Why do you think Scout kept going back to the nursing home?

Scout was summoned spiritually and he knew he has a mission at the nursing facility. He desperately needed love himself and understood he can both receive and give. Love is all that matters. In the end, it’s our compassion, mercy, commitment, respect, trust, and understanding that we take with us into the hereafter. Scout, and all animals, deserve a safe, healthy furever home. 🐶

Something drew Scout to the Nursing home. He came back 3 times. Maybe a former owner was there but you don't know how far he came from so that's strange. It's like he just showed up. Maybe a Guardian Angel sent him there. He claimed the Nursing home as his place and he wants to be around elderly. He is providing love & companionship to the residents ans staff and that is wonderful for them. Did they ever say how old they think Scout is?

Amazing how he found his own way there, escaped the shelter, and wouldn't give up until they let him stay. It's almost as if his previous person, perhaps an elderly woman who was taken and put in this home, sent him there after she passed to comfort and give companionship to the other residents. We'll never know what he experienced, maybe a stray left on the streets (bb pellets!), but likewise, there are probably residents who can no longer communicate about their own pasts or express feelings, except w/this dog. Just goes to show there's so much about the animal, natural, and spritual realms that we may never completely understand - until it's our time, too.💕🐾🌈🕊️

Beautiful story!! I worked in nursing homes for years, and I believe every one of them should have a resident dog. It's gives the dog, not only a loving home, but a sense of purpose. And, as mentioned in the video, it makes it seem more like a home to the residents. 😊💖🙏

Any type of pet would be a benefit to residents, staff and visitors. My local nursing home had birds inside in a custom built aviary and a semi feral cat colony outside. The cats were all caught and "fixed" so not sure if the colony is still there but residents use to go outside to feed and pet them.

I agree. Pets are so beneficial. Unfortunately one has to consider the possibility of allergic reactions. My mother adored dogs and grew up with them, but became increasingly allergic to them later in life. It god so bad that just being near one would result in a frightening asthma attack that did not respond to drugs. Very sad for her.

Except there is an issue when residents are allergic to dogs. Or the caregivers, for that matter. I’ve known staff to quit because dogs were allowed to stay (in the past) Fortunately, there is a “Pals” program where dogs can visit but not stay. It would announced ahead of time so residents and staff who are allergic could avoid them.

I have worked in a nursing home for Alzheimer's. Our residents were allowed to bring their own pet. We had dogs, cats; birds, rabbits. In the homes garden, we had a giant tortoise, ducks and chickens. I worked with therapy dog Jack, and Lucy was the home's cat. She would visit daily from room to room. Would she stay in a room and not move on, we knew the sign, that the resident would leave this earthly plane. Having animals in any institution, is an advantage. Through the presence of any animal, very withdrawn; shy, fearful people, are suddenly more sociable.

@@justafan6535 Hi there, the tortoise was brought by one of the residents. It was so funny. When he arrived he came without a pet. After realising that the animals were owned by the residents, he asked if he could also bring a pet. We agreed; as long as it wasn't a snake. A couple of days later his son arrived and deliverd his dads pet, this huge tortoise, that he had for over 30 years. It was a great addition to our variety of animals as everybody found something to feed it. Apples, carrots, lettuce, grapes. Dino, was used to humans and marched from person to person wanting food. Dino is still there, although the owner has passed away. Most likley will survive everybody.🐢

My mom worked at a nursing home as i grew up and this stray cat came in one day around christmas and just stayed.. well he stayed in the lobby or the halls but everyone knew that when he went into a room and wouldnt leave. Its because the person was about to pass away. he became known for that and was never wrong. Every time he entered a room the nurses would call the family to come and get ready to say goodbye. They also had a bird in the lobby in a cage and if it started chirping and singing they knew someone was close to death and to get ready to loose someone. Its so weird how animals can sense death coming. And they are never wrong.

What a beautiful story. So reassuring and conformational regarding the magic of animals. About six years ago, I had a cat who clearly came to me in the afternoon when I got home to let me know that she was going to pass very soon. And she did pass early the next morning in my lap. There's a tribe in Australia, probably more than one, where each member becomes aware what day they're going to die. They tell the tribe when they're going to die, which is usually 2 or 3 days in advance. The tribe holds a celebration one day prior. On the day, following the good-byes, the individual walks off into the bush, lays down on the ground, and passes within about two hours time.

Animals like Scout can provide great comfort. The retirement community in which my mom lived had therapy dogs. I was amazed at the IMPACT they had on the residents, especially those in the skilled-nursing wing. Eye contact with a dog and a little snuggle consistently produced calming, focus, and joy, better than any medication could!

But srsly all nursing homes should have a pet. I worked in them when I was a troubled teen and assigned mandatory volunteer work to keep me out of trouble in the summer. Some of those places are actual horror, but even the really good ones feel sterile and sad. Having a pet is absolutely a wonderful way to make those places feel like a home.

Very nice comment! I am also in full agreement with your sentiments. By the way, I think the Greek language is the most beautifully written script in the world. I wish I had studied it in school.

After reading the title of this story I said to myself that this dog knows someone there at the hospital. This is such a beautiful story and I am so happy he was adopted. Many years ago I use to work in a nursing home. There was a dog there that was adopted and lived there 24/7 A huge help for the patient's well being/staff having that dog around:)

More homes should consider doing this. Whether it be a cat or dog, animals bring joy to people. That dog is living his best life in the best home he could ever ask for. ❤

What a lovely, lovely, LOVELY Boy! Scout is amazing and SO brave for making a break to be with vulnerable people. Scout is a true empath, and he is doing an EXCELLENT job looking out for the People at your care home.. These LOVELY People REALLY LOVE and appreciate this care, and LONG may it continue. My Mum, who is still at home with Parkinson's lost her beloved Jack,a silver toy poodle in 2020 but we keep her going with Friday Night Doggie Visits with Bella the Cockerpoo and Harley the Border terrier. They LOVE coming round for cuddles and their dinner...! Plus my partner and I have a Chocolate Tabby Point Siamese boy named Micah and three Guinea Pigs named Alf, Rufus and Robin. Although they can't visit, their naughty and cute tales keep Mum going. Much love to you and Scout. Thank you SO much for what you are all doing. Xx🥰

What an absolutely beautiful story!! 😄 Dogs just know where they want to be and Scout was drawn to this nursing home!!! 🐶💖 Thankfully he was embraced with open arms!! Lots of them!! 😄His not liking men visitors could tell that a man in his past was unkind to him!! 😔 We adopted a poodle and he would cower if you raised your arm up as if to hit him!!! 😭 Broke our heart's as he was just 12 weeks old!! 💔 So we tried not to raise our arm for a long time and he eventually stopped cowering!!! 🐶💙💖 The smiles on the residents faces are priceless!!! Scout is smothered with love!!! Win win for all!!! 💕 May they have many wonderful years of love and happiness!!! 🙏🐶💕

Yes, our rescue dog was terrified of a raised hand, even though we were only going to stroke him gently. He got past that after a few months and is fine now. I am glad that Scout has found his true home and especially relieved that he managed to cross the road all those times without getting hit by traffic. He knew the residential home needed him and he decided to move in 🙂.

Seriously, I would've taken him on the first shelter escape! Thanks to Meadow Brook for seeing his persistence, though, and letting him stay as his presence benefits everyone. Amazing, almost inexplicable story. Interesting how he doesn't want to leave the residence, as if he was called there by his person and has now crossed over into another realm himself. Scout was someone's beloved "souldog". Now the two are there together in spirit to comfort residents, that is until he passes someday and they reunite in the afterlife. He reminds me of my own dd dogs, but I say that a lot. In any case, I hope they're w/me always in spirit as well. 💕🐾🌈🕊️

Animals bring joy and good memories. Many are highly perceptive of emotions (cats & horses too). Sounds like a bad man shot Scout with the bb’s. Thrilled the nursing home adopted precious Scout. He has a favorite couch! Love you handsome Scout-boy.

I love this on so many levels! Of course, his story of how he got there AND WAS ADOPTED BY THE FACILITY (way to go!). I also love that he isn’t ‘perfect’ (scared by storms, not friendly to stage men…and is still accepted. And that ball throwin in the hallway ~Loved that too, it really brings Life to that home.
