Destiny 2 Lore - The Story of Luzaku! The tale behind our first Hive ally!

Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Final Shape tells us about our first potential ally amongst the Hive. Her name is Luzaku and she's a rebel of sorts that has made her own choice to split off from Savathun's Lucent Brood. Her path led her to the Traveller's Pale Heart, where she is now guarding over a lost sector in the Blooming. She may the first of many Hive allies that we make. Regardless, this is her story.

There is one more dialogue in the lost sector as far as I'm aware, where Caiatl was speaking with her, demanding to know what Savathûn and Xivu Arath were up to. There is also one with her and Savathûn, but I personally haven't gotten that one yet.

Byf, when I ran this Sector a second time, there was a bit of dialog where Savathun herself as she claims herself she praises Luzaku for choosing for herself her actions. That she wants that for all her brood. Luzaku thinks her mocking her, but Savathun reiterates she isn't. There's als9 one where Ikora asks Luzaku about that first Lore Tab you read. Ikora claims during this that the Hive Lightbearer was an Acolyte and asks why Luzaku is now a Wizard. Luzaku admits not to know why she's transformed without quote "molting" unquote through Sword Logic...

I've also gotten a dialogue between Luzaku and Savathun on clearing the lost sector; the gist is that Savathun is proud of Luzaku for realising she doesn't need to rely on the Witch Queen and for her making her own choices.

I got an interaction with Luzaku with Caital. Essentially Caital sees Luzaku as a threat and will never see as an ally due to the Hive decimating Torobattle. Caital is unwavering on this.

There is an interaction in that lost sector with Luzaku and Savathun. Gotta say that one is one of my favorites since Savathun seems happy to see that the Hive is changing to not need a leader/God.

Yeah, there is dialogue with Savathun in a certain instance of replaying the lost sector. She invites Luzaku to continue to question, to remain curious if I am remembering correctly. If Luzaku wasn't a part in Savathun's plans which I doubt, then she definitely is now for any future plans coming to fruition. Also, there is a cool interaction with Ikora.

Luzaku’s splinter brood could be the shake up of the hive pantheon that’s talked about in the upcoming episode 3. Maybe her and her group of hive guardians help us take down the remaining two sisters

I heard another today while playing that was between Luzaku and Savvie. Savathun joking about Luzaku "moving out and living on her own." She was playfully praising her for being perhaps the first of the brood to understand that they don't NEED her, never did, and that going out and finding their OWN truth, even if it kills them, is better than the sloppy hierarchy the Hive became. Luzaku responded that death gives a chance to grow. Savathun's asked about what's beyond life and death. And she ended with the best line, "Noodle on that one, sweetie." I wasn't expecting her to be so damn supportive. Then again, she went through and did a helluva lot to free herself from being a prisoner of her own worm, so it really does make sense that she'd look positively on those who leave to find their own path. Some of the lines Savathun says, I hear her almost like a Destiny version of Moxxi from Borderlands. xD *fixed a few mistakes

I have been waiting a long time in hope of a friendly hive. Hive guardians opened up the door to that possibility and now we see it with Luzaku. Only time will tell just how friendly she actually is, but I believe in her. Plus, I don't want to make a completely immortal hive mad at me! What do mean she isn't? I unloaded all my rockets into her and she yet lived! I, uuuh, blamed that one on the taken...

I got some dialogue between Savathun and Luzaku. It was a few days ago, and I don't remember a lot of it word-for-word, but I remember the gist of the end. Luzaku was confronting or questioning Savathun, and Savathun was being her normal self until the very end where (I couldn't tell if she was thinking out loud or speaking to us), but she says that Luzaku is one of the few of her hive that she's actually proud of, and that Luzaku is the only one of her brood to realize that she has a choice now. It sounded a lot like Savathun's speech at the end of Dual Destiny if you choose peace.

I had an Ikora dialog with this lost sector where Ikora asks her about a field report of a Hive Acolyte sparing a guardian. Ikora wanted to know if Luzaku was that Acolyte, Luzaku basically stated that she was reborn in the light.

While it might be a coincidence, Luzaku start with the word Luz, which means light in Portuguese and Spanish. Aku on the other hand seem to be in many languages by what Im seeing, but Im not seeing any that have Latin roots unlike Luz. And this gets even more confusing when you look at Japanese, which apparently have two words that sounds similar to Aku but are completely different. So Im not really sure what it means, if anything at all.

Hey Byf, can you make a video discussing how unrealistic the struggles of humanity are. Think of it, once the warlord era ended, the guardians of the last city are literally immortal to enemies like the fallen. With the type of weapons we have in todays world, let alone Destiny's post golden age world, even a relatively small army of guardians fighting with militaristic cohesion should be able to retake the Earth in a century or less. The power of the light is so ridiculously overpowered against non paracausal enemies. We literally atomize our enemies on the regular, slaughtering hordes. How is there more? How do they replenish so fast? Sure they set up across the system, had thousands of ships, and raided everywhere they could, but eventually the supplies would run short. The number of capable soldiers wouldn't be that good either. Guardians should have been able to retake Earth, set up other fortified cities, push boundaries and territory. The last city only has one set of walls, when it should really have 3 or 4 walls by now. Layers of defensive structures, that as the city expands, become residential and commercial. Retaking prime military assets like Rasputin, or hell, plain old nukes you'd likely find in Old Russia; the guardians should be way better off, same with humanity. Sure, the rest of Sol is another problem entirely, but when just looking at the fallen, I'd say those 1000 guardians sent to retake the moon could have easily retook Earth. Instead of the great disaster, it would be the great triumph over the fallen, a huge leap forward from the apocalyptic dark ages. Like wtf is some Kell gonna do against a nuke?

To my mind, Luzaku is not a Guardian. A Guardian is a Risen defender of the City. She is Risen, and she is friendly, but without explicit ties to the City she can't be a Guardian.

I actually got a conversation between her and savathun. Savathun actually congratulates her, because of all her brood- Luzaku was the only one who truly wants the same thing as Savathun. Freedom to decide her own story. To not be content in merely following behind a greater force, but rather making something of yourself by your own choices.

So long as they prove worthy of trust, I think we can trust hive guardians. Just like Mithrax and his house of Eliksni. Or Caitl and the Cabal she commands. Just because we've been killing each other's kind for years, decades, or even centuries in some cases doesn't mean we can't make peace with individuals deserving of it. Side note, I loved the Mithrax/Luzaku dialogue the most. Was a very nice touch that Mithrax didn't create a distinction between Hive and Earth-Born Guardians. Luzaku is just a Guardian to him like the rest of us.

There's one with Ikora and Luzaku where Ikora tells her of an Acolyte Lightbearer who spared Guardians and their Ghosts and wonders if she's the same one, apparently when she crossed the threshold, she was changed from an Acolyte to a Wizard.

I do like that, which gives me the idea that they all start as an Acolyte and crossing the threshold leads to what guardian they become.

@@L0rdDeLtAit’s the same for the regular hive too i think. knight morph (xivu wrath) or wizard morph(savathûn). It was always strange to me why lucent brood hunters retained their baby morphs. I imagine it’s because the king morph is exclusive to oryx. A lore restriction that affects game design.

Not just her, but the others we cohabitate with. No better way to give life to the other factions than to humanize one or two, by having them join us on a few journeys. Similar to how companions are in mmos.

​​@@_ybabruhnot to mention that with all this fighting, and even with the discovery of Neomuna, there's one thing that basically is uniformed across us all; we are all refugees from a war the Witness began. The Cabal losing Torobatl, the Eliksni losing Riis, us losing Earth to our own warlords, we all are born survivors of losing our worlds. Now that the Witness is gone, things can finally look up. As long as we clear up a few... loose ends first, starting with Nessus.

There really is power in giving second chances. Maybe that's why I still love this game, despite my experiences with Bungie's nearly apathetic attitude towards the people who are their most loyal fans.
