This project has turned out to be so special. A few episodes back you were really despondent about lack of progress, lack of interest by viewers, and expense. You tackled so many daunting tasks, (eating your elephant one bite at a time) that would have discouraged everybody else on the channel I'm sure, and your tenacity paid off. You really are to be congratulated. I have been binge-watching lately, and have only got this far, but need to comment and congratulate you. I will be devastated if it turns out later that you sell the car and don't benefit from the luxury of driving it, expense or no expense!

The excitement in your voice at the end when you think you're getting there. It's so adorable. It's also foreshadowing... I remember my dad rebuilding the engine on our minibus and being excited to take it out for it's first run. The prop-shaft fell of as we were going round a corner. Like the front of the prop-shaft screwed into the ground. Funny thing is nobody had touched the prop-shaft or anything near it.

@The_Keeper

Oh definitely, it may even be too good at it. But, that could be a way to get rid of the remaining stains; Use the peroxide to bleach it, and then re-apply the dye. If nothing else, it should be more uniform in colour. If its still a wee bit too dark, he could leave it out in the sun for a couple of days, and let the sun bleach the last bit.

Well done. The car is coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing a full interior renewal and all the little bits functional again. The aircon pipe insulating foam that is perished on the engine, you can buy a new aircon hose foam cover and just put it over it and cable tie it down, don't even remove the old, more insulation better. To properly clean the rusty parts of the engine bay, you can hire a dry ice blasting machine, it will make all the metal surfaces new again. It looks like sandblasting but does not take away the metal, only the oxidation. search for it on youtube. there are a number of companies in the UK that hire out dry ice blasting machines, even better if they can sponsor you. The leather on the drivers seat you can renew by scrubbing and sanding and rebuilding the top layer with the correctly matched leather colour pigment. You can renew them yourself for very little money and it will look as good as it did new. The part on the side that is worn through can be sealed with a filling agent and a leather patch with a curved leather needle and thread to give the patch strength, and the edges can then be brought back so it looks seamless with the filling agent and pigment. it will be a good idea for a video. search for "How To Correctly Repair Damaged & Cracked Car Leather Seats"

What you, the dye, and the carpet did…was magical! As you pointed out, that dye job didn’t look right at first blush. Yet…simply changing the sun angle by sitting in the near side seat did the trick. Perhaps simply arranging and maybe combing the fibres a certain way influences the colours, too. Superb result. No lights on that dash is the biggest win, though. The engine starts on the button…what more could one wish? Well…yeah… I wish you the most positive result the MOT visit!

The black carpets are poorly made copies, the same with the one you tried to dye is from an early car with a floor mounted dip switch. You did a great job with the cleaning. The transmission tunnel section is not held down with adhesive and will have space when you press down in certain parts. The split can be sewn, this was a common technique used when joining carpets although adhesive tapes are now used. 86 The clips on the head restraints are supposed to prevent them from being removed so are working as they should. As for the position of the bonnet light switch, no car manufacturer cares about accessibility for future repairs. The ID plate under the bonnet shows 9510486 which is the paint colour and was a single layer TPA that's not been available for a couple of decades. The next two numbers are the main hide and piping colours and are Connolly designations. Furniture Clinic of Leatherique can supply ready made colour from this and both of them supply great products.
