On the rewatch, while being older, I weirdly appreciate the dynamic between Spleen and Bowler. He signals interest. She makes it very clear there is absolutely zero attraction on her part. But she isn't rude about it, she doesn't drag it out, just no. And he just accepts it, continues on, doesn't try to argue or make a scene. This feels like a very healthy example of rejection, which is rare to see in movies especially nowadays, and I feel has hurt a lot of peoples' perception on how to approach it from both sides.

@Banterbear 2 ай бұрын
Kitty Pryde is still visible, but I get your point, he's like a combination of intangible/invisible. I think the clothes falling off thing was more a way to explain that he is going invisible and not his clothing, which is always an odd thing with a lot of powers in the proper comics...I know they explain it away with "unstable molecules cloth" in the FF, but it's a nonsense 😂. Just quicker to have them fall off than have a big undressing scene. And his hand has to be tangible to pull the switch.

Of a similar tone is the 2001 Patrick Warburton version of THE TICK. Yeah, it’s a TV series, but they only made 9 episodes (1/2 hour) of it, and it is great fun. I love that show. Another great, short comedy series is FAWLTY TOWERS. No superheroes, but because it also has a tiny amount of episodes I always imagined that the two series could be watched intertwined so that the different styles of humor could be cooperatively palate cleansers, as humor becomes less funny if you get used to it.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen this, I forgot that Ricky Jay and Eddie Izzard were in this. Also fun fact: Heller is played by Tom Waits (yes the musician)

Why do I have the feeling we're seeing the origin of a new villain here? James K. Polka perhaps?

I saw this in the theaters twice at least. Couldn't get enough of the comedian or the great acting.

I haven't seen it mentioned in the comments yet, but this was based off the Comic series Flaming Carrot, though the character of Flaming Carrot does not appear in the movie! In the comics, Flaming Carrot is one of the founding members of the Mystery Men superhero group.

56:19 An early script had the Canned Tornado being the way they destroyed the Fraculator, but it was scrapped in favour of the Bowler doing it. The original effects done for the Canned Tornado were, however, left in, so it makes sense you asked about in about 3 seconds later.
