Nice, thorough review! I picked up the Mystery Ranch 3 Way Briefcase in Wood Waxed and fell in love with it… the texture, the weight, the organization are second to none. Your review of it is solid too. I travel constantly for work, more driving than flying, and it just has a very different, distinct vibe. I don’t know anyone else who has one and I get asked about it all the time. Loved it so much that I looked at and considered the 45L Rover. Checked out your comparison video with it and ordered it to match in Wood Waxed, it’ll be here in a couple of days. You helped me make the decision to get the Rpver in that video and confirmed the choice with this vid. Mystery Ranch isn’t cheap but I’ve been carrying the briefcase for a couple of months I’m convinced that the Rover will wear well going in and out of the car covering 5 States. This stuff is addictive! I’m gonna have to take a look at the smaller organizing bags now. Thanks for the thorough reviews!

Any updates on how you like the Rover? Like you, I've been carrying the three-way for a while now and happened to see this video and became interested. I usually carry the 3-way briefcase with a GoRuck GR1 Shooter. Any advice?

The flaps are designed to open outward so you could have both compartments open at the same time giving full access. If they were back to back the flaps would interfere with each other and could only have one side open.

@@KendrickDischCreative I haven't been able to see the Escape in real life to make a good comparison. The KZbin guys that reviewed it didn't do a good job. I've been lucky so far with my traveling and not having a check bag get "lost".

I just got this bag delivered today. I like the look of it. At the end of the day it's still a backpack and I think this would pair well with a duffle bag if you had to cary more things. The compartments are nice. I haven't yet seen how much stuff I can pack in it.

@@KendrickDischCreative I was looking at the mountain hardware camp tough duffle bags. Do you have any experience with them? I'm looking for a new one to upgrade my old under armor bag that I've had for years.

I have only tried one Mountain Hardware bag and that was a really long time ago. It was a small camera bag and I was disappointed in the way the straps were designed. I know that is of no help. Great point about the "mis-oriented" mesh dividers inside the bag. I guess you could try to stuff it in the media compartment (if it's like a windbreaker), or just stuff it in the cavity between the clamshell sides, without opening the mesh. But it is annoying those flaps weren't oriented the other direction.

Probably because if they were the other way around you could not have both flaps open at the same time when the bag is open and laying flat like a suitcase. They would bunch up in the middle where now they each lay on the outside of the bag. Just a guess

Do you feel the 45L version is large enough for a week long trip? I'm trying to decide between the 45L and 60+L.

well that all comes down to the person doing the traveling. In January I just went on a 5-day trip with just a personal item, so anything is possible. I've also traveled a lot with the Mission Rover now and it is pretty big and should be able to fit a ton of stuff. But I'll also say that most of my travel is airline travel so I'm restricted to about 45L anyway unless I want to start checking bags, which in that case, why not take a bigger bag? Most recently I took the 45L Mission Rover on a week-long trip and used the messenger strap as a way to carry it, and boy oh boy that was a heavy bag. I wouldn't want to carry it very far like that. So i think the 60L wouldn't be too much fun to carry around. Report back on what you decide! Cheers!

Thank you for a great review. Was going to purchasing this pack as the quality of mystery ranch. I am a large man a former powerlifer at 6ft and 210lbs large chest. Those backpacking straps would be an issue for me. As you said they need to mounted higher up and the padding area longer. I use packing cubes so not sure of that. Would prefer straps instead zip in. Every thing else looks. Maybe exterior compression straps.
