a one off because you brought it back to life - you gave it a second life. No longer is it an eyesore. It is a vehicle that has a story that you wrote with your effort. Drive that with pride. You've earned this feeling, my friend. Nothing is better than taking something broken and bringing it back to life to be appreciated once again!

Fantastic series. Fixing the Spirit of Ecstasy was a definite requirement to pass an MOT, because kids like me in the '80s used to grab them purely to see them suck down into the grille. If it didn't then it would murder pedestrians in accidents just by being a huge spike. I do believe all the amazing work will pass this Silver Spirit with the MOT, but I would like to see a showdown of the MOT tester and Vince with Morricone's "Ecstasy of Gold" playing.

Im an old car guy (64) from the US and I have to say your hard work and determination has really paid off, you saved this old girl from the parts bin and really did a fine job considering it was a driveway project with all the limitations that can impose. I hope you get many happy miles from her, im sure she appreciates all the love and attention youve shown her. This series on your Rolls really takes me back to my early youth in the late seventies early eighties when a friend of mines dad bought a massive black 63 Cadillac Fleetwood with a blown engine for fifty dollars but the body and interior were in good shape - my friends dad gave it to us as our first learning project as we loved cars. His father found a replacement engine and transmission and we installed it in a weekend so we had it running pretty quick. Much like you we wanted all the power accessories working so I had to repair wiring harnesses, power windows, power seat controls and transmission, clean switch contacts, replace or recondition endless bits and pieces, and fix numerous little electrics, lights, and we found two heater hoses coming off the engine that puzzled us as they seemed to go to the back of the car - lo and behold it turned out the car had its own rear seat heater control panel with its own heater core and blower motor-! We learned so much on that old car, and the black body looked great all polished up. I hope all goes well with your inspection and cant wait to see you going down the road in it. Best wishes and hoping for more videos on this one, Mike in the US
