I thought for sure with a drop that bad there would be some BGA ICs needing replacement. I guess it depends more on when the drops occurs (under use or after the board has cooled). Rather it's was a bit of luck I suppose really just needing a new HDD. Nice repair overall Vince!

**ADDENDUM** With Cracked Plastic you can super glue the cracks together by ensuring enough glue is used so that excessive glue oozes out on both sides of the crack for you to promptly clean the excess away from the external surface, Once the glue is set, I found using an old soldering iron and some sacrificial internal plastics from the repaired case "or if handy some other case" the cracks can be reinforced by melting extra plastic on the inside over the crack, if enough glue was used and the clean up done in time the crack should remain undetectable..

The thing about canned air is that it doesn't actually contain air, because the pressure needed to liquidise air is much larger than a simple spray can will contain. So aside from the obvious waste from the cans, you're spraying either pure butane, propane, or fluorocarbons in the air.
@qwertykeyboard59012 жыл бұрын
mmm... delicious...

Can you do a list or video of the flux,solder braid etc what brand you use and where you buy it from?
@kevinb47132 жыл бұрын
From my experiences with the electric "canned air" the nozzle you used was way too small which keeps the blower basically being held back from max velocity by back pressure. If 6ou would switch to a nozzle at least double the diameter as what you used, and that has a tapered flat tip to allow more overall flow that get concentrated at 5he outlet increasing tip velocity which in turn makes it work better for dusting pcs
@MikeL-FL2 жыл бұрын
I just use my big compressor that I use for my air tools. Turn the regulator up to 90psi, throw on an airgun and it'll blast away any dirt in the vicinity.
@kevinb47132 жыл бұрын
@@MikeL-FL true, that's one way to go but if you don't already have one and don't have the $150-$300 that they cost then these type of devices are the way to go. Mine died one day and really couldn't wait for one to be delivered so I found an eletric high-velocity air-mattress inflator for just $10 at the local wallyworld and I took one of the included nozzels and heated it up then squeezed it into a straight opening at the tip. A bit clunky to hold and move around a computer/game console but it worked way better than I expected it to honestly. It was nesrly as good as my old Datavac
@tyronenelson91242 жыл бұрын
It would have been a lot cheaper to buy an actual air compressor, they work a lot better, I basically got given one for nothing.
@Jdbye2 жыл бұрын
@@tyronenelson9124 They can blow oil all over the thing you are trying to clean so do make sure your air compressor is oil-less. As long as it is, it'll probably work even better than canned air. Air compressors are rather bulky and noisy, though. That's a bit of a turn-off for me who lives in a small apartment without a dedicated workshop area. So I'd rather get a datavac personally even if it's not as effective.

The fact this Xbox One works despite this kink is a bloody miracle! The location of the kink is indeed the saving grace! And it’s no surprise the hard drive stopped working. If the Xbox One itself suffered that much damage, the hard drive must’ve taken a massive hit. It may be more vulnerable when it’s spinning, but with enough force, even an inactive hard drive won’t survive.

Funny story about things out of windows, my old mum so fed up with my brother just watching Star Trek and not doing his uni work well her and he ended up having this massive barney and my old mum had an Irish temper so she lost it picking up his very expensive Franklin Mint Starship Enterprise and flung it out of the upstairs window where it narrowly missed hitting an old bill car, it was so funny my brothers pride and joy flew like a brick and landed like one and me mum was whizzing his Star Trek DVD's out the broken window like frisbees by this point. Strangely enough my brother did toe the line after that and I managed to unbend the Starship Enterprise enough to look fairly OK although it was missing its gold deflector as someone had that away as it was real gold too hehe

I've had quite a few PS4s that got dropped, one I even found on top of a trash can with the upper case and the metal part missing. The board is normally OKish, most of the time the harddrive, the drive (which isn't an issue for an all digital version) and sometimes the PSU are dead. The PSU can be repaired, if you find the fault, but the harddrive and the drive need to be replaced (or atleast the laser, if you don't want to replace the entire drive).

without seeing the rest of the video my prediction at the 2:27 mark is that I recon there are damaged traces on the board from potential bowing structure damage. Lets see how close I was to getting it right.
