That's a great idea. I've often been frustrated at the cost of buying replacements (for my Dremel) - the scotch-brite pads do a good job but don't last long.

While we are talking about make things, when you use the typical 2" angle grinder sanding disks of any grit, when the edges are worn and don't work anymore, cut them down to 1" disks and they will work like new again. Of course you will need a 1" disk holder, but it works. And I found that cutting them down is so easy on a bench grinder from the back side of them...

The tool usually is cutting before the center of the part, there i cut it behind the center

It was so that he could use the side of the platter to chamfer the end instead of turning the compound rest at that angle and use the tip of the platter. Definitely faster than having to reallign the compound rest (wich can be quite a pain in the neck) afterwards. He's a clever one. :)
