Shouldn't have to fund raise for that project. That is why people pay taxes, to pay for worthy thing like this. The government wastes billions every year on a multitude of things that no one wants. How many billions have they wasted on HS2? A tiny fraction of that money would easily pay for this. Government makes me so angry. It is not their money to waste. We should have total say over how taxes are spent. No one should have to depend on charity in such a wealthy nation.

Unfortunately, as you well know, many worthy projects of an heritage nature (and others) are often financed by volunteers raising funds for their cause. As a volunteer and Trustee myself, I’ve always thought it odd that much of our country’s heritage is managed and funded by small bands of volunteers dotted around the country.
