As well as this, the plot is very un-mystish. In all the other ones it was something you could believe would happen. It wasn't wierd or anything. It was all just awesome and you were helping Atrus' family as well as exploring the Ages.

@Quellepaur I still think Riven had the best puzzles because they felt natural. Working out the D'Ni number system because Gehn used them to hide secrets from the Rivenese in his journals was probably the least contrived puzzle out of all the games, and felt very rewarding figuring out.

@tasev1 That's because the Bahro were only introduced in Uru and from what I recall, setting them free was going to be the story arc for the online portion. However when Uru Live got canceled for the first time, Cyan got the opportunity to wrap up those plot threads in a final Myst game. It's actually easier (and better) to consider Myst V as part of the Uru series than a part of the main Myst series.

you can just like in an FPS game, he is just using the more Mysttraditional there are 3 modes for controlling Myst 5 1)Myst 1 and 2 control (just clicking around no 360° turns, no running around) 2)Myst 3 and 4 controls (turning around 360° + clicking around to move "through the pics") 3)FPS (using the keypad to walk around)

@Lian1286 Myst, Riven and Exile supposedly happened around 200 years ago (our time). Dn'i live much longer than humans do. Myst 5 and Uru are more recent, I believe that Myst 5's character is supposed to be one of the DRC members that end up discovering and excavating Uru. Dn'i people live hundreds of years longer than humans, which is why Atrus is still alive.

In all the other games the people where filmed with blue screen. They weren't just spectacular animations, they were real people. Because of the new way of moving for EoA and Uru, the people in both have to be animated and the ages have to be done video game style. For this reason the realism of it goes very much away and feels just like every other game.

@zaelie Agreed. Riven is my absolute favorite of the series. The puzzles were enough that you actually had to stop and think. I miss games that sometimes required a pen a paper just to figure it out and reach the end. Somehow, I actually felt smarter upon completion of the journey.

@schwarzfalk it''s not a plothole. Yeesha had good intentions but became delusional over time due the grower prophecy. like Escher wanted to restore the D'ni but grew insane too. if you give either one the tablet they use it selfishly. the right answer is to drop the tablet. because when someone has absoulte power, it corrupts them. so the player has to realise NONE should have that power. and dropping the tablet frees the Bahro, who were an artifact of previous corruption.

@Quellepaur So true. That reminds me of my friend. He borrowed a Myst game off me after seeing me play it but didn't like it. A year later he borrwed Myst 5. I came to his place a few days later and he had a bunch of papers on his table with crap written all over it, and told me he went to sleep thinking about a puzzle and when he woke up the puzzle clicked mentally and it felt so rewarding. I was like fuck yeah, he gets it. He is now a Myst fan. lol.

I kind of thought of her time in Uru as some... rebel period? Like she was dressed in almost full black, with the ginger/red hair but half bald, that's when she got the face tattoos... so I imagine she returned to a less extreme style, but the tattoos stayed as a mark of bad decisions of youth? :D

the reason for the 3d characters is because when Rand and Robyn Miller were creating the first Myst, they wanted 3d character models. but that couldn't happen in 1992. In 2005, Cyan had the technology to do 3d characters

It's true; when I played this one, it definitely didn't impress me as much as Myst 4. But I loved the Bahro. They were the best thing about this game; really, the only improvement over the other games. I admit, I needed a walkthrough, even for the end. Didn't see that drop icon. I also needed this video; my sound dropped right after Esher was linked in and I couldn't hear the rest. Same with the bad Esher ending. Could you tell me what he was yelling about with the stick and the tablet?
@Aleksandar6ix14 жыл бұрын
@iNEXSERTiON Because riven used hi-rez 2D images that didn't need much of a graphics processor. Nowadays, an entire environment is 3D rendered fully, and textures tend to suffer. But yes, RIVEN WAS MY FAV OF ALL.

Considering the fact that Yeesha doesn't seem to consider us a friend until the end of Myst 5, I'm guessing we're not the same person who helped Atrus in Myst 1-4. I always liked to imagine that my character was a descendant of The Stranger though.

@shuboy05 they had a very good motion capture engine in this one though... Escher especially looks almost lifelike when he talks and moves. Although a good old 2D Atrus would never be astray lol.
@shuboy0514 жыл бұрын
@LunicInformer I have a theory that because the characters have to interact with the Bahro (like where Escher is restrained by two of them) that it would look too goofy to have live action actors talking to either a puppet or CG creature. As another example the Wing Commander games tried their best with the Kilrathi but they always looked too puppet like to me.
@daLom14 жыл бұрын
@zaelie i think the motions themselves are pretty good, but you can somehow see that they put a little too much motion into some characters, esp. the one you mentioned, escher. he looks like he has some kind of attention deficite, cuz he just can't stand still :D anyways, great game ... i skipped myst 4, so my eyes kinda popped out when i saw the graphic improvement!
@Lian128615 жыл бұрын
Regarding the previous games, I never could decide whether it was the actors themselves or the script that made the acting seem bad. Some of the lines were kind of over-the-top.

I have to ask, are we finding out that the reason that the D'ni could ever link anywhere was because they had enslaved the bahro thousands of years before? And if that's true, what were all the books for???

Hmm, I think I prefer the first 4 better. I liked that they brought back the old click-look movements but why did they have to change the characters to computer animated? Putting real-life sequences in an animated world used to be SO cool. But what's with this? It looks like a downgrade to me.

With EoA there are these wierd creatures who have a Master. The Master has a golden tablet that for some unexplained and unrealistic reason controls them. As well as this, Yeesha is a sort of prophet and that is something I hate in most video games. She talks in riddles and she has a wierd burden that she claimes has been passed down from her father even though Aitrus, T'iana, Gehn, Cathrine, and Atrus never mentioned anything of the sort in the books or in the games.

Worst animations I have seen in a video game. Seriously? THAT's Atrus? What ever happened to nice LIVE ACTION filming for the people? *sigh* I guess they had to take that aspect of the realism OUT even thought that's one of the main things that made it so real for me.

Hey remember how you held onto this book for dear life in MYST III and couldn't open it? Well here's the only ever look you'll get at Releeshahn and then never again. WHYY? LEMME EXPLORE. They tease this place quite a few times and then you never even get the chance to take a lengthy look at it? There are reasons I hate MYST V and this is one of them.

Indeed, terrible animations. Some weird mixture of motion capture and handmade animation. The movements of Yeesha are weird and unrealistic (6:48!). But the real actors from previous installments weren't convincing either with their bad acting.
@Scorpiochess15 жыл бұрын
Myst 5 was wonderful..... if you skip all the parts that have people in them. The infamous Zelda CD-i games had better acting than this. There's too much body-movement from all the characters, Esher screams too much (not to mention that disturbing girly giggle in the "bad" ending), all 3 human characters apparently don't have any teeth, Atrus QQs too much, and what the hell is Yeesha babbling about to herself from 6:39 to 7:22?

Lame. Riven is still the best of all 5. Hands down. For some reason, End of Ages always reminds me of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch - An utterly crap story that has nothing to do with the entire series other than it shares the same name. Such a disappointment.
