I like the laptop in the front away from all my cubes, easy to pull out for security. When you fly internationally every connection you have to deboard and go through security, it's a PITA! I travelled to Europe recently with a laptop next to my back and I had to remove my packing cubes, pull out my laptop and put my cubes back in, would have much preferred this carry method!

Good point, it needs to have good weight distribution plus easy access.

Great and thorough review. I have chosen a more simple and light weight bag after trying on a few bags with a lot of different compartments etc. I just found that I rarely packed the way the bag was designed to be packed out. Still appreciate the quality of this offering from Mystery Ranch.

I agree-I've unpicked and removed quite a few of the internal doodad compartments, which has saved me a bit of weight and packing space.

Also agree, it's difficuilt for the bag company to anticipate how a bag will be used, because everyone carries different gear and packs it differently.

The airline spec variability does make one bag packing quite tricksy. I would love to find that one magic bag that would work in all planes!

My solution is to just put it in the overhead if my underseat space is too small 🤷‍♀️

We have both the 30L and 45L rover bags and while agree with some of your cons, so far they've worked really well for us for car road trips, and train travel, overnights and long weekends. Haven't flown with them yet as they're usually longer trips and we end up defaulting to our standard luggage. I know the 30L is a decent domesric carry-on but what are your thoughts on the 45L as a carry-on? I've read some people have reported being able to.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 5 ай бұрын
I don't usually carry 45L packs, unless it has really good carry system, I think at that size it's almost better to just get a standard rolling lugge.

I used this as a personal item on a flight from state to state but I wonder if it would work on an international flight

@@OneBagTravels As a under the seat personal item?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels Жыл бұрын
@@rammyissa Technically it's a little large to count as an under the seat personal item. So it likely won't fit in the sizer, however I was able to fit it under the seat on some of my flights (kzbin.info/www/bejne/roCWaXWbfJZ4Y6c). So yes, it coud probably fit under the seat, but if the gate-check counter called you out, you may have to pay the fee.

I love the comfort of Mystery Ranch bags but this is just too heavy for me. Could I get some lighter suggestions from you similar to this one? I can only think of Cabin Zero Adv Pro 32 or Military 36.

Rover is heavy, some other packs under 3 lbs with similar capacity check out the MEC Outpost, ULA Dragonfly, Topo Global Carry 30, Tom Bihn Aero or Techonaut 30, Thule Aion, REI Ruckpack, Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC (currently testing this one and it's great, huge capacity and easy to pack), Able Carry Daybreaker 2 (25L).
@lvchubby
@lvchubby Жыл бұрын
@@OneBagTravels I'm checking out some of them thanks to your videos which are so useful. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on some of them and some are already sold out. While Daybreaker 2 is great for a lightweight bag, I hope it was a bit bigger for travel use. The Adv Pro 32 and Mini MLC are currently high on my wishlist but I have to wait for the latter to restock.

@@lvchubby Mini MLC is very popular and has been sold out for awhile. I'd put your name on their notice list if you want it because it sells out quickly once it comes back into stock.

@@OneBagTravels It's so nice of you but I don't live in the US, and I'm still a bit hesitate about the big brand name on their packs😅 I'm not hurry to get one so I'll keep searching other bags as well. Thanks for your offering.

Excited to see your Mini MLC review when it comes out! Seems like a lot of people are liking it. What do you think of it as a personal item? Fit in the box okay? Little worried about it being a bit bulky to EDC compared to the CPL24 or Cabinzero

The mystery ranch website says there is a hip belt. Any idea why this bag doesn't have one? I'm looking to buy one but this might be a deal breaker.

The 45 and 60L have a waist strap, but not the 30L. The website isn't very clear about this and it's not apparent in the photos.

I’d rather have the laptop closer to my back to avoid the weight pulling down the pack. I like Mystery Ranch but this bag has some poor design choices. Too many other good options out there.

I view you a volgger that travels a lot to Europe, mostly western Europe and her husband is an airline pilot and she has came across the smaller liquids bag. I do not travel to western Europe especially France is a no way. The med countries I visit. Live in Asia now. Carry-on weights is restricted on Asian airlines and I refuse to travel on USA brand airlines.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up, I'll keep my eye open for any changes to liquids bags.

Don't understand all the idiots that have to carry a laptop. A tablet is lighter and smaller and with a Bluetooth key board works great which I do. The Rover 30 would be great with hip belt and water bottle side pockets. Many airlines restricting carry-on sizes. Special on European airlines and New Zealand has. The weights of carry-on on foreign carriers is down to 7kg/15 lbs. Do understand the use of wheeled hard side bags as carry-on as they weigh 7+ lbs empty. On USA domestic airlines it may not be an issue. Some of the European airlines are decreasing the size of the liquids bags.

Depends what you're doing with it, but for most casual travel a laptop isn't necessary. I don't usually carry mine, but I would need a laptop to run my video editing software. If you do remote work or any kind of programming where you need to run multiple systems would probably need one as well. I haven't heard about any changes in European liquids rules, but it would be unfortunate if they shrunk the bag size.
