Great song! A lot of people have speculated that "You're So Vain" is about the actor Warren Beatty. Carly Simon had so many great hits in the 70's such as "Haven't Got Time For The Pain", "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be", "Attitude Dancing", "Anticipation", "Coming Around Again", "Nobody Does It Better" (from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me), "Jesse", "Legend In Your Own Time", "The Right Thing To Do", "(We Have) No Secrets" etc. She was married at one time to James Taylor & they did a few duets together "Mockingbird" & "Devoted To You".

There's been speculation around various names....one of which was even Mick Jagger, who provided backup vocals on the studio track.

Great reaction, Sarah! ❤ This song just blew people away when they first heard it. The general consensus has been that it was about Hollywood actor Warren Beatty. That line about him being predictably and commonly found with "the wife of a close friend" is just searing commentary. You will enjoy taking a deep dive with Ms. Simon. 👍😊

Thank You Sarah! Carly Simon suffered from performance anxiety, she stopped performing live because of it. The video that you watched was from her first concert after many years, it was shot in the town that she lived in, the audience was mostly close friends and locals. Don't listen to it too much; you might find yourself singing it more often than is needed. It's a great song, one I grew up with. But it belongs more to my big sister's and brother's generation, than my own.

I don't think it really matters who it is specifically about...most guys if they were really honest have probably had that thought at times that maybe they were being a bit too VAIN... but certainly not at this level!?

You can tell that this is largely a lip-synched performance. One can still hear Mick Jagger in there. But echo has been added and they are presenting it as though it were fully live.

It was about an ex, James Taylor. Probably not the best reason to write music. Celebrities should never be idolized. I loved James Taylor's music, but I don't idolize them.
