there is kind of a juxtaposition of how as they're singing this joyous gospel number, Celie, who is 13, is giving birth to another child.

William McLean true. But I think it's also a foreshadowing of future joy for Celie. how the Lord works in "mysterious ways" in her seemingly destitute and hopeless situation. Giving birth to children she thinks she'll never see again. To me this was one of the most powerful moments in the musical

I saw The woman who had the line “what you going name your baby child “ do the role of Celie… and when I tell you she has an anointing on her voice… A gospel growl… but she didn’t use it much.. but when she did it was so effective… She was amazing…I think her name is Bree. Amazing 🤩.. All the voice are good.

I’m so grateful I got a chance to see Cynthia and Jennifer on Broadway in this. I saw a matinee and it was fire. I just saw the tour in Los Angeles and it was amazing but not quite as incredible as the Broadway version. Still amazing though

They cut the overture out for the revival. The cast just comes out during the house announcements and they begin the show with this ( mysterious ways)

joshua owens I wondered about that. In the Menier Chocolate Factory production (on which the Broadway revival was based) the Overture was still in existence, albeit in an altered, shorter, form. Instead of the bombastic opening of the original Broadway production, it began with a gentle flute rendition of the "What About Love" theme and quickly moved along into the "Mysterious Ways" number as here.
