He's one happy turtle! I'm inspired to do a bigger set-up for my little painted turtle when she starts being active again this spring. Right now the only thing she does is bask all day and go under cover for the night. Even though she's inside and the house is heated, she still semi-hibernates over the winter and stops eating. It's going to be fun watching Stinky grow.

What a cool tank! You are so good at aquascaping please come and do a wild betta scape for me 😂 He is so cute and his derby little face just makes me say “awwwwwww” I can’t wait to see him and the scape mature 😍
@karac53373 жыл бұрын
In nature turtles have some shell algae. He is so adorable. You can definitely tell he loves his new water mansion. Minnows would be a great addition. The scape seems easy enough to catch them back out. So I say go for it. Excited to see the next update. Makes me miss my lil George. He was yellow belly slider... My sister's husband thought it'd be a good idea to get their boys a baby snapper and some kind of baby slider turtle for a coffee table aquarium. As soon as they get their well fixed, I'm taking over the turtle tank and their 55 gallon goldfish tank. Poor things have no light (at all) and turtles have no filter (even though I gave him one and he has a heat lamp). Can't convince TJ that the snapper has no place being in a habitat that small or that even the slider alone will need a bigger tank sooner rather than later... It's been over a year.. The boys don't care about them, they're not Real Ninja Turtles. TJ did finally take out all the decorative shells and put down clean sand. Which they appear happier with. I have no idea what he feeds them aside from minnows and ghost shrimps from the river.

You should buy some night crawlers/red wigglers from a petstore to feed to stinky, live worms are good enrichment/stimulation for turtles. I said a petstore because I've read that worms from bait stores can potentially have parasites as they weren't farmed with the intent of being fed to pets.

The tank looks absolutely amazing! I had a razorback musk turtle years ago and I loved him. The tank was similar to yours but I have a lot of endlers with mine. I think that would be a good choice to add because they add some color and movement, plus they breed a lot so even if he eats one every once in a while, they just repopulate. Also they love it if you get moss balls and rip them up so that they are like a flat carpet across the bottom. They like to hide under that and stick their head out like it’s a little blanket hahaha

I feed my girl Mazuri aquatic turtle diet and Fluker has a nice mixed food available called Grub Bag and it is dried shrimp, mealworms, and crickets that I feed her also. I need to get her some minnows and live snails though. I occasionally go out in the yard and dig up earthworms too and she will eat those. I just drop them in the tank and it looks like she does not want it but she will start to nip at it after a while and then bite it. By the next day the whole worm is gone. These worms are pretty big though. If you wanted to try this with your little guy I would try to find some baby earth worms if you can. It is funny when they eat them. It looks like they are eating spaghetti. LOL

I love this setup and thank you for filling the tank mostly with water. I hate when people keep mostly aquatic or fully aquatic turtle and then fill the tank only half way or less than half way. They can’t even swim in that and they are not found naturally in that shallow of water unless you find them living in a stream area. I have to redo my 40 gallon breeder for my adult stinkpot and I am going to do a Louisiana swamp theme since I live in Louisiana. The only problem I have is trying to find big cypress knees somewhere and not sure if I should go with real cypress knees or try to find some fake ones somewhere. I can’t take them from the wild unless the tree is dead and I don’t actual go out to the swamps a lot to even look for some. I love your setup though and the little guy must be having a blast. They are kind of awkward and clunky moving little turtles but they have so much personality and will be up to the glass trying to interact with you whenever you are by the tank. 🙂🐢
