Great video! If a child continually rejects certain foods, like things seasoned with garlic and onions, I suggest that parents check out whether their child has acid reflux. I know of 2 cases of this. Also, be on the lookout for food sensitivities; their mouth breaking out from raw apples for example. Sometimes kids have a hard time interpreting what they are experiencing when they eat certain foods, but they know they are having a negative feeling, and their natural inclination is to reject the food.

My granddaughter complained of not liking milk and cheeses... after a little investigation, she said she would get an upset stomach after drinking or eating dairy ... found out she wasn't exactly lactose intolerant but her body didn't digest the proteins in dairy properly... medication worked and she can now drink/eat small amounts....

If you don't have picky eaters, you wouldn't understand. None of these tips would work with my children. They aren't silly, they don't want broccoli in any form. They don't like dips. They don't like beans and would detect them in the mince. It just doesn't work. When kids get older than toddlerhood, they know!
@ЕкатеринаНейфельд-к5к4 ай бұрын
That’s what I thought, kids are not silly, they know and understand what they want and like, changing the ways of serving, involving them in cooking, and all the other tips just don’t work. I lost my hope(((

My picky eater is my husband. He eats like a 10 year old. He never outgrew it. One of his biggest problems with food is texture. So he doesn’t really know if he likes things or not on many foods. He just won’t get past it. He doesn’t like beans (except green beans) so he’s not going to eat them in dips. He doesn’t even eat dips! I get so bored cooking the same five things on rotation week after week.

I’m not watching this because my kids are picky eaters, I’m watching this because my fiancé is a picky eater. My kids are very good eaters. They are ages three and four. They literally eat anything and everything. When they are hungry they reach for vegetables. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t like to change their diapers because they eat so much vegetables. Yes, they are still in diapers, I am struggling with that big-time. Anyway, short story long, I’m watching this because my fiancé is a picky eater. I haven’t watch this video yet, but I know it will be great. I absolutely love your videos!

An adult picky eater here- turns out my aversion to certain foods is a disorder. I still struggle with it, but I’d recommend acting like it’s not there. Don’t make it a fuss, just serve small (SUPER SMALL VEG) portions of the whole meal to her, sit down and eat your meal. Let her come to terms that she is still hungry after finishing everything she likes, and let her know she can have more of what she likes once she clears her plate. Don’t praise her for eating them, don’t scold her for not eating them. The negative association with certain foods is only heightened when an emotional association is formed.

Of my goodness I don't eat a stir fry, I like my vegetables raw etc. I have high functioning aspergers and separating foods to the degree that I will use separate plates at times is one of my traits. The more you said the more I felt less lonely as someone else has some similar food conditions. I only have had all but 1 metre of my intestine removed over time when its blocked by ulcers due to having crohns disease. Between these two health issues eating is a chore that causes severe pain. It takes me at least four hours a day to eat enough calories. The funny thing is I love to cook Xx

"Family style" eating was a concept introduced to the head start classroom years ago. It requires the teacher to sit and eat with the students at breakfast and lunch. All the items (in separate bowls/platters) are placed in the center of the table just as you'd do at home. As a result, the children tend to feel more relaxed and inclined to try new foods by watching the teacher. I believe that if more families made a regular habit of eating together (w no phones, etc at the table), children would develop a healthier relationship with food.

Good advice! Luckily my son never was a picky eater except for one or two items he really and absolutely did not like and I think everybody is entitled to that. While I am with you on that zucchini bread I would put the broccoli cream soup in that same category, though. You just cover it up with lots of fatty cheese and cream instead of lots of sugar. But all the other tricks and tips were great as long as you portion the dip.

My daughter used to be picky. I started telling her that whatever I was making us all for dinner is what she gets for dinner and nothing else unless she eats it all and just wants more. It was hard at first just because she knows how to make me feel bad lol but I stayed firm and now she eats anything I make. Obviously there are some foods she legitimately just doesn't like so i just dont cook them but i never let her say she doesn't like something she hasnt tried or just because she wants something different.

Heads up: don't stick to the 'they'll eat when they're hungry' if they skip it for more than 2 meals in a row. My parents used that tactic on me; I was undiagnosed autistic and had severe sensory issues. My parents didn't know I had any issues, and neither did I, as they thought that I was just weird as a kid. The issue with the 'They'll eat when they're hungry' however, was the feeling of going hungry for me was less unpleasant than eating the foods that caused unpleasant sensory stimulation. Eventually, I had to get taken to the hospital because I went 2 weeks without eating, and by the time they had given in and tried giving me food I was comfortable with and enjoyed, I didn't want to eat ***anything*** because the idea of eating any food became uncomfortable and overstimulating sensory-wise. It might not be autism, there are plenty of disorders in children that can cause picky eating, but don't make the mistake of assuming 'My kid doesn't have any of those things'. Picky eating is a sign of an underlying problem, and it may never get solved unless that underlying problem is addressed first. It's similar to assuming that you might not get into a serious care crash until it happens.

Both of my kids are picky. My 3 year old daughter won't eat most meat, but will eat nuts, hummus, cheese and yogurt and loves salad. My son is protein deficient and slightly anemic. He also won't eat much if any protein including nuts, hummus, seeds, cheese, yogurt, sandwich meat or sandwiches unless pb and j (and he doesn't like peanut butter). He will eat lettuce as a salad only with lemon juice. No more green beans, cucumbers, peppers, peas, broccoli. No mashed potatoes, ground meat, meatballs. He doesn't like mac and cheese or hot dogs or hamburger, dressings, sauces etc. The list goes on and on and on. I do make smoothies with carrots and cucumber and other veggies/fruits 2-3 times a week, but it hasn't been enough to keep him healthy. And he doesn't like chocolate.

Hah, so en pointe! 🤗🤣🤗 👍 Roasted 2 chickens at a time to freeze the meat into some ZIP-style bags? Single parent. He was 3rd grade. Let it cool. Got a step stool for him to help debone it in the kitchen, separate it from the bones, cartelage, skin, etc. Major lol! He said, eeeeew. This is gross, mom!!! I calmly said to him, Sooo, where did you think Chicken McNuggets, Chicken noodle soup, chicken fajitas came from? Still chuckling 20 years later. Hey, cut me some slack. I was flipping a former drug house, single parent, alarm set for 5 a.m., and crashed just before midnight for over 3 years straight. He hated the texture of broccoli. Mom, feels like bugs in my mouth... and where, exactly did he learn THAT from?? Something tells me that I do not want to know, lol! Pulled put the Juicer, juiced a few pounds of broccoli, sprayed a couple of ice cube trays w vege oil, froze it, put into zip bag in the freezer door, and it went in the soup at the last minute or on his highchair tray when he was teething, and the weather was hot. Put some popcycle sticks in, and you have healthy popsicles. Works w corn, frozen peas, green beans, peaches/cut up fruit, etc. Find an awesome recipe that they love? Get them involved! Tell them, once a month or week, You're planning the meal on X day... make it a BIG deal! Make them (yes, MAKE, LOL) them go w you to buy the best veges for fajitas, sneak in some blackened onions, bell peppers (make it colorful), smokey/blackened flavour like bbq), set/put a fajita bar on the table or in the kitchen (allows choice), grab a bag of tortillas... and your child just might be the next Ina Garten, Jacques Pepin, GR (Gordon Ramsay) or Julia Child... !! Hook them in via their stomach? Of course! One of his fav foods was chicken noodle soup with garlic dipping bread/toast. Blueberry bagels, toasted, dipping in blueberry yogurt? Tortillas w cheese in the oven (straight on the racks) w either mustard or a spoon of Pace mild/medium salsa. Always make 3-4 times the batch. Why? 1 for now. 1 for tomorrow. 2 for the freezer. Make a mess, make it a big one, and soon your fridge/freezer will serve you (and time) well, right? One clean up! Yay! Who doesn't love that??!!?? Amen?

Severe picky eaters usually have other challenges like sensory processing issues, food allergies, etc. They won’t eat even when they’re hungry, because food literally feels like hurting them. Many “tips” given here sadly won’t apply to them. My youngest I swear I've tried it all but she's the biggest pain... She would eat pizza rolls fine but would squeeze the insides out because we'll there is 'black spots' otherwise known as seasoning. My friend one day opened one up and showed her she's been eating it the whole time...she didn't touch them again for a month and now that she's willing to eat them again she still won't eat the insides... Mac and cheese ...she use to like the cup mac and cheese but it had to be served in a bowl....now she won't eat boxed mac it has to be from the cup because the two are apparently not the same and she refuses to eat it...we even tricked her and saved a cup from a previous time she ate it and the next time we made it on the stove we served it in the cup and she took it fine. We then asked if she wanted any from the stove and she said "never" She gags at the sight of something new, I'm lucky if she will even lick something to count that as a taste. Nothing stays in her mouth long and she might even admit she liked something a tiny bit later but in the moment will gag

Maybe try to get her to help in the kitchen? To see everything and taste directly as she is cooking, maybe having that bit of control over what she is eating might help her become more familiar. I was also very very picky like this when I was younger because I was force fed and my mom used to hide foods inside other things from me, so I became suspicious of her. The only way I try foods is to take my time, have a glass of water or juice near in case I dislike the flavor a lot, and to know how it was prepared. Sometimes I just can't eat more than a little bit, but sometimes I am surprised by something I really like. Also check what she dislikes about foods. She may dislike some textures, smells or flavors, and that may be what she can't pass, but also, maybe she doesn't like the smell of the oven/microwave and dislikes the idea of something cooked there, or she may just be scared somehow. Sorry if you have already tried this, I know how hard it is to get such a picky eater to eat new foods, as I was one.

My son will literally eat nothing that was shown except the mac n cheese. If I mix anything in it he will not eat anything else the rest of the day.

Mostly it’s parents fault, they buy frozen food because it’s easier, or pasta, or things like that, and when they try to give them veggies, it’s too late because they’re used to those flavors, if you raise your kid without cooking that food, it will be so easy that a kid eats healthier
