What a fun reaction. I'm so glad you did that. It just makes me smile, sing how you're connecting with this and applying it to whatever your life is like now and the things that you hold dear and so forth. It's really cool.

Oh the Beatles. Fan since I was 5. I was there from the very beginning. I'm so lucky I was alive during those times. So much great music. Glad young people are discovering this timeless music.✌️🌻🌻The shoot me line is prophetic. RIP JOHN & GEORGE😢✌️🌻🌻

Something, is one of my favorite Beatles songs! Love it! I listened to this song on repeat on my walkman in 1990 while lusting after a girl in Yosemite National Park.

Referenced one possible meaning of come together with togetherness which was a popular theme at that time in the late sixties. But it clearly could also be a sexual innuendo. But it didn't matter. He was really incorporating poetry into these groundbreaking songs and yet because they were the beatles, the whole compositional aspect of it, musically and everything was just fantastic and just integrated with it so well. Like in that third verse, he's suddenly referencing old blues. And this is the whole outro is definitely nothing but slide guitar hinting at Old slide Blues like maybe from the Delta or something, with Lennon doing call and answering with it. At some point George would go up to the 5th, and then up to the octave, and John tries to follow him, and then he unpredictably lays back out of it for one bar, and then comes back in later. It's just incredible all the way around.

You should react to the WHOLE side 2 of Abbey Road. The songs are vastly different, yet segue well and comes full circle at the end. Theres even a drum solo in the middle, which makes you wonder how they're gonna segue out of a drum solo

The green apple was the 'hit' side although, in this case, it was a double sided hit record.

I'm just getting ready to start the actual reaction part and it's hilarious because even though you've heard them before, now as you play that single, you will at least have a better Glimpse than ever before maybe what it was like to hear this stuff for the first time. Over the radio, and then playing these 45.

Silas, I personally like it. And I don't care if there are some now and then that you're like oh yeah, I remember why I wouldn't listen to this kind of thing at the time. But it's all just peppered together isn't it? You never know what you will get. I'm completely fine with it and I liked it.

It's really worth noting that Something was written and sung by George Harrison, who often gets left out when people talk about the songwriting greatness of Lennon and McCartney. But Harrison was a great talent, and he wrote some of the best Beatles songs (Here Comes the Sun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps). He also had a great solo career along with being part of the Traveling Wilburys. In fact, you could make the case that from the '90s on he had more hits than any solo Beatle (which really means more than McCartney, since Lennon was not around).

He wrote 3 great Beatles tracks but he was a late bloomer, his Hzrd Day Night song which was left off the album was rubbish and Only A Northern Song was left off Pepper as that was rubbish compared to the standard on the album, fortunately hecame up with Within Without you after George Martin said write so -something better!!!!

The lyrics "Shoot me" I never really heard that way either. Rather Ironic line coming from John I suppose. Frank Sinatra himself, NOT a fan of rock music, proclaimed "Something" as the greatest love song ever written. High praise.

I think he said it was his favorite Lennon/McCartney song. Oops

Silas - it might be well worth checking the value of some of these singles. I would have thought that this particular Beatles double-sided single could well be a collector’s item, especially if it’s an original copy. Look at the date on the label, because if it states a late 1960’s or early 1970’s date, then it may be quite valuable. No guaranties of course, but still worth checking out.

🎼Chapman did what Lennon said. “Shoot me…” And that was a sad day for all of us “boomers.” Silas? There was never a band of musicians quite like the Beatles. Harrison stepped out to be heard with “Something” and showed how great he was. Damn I feel old these days. Especially when I see you react to these classic tunes. 🎼

PS. 25K is getting up there. Keep going. Do several shows hitting albums like Abbey Road. It’s a classic. So is the White Album (2 LPs).

Don’t feel bad. Even 40 year olds are stereotyped as ignorant “boomers” to the younger generations. Hey it’s their loss. They don’t know how good we had it, with the exception of Silas.

I knew a drummer , Bobby Graham , who turned down playing for the Beatles when they discarded Pete Best in 1962. I once asked him why he turned down The Beatles ; his reply was that as someone from London he did not want to play with a bunch of scousers (people from Liverpool)....Bobby went on to have a long and successful career as a session musician , appearing on 15,000 songs before his death in 2009. It would have been interesting if he had joined as Bobby was described by Shel Talmy (producer of the Who , the Kinks and David Bowie) as the greatest drummer Britain ever produced.
You should definitely react to Abbey Road. Even better, just do a Beatles’ journey and react to all the albums and singles. Just watching you on this reaction, I can see that a focused listen caused you to hear things in the songs that you hadn’t heard or didn’t remember. That’s the case for all of us as we listen to Beatles’ songs again and again with fresh ears and open minds. I’d also encourage you to rate the songs, even if you already feel that you know them. I found myself disappointed that you didn’t rate Come Together and Something, like you did for the other Mystery Music Monday songs. Great reaction overall, as always.

John's lyrics were purposely obscure. War, Sex, Drugs, Guns, his Rock 'N Roll Idols, Bandmates and Yoko all in the mix along with distractions and pure nonsense. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" has only about a dozen unique words, so go figure.
