So as a follow up from my last video on how to test fuel injectors, here is a video on how to clean fuel injectors yourself. Whether you want to clean clogged up injectors or simply clean an injector from a wrecking yard before you put it in your engine, this quick and easy method will save you both time and money. Clogged or dirty fuel injectors could cause a missfire, poor engine performance, a lean condition and other issues that should be addressed sooner than later.

I just wanted to comment and give you a big thank you. 3 F-ing days of trying to figure out why i kept getting a misfire on cyclinder 3. My friend that traded me the scion tc I have said there is a lot of oil in one of the wells so he though it was the valve cover. Well I found out there was oil in every port...nice. I did an oil change, spark plug change, valve cover gasket change (which was bad), and checked all coil packs...and still the misfire. I don't have the money for injectors but i wanted to test it to be sure. I watched your trick and tweaked it. I simply taped the small red tube on to the injector port with electric tape. I made sure to back the tube off so as not to disturb the cylinoid. After checking port 3's injector with this trick, my problem was found. Ahhh, it feels so damn nice to have that piece of mind. Thanks again bud.

Dude, the way you adapted the hose down to the carb cleaner straw to clean that injector was sheer genius! Never saw a better way of cleaning a injector before! Brilliant! I never had any faith in cleaning injectors or luck, but I will be revisiting that, after watching this vid! Simply Awesome! One thing I would recommend for your not so experienced viewers, is to use a heat gun to shrink the heat shrink and to make sure that there battery is a good distance, from the injectors to prevent accidental ignition of any fuel or carb cleaner. Other than that, once again SHEER GENIUS !

Lol no it wasn't. It was the most ridiculously over complicated mess. All he had to do was use a rubber stopper in the first hose with a small hole to fit the cans hose sprayer. Or just use silicone to seal the first hose and the can hose.

Thanks for this great video. I’m chasing a P300 and this helped me exclude the fuel injectors. FYI everyone, don’t use clear plastic tubing at the end where the injector is inserted, it will blow off the line. You gotta use real fuel line and a hose clamp.

@@kasdelgrande4049 That fuel injector video, with fuel line and hose clamps worked well, but it turned out they weren’t my problem. If I had to do it all over again, because of the lifter issues I later learned about on the 5.7 Hemi, I would first take off the valve cover, disable the fuel injection at the fuse box (so the engine doesn’t start), crank the engine and observe the rockers. I could see I had two that were hardly moving. The lifters had shredded the cam, case closed. Getting the valve cover off is a process but in hind site, doing this first instead of last, it would’ve saved me a day of checking all those different possibilities. Hope that’s not your problem, but that P300 can be a serious bunny trail. Mine were the 3&5 cylinder misfires, so both on the same drivers side bank.

I used silicone self-seal tape on the red straw hose. A little vise outside and perfect. I also rebuilt each injector. 20$ parts. Kinda fun and nicely done. I watch your work thanks

instead of making a hose reducer plug the other end of that hose with a bolt and a hose clamp on it. drill a tiny hole in the side of the hose just big enough for the spray cans nozzle. done.

I accidentally discovered my fuel injectors while trying to get my valve cover off after I stripped one of the bolts. had to get in there to move some stuff so I could manhandle the valve cover off. So, I had to research how to remove the fuel injectors, and came across this video. Was going to just replace them, but think I'll clean them instead because on another video the guy said the electrical part isn't what wears out these days, they just get plugged up. So we'll see. Hopefully I'll get to the head gasket, which is the whole point of this project in the first place. And hopefully the head isn't warped. What a nightmare!!!!! But, I guess sometimes one problem actually leads to another solution for something else. At least that's what I've been trying to tell myself!!! :)

Good idea👍you could eliminate almost all of the tubing by using a brass fitting into the first large hose that was clamped onto the injector, and reducing it to the final size..i.e. using a plug and drilling a hole in it...

For anyone performing that procedure I strongly recommend a Face Shield! Glad I used! I made same device, but w/interruption button on one wire and used just different cones like from Gorilla heavy duty Glue and alike. Trying to press the button and spraying everything was flying apart, so I just pressed the button w/clamp (I didn't know about regime in which that injector works) probably for 1-2 minutes. I succeeded to spray out from the bottom end, felt the injector is getting hot, disconnected the wire. Then I tried to use a new set for cleaning (for ~$35 fm/Amazon) w/pulse regime. It worked eventually after some practice (on Mode #4 w/constant pulsing), but leaked a lot of Carburetor Cleaner, so I started to watch more films and fortunately came across yours, where you worn about connecting the injector for longer then 1-2 seconds. I'm afraid that injector I connected for a long time is somewhat damaged, or not, if it performs the same like others (on that device from Amazon)? Please could you tell, if it clicks and sprays can it still be damaged? See I put it together w/other injectors and now don't know which one went under those harsh conditions. I hope maybe some types of injectors can withstand those conditions longer than other types. The injector is an original injector from the car 2001 Saturn SL2 and that car is know to withstand many things. Thank you very much for the film. The idea w/reduced tubing and clamps is just great!

Hi there. Great video. I'm now having a problem with my Honda Accord 1999 EX 2.3L F23A4 engine misfire on all four cylinders (P0300, P0301-04). Once I plugged in the ODB2 scanner into the port, the engine runs fine. Here is what I have done on my car: 1) Ignitions: New spark plugs. Replaced the distribution. 2) Air intake system: I cleaned EGR passage, and EGR valve. 3) O2 sensor reading is always high (0.6-0.8V) indicating engine is running rich. I replaced it with new Denso 02 sensor, the reading is still the same. So I went ahead doing step 4 below; replacing fuel pump and cleaned the fuel injectors. 4) Fuel: Replaced fuel pump. Cleaned the injectors. After I replaced the fuel pump, the engine is having hard time crank. When it runs, the engine just shakes. The misfire symptom will go away once I plugged in the ODB2 scanner in the port. Once I plugged it back in, the misfire symptom came back. I suspect it's the bad ECM, but if ECM is bad it won't be able to run the engine. Seems like some wiring is shorted, but I just couldn't tell where it is. Even my mechanic doesn't know where to start.

An ecm can go bad and still kinda work but if you are saying the scan tool plugged in causes the car to run, that's a known issue you should be able to google and resolve quickly enough.

I watched this a long while ago and made this sort of setup but today I have just done a different car so watched again, I had a Wynns Carb / Injection cleaner spray can and it had a larger top on it so a bit of 8mm fuel pipe fitted nicely over it,then onto a bit of blue airline (With a small bit of metal tube inside so I could tighten it up) ,and then the injector. (all clamped on with jubilee clips. Worked a treat. Thanks again

Nice vid, try a 9V smoke alarm battery, most injectors will open with one without the risk of burning the solenoid.

Good Ideas - BUT - You should not use the marine heat shrink tubing with adhesive inside. There is a possibility if the adhesive is exposed to the cleaner used, the adhesive could dissolve and get into your injector. You are better off to use the plain heat shrink or just use clamps.

The heat shrink was not used as a source for the solution to travel through it was only used to go around the smaller tubes which is what the solution traveled through. If an solution did manage to come in contact with the the heat shrink it would be minimal at best and not enough to do any damage.

Yep it worked on my Cagiva Raptor 1000 (Suzuki TL1000 V twin engine). I coupled to a variable DC supply started at 5v and the injectors triggered so continued for 20 cycles each, thanks for that, couple carb cleaner to the injectors and pulse them....genius!

There are numerous problems one must check when cleaning injectors manually. Leaking. Fuel injectors have individual components - pintles, balls and discs that must be properly sealed while under operating pressure to avoid leaking. Fuel volume. Injectors need to supply the right amount of fuel under operating pressure. Atomization. Fuel needs to be under high pressure and atomized properly to provide optimal combustion. Distribution. The spray pattern of the fuel mixture is extremely important to guarantee safe and efficient combustion.

In my opinion he should have started by blowing in reverse flow of the injector so that the dirt is pushed out then when this has been done.Connect the normal way to check for the four spouts are now unblocked. But thank you for the clip.

A good video but instead of all them tubes & shrink wrap just plug one end of large tube (the one that goes on the injector) with a bolt or cork or something and a clip over it then for the spray straw punch a small hole with a sharp spike like a small nail push the straw in & glue it in place. then you have a more compact & cheaper device

Great video! I have to clean out one injector on my Mercedes M102 4 cyl but they're not electronically activated as it's mechanical FI. Shouldn't matter that much. I'll give this system a shot tonight. If it doesn't work, injectors for this car are cheap to replace. Thanks!!

Nice video. I was able to construct an on board cleaner out of pvc so there's no need to remove the injectors. Only took about 30 minutes to clean the injectors. Before and after performance was like night and day.

yes, it can work very well,but using that method a few times did not fix one of my injectors...sometimes injector filter is full of crap and that can only be fixed by removing injector..best to purchase injector rebuild kit and a new injector if you need to remove...i purchased a rebuilt oem for $20... auto store did not have oem injectors...but for $129 they would order me one...

Use a small Srynge pump tube to connect, It should fit both fuel Injector on pumping side (put the seal on) and Carb spray extension pipe on needle side (Unplug the needle)..

This is fine for high impedance injectors. If you have low impedance injectors, the high current from being directly connected to the battery can damage them. You can still do this, but you will also need an 8ohm, 20w resistor connected between either the positive or negative of the battery and the injector.

I saw a $27 tester on Amazon that has a box that has the electrical connectors and you can set pulse modes. Also includes adapters to fit different diameter injectors to shoot the cleaner through.

Great video! Two questions I have are: (1) wouldn't it be better to connect the positive and then just "pulse" the negative side for two reasons: less spark and also that's how the ECU works is pulsing the ground (or at least I believe that's correct). And (2) wouldn't it be better to back flush first and clear any large debris before the small micron filter instead of trying to push it through the filter? @@Turboboob it's designed to pulsate on the negative because it's safer in a car. The entire car is grounded so it's better to run your positives straight and make all your "switching" negative. A classic example is the light in the car activated by door switches.

@@abdulmuqsittofie949 A really fast way of pulsing DC is with a file. Run a cable from the end of a file to the injector. Connect the positive lead directly from the battery to the injector. Then attach a wire with a nail or even an alligator clip to the battery. Then, drag the nail or clip across the file. It will connect on the ridges and disconnect on the low spot between the ridges. So if the file has 50 ridges per inc and you drag the clip or nail across the file at an inch per second, you'll get 50 pulses per second. I do this with other things to create pulsed DC

Done something similar in the past but it only works for mildly clogged injectors. If they are truly gummed up, they need to be ultrasonically cleaned which often also includes a back flush, then a test to make sure they still flow as they should. Also the little strainer screen needs to be replaced. If one has an old fuel rail around, an old fuel pump, a bucket, and something to generate pulses (even a 555 timer based circuit, or a Megasquirt and Stim) it's not hard to improvise an automatic cleaning rig.

Don't forget protective glasses, it may not seem but there is a bit of a pressure and those connections enjoy breaking free. Don't forget to back flush because that gives a flow from the opposite 'normal' direction. Install the injectors the same day, don't let them stay with that solvent overnight as it contains acetone and that can damage the injector. I use a small 9V battery by the way, plenty enough. Never use acetone or lacquer cleaner.

I made something similar with a medical syringe body and flushed the injector both ways. This was done on an R30 nissan skyline which was a two liter turbo inline six. The duct tape adhesive will dissolve and you have a gooey mess with a mess of tape that unraveled. Not a good idea. I remove adhesive using carb cleaner sometimes. His idea with hose is pretty smart.

I use a 240 to 12V AC adapter with a diode inline to the positive injector post. In Australia, AC wall power is 60 hz, USA 50 hz, makes a perfect pulse signal similar to how the ecu functions. I recycle my cleaning fluid (once filtered) and use a basic inline fuel pump to provide the pressure. Leave it connected till the spray pattern is nice. Obviously before cleaning replace the filter inside said injector.

I did pretty much the same thing. Tip : works 10x better if you use much sorter pieces of hose. The one I did only the length of about the first big piece he used.

I've seen people shove a washer into the end of a 1/2' clear tube shove the straw into the washer hole and fill with a hot glue gun. Saves all the multiple tubes and heat shrink and only one connection. But I like this way to clean them. Thanks

On my dirtbikes the injectors get a little clogged after a 100hrs or so of riding and the bike bogs if u blip the throttle fast

Plug the end with a bolt or dowel and clamp . Drill an angled hole into the tubing smaller than the diameter of the extension on the can and push the extension through into the tube. Less expensive and easier and neater.

You can use a file for more rapid pulsing. Run a wire from the battery to a small alligator clip. Then run a wire from the file to the port on the injector Then drag the alligator clip across the file.. As you do this, the clip will connect briefly to the ridges and not be connected on the valleys. So if there are 50 ridges per inch on the file and you drag the clip across the file in one second, you will get 50 pulses per second.

Being lazy, I found a plugwire boot, stuck a plug in one end, the injector in the other and poked a hole in the side for the spray. Also used a testlight as one lead. Works.

Try a syringe I've done this with my Mazda you won't need to use all the tubing and shrink tubes and it will hold more pressure carb cleaner tube goes where the needle goes, you can use super glue around the carb cleaner tube to hold it and you can get small hose camps for the large end of syringe or safety wire. I think it would be better to back flush first so you don't drive any bigger dirt into the injector holes since they are very small. You can get injector overhaul kits from auto stores now so you can pull the small screen from inlet port of injector Kit should have this in it with new O rings but Great video info for cleaning injector's...

There is but they are pricey , I would find and injector at the junk yard for your model and then go to drug store and see if they will sell give you a syringe they looked at me funny when I told them I showdd them a video and they wanted to know how to do it. So always back flush first you dont want to push any dirt into those small holes. You could also go to hardware store look for clear llastic tubing and auto store for small clamps. You'll see that syringe can be cut down and plastic tubing can be pht together.small end of syringe fits the carb cleaner nozzle tight. Once you get a scape injector to look at the idea's come easy to figure out. It did help my mileage which helos the power.
