For anyone on the fence about the water bottle pockets, they are tight, but a 1 liter Smart Water bottle will fit pretty easily even with the bag loaded out.

That's a real good bag for the money, sucks about the water bottle pockets, they were more concerned with having a streamlined design
@morsumbra96923 жыл бұрын
Its a terrible bag for the money!! You can buy a REI flash backpack And a Timbuk2 spire backpack(on sale albeit) for the SAME PRICE. And then you have 2 bags actually good at what they're suppose to do. Vs this bullshit "tactical" fashion. Mystery ranch bags are for rich schoolkids thinking they're different from the kids that got Gucci bags.

@@morsumbra9692 I use mystery ranch while on duty. It's built 10x thougher than those cheap brands. Quality doesn't come cheap but you probly don't push yourself or your gear as hard as the brand intended it to.

@@morsumbra9692 Mystery ranch made bags in early 2000s but weren't available to civilian distributors. Navy Seals are issued those, some other specialised units too. Thoughness is needed when we carry 100 000$ worth of equipment.

Exterior water bottle pockets are incredibly important! The height of the pocket is right, but the lack of stretch and volume needs to be re-designed, depending if you want to carry a 16 oz or 32 oz water bottle.

Indeed an awesome pack, and VERY comfortable when loaded up. I picked it up for only $106 during a Black Friday sale at Huckberry and have no regrets besides the color; had to settle for blue because green and gray sold out first, but it's growing on me. My only gripes are similar to yours: 1) wish the waterbottle pockets were elastic, 2) the zippers are still a little stiff so I can't quickly rip it open like the RipRuck, and 3) I wish it came with a better way to tuck the long straps out of the way. I don't like being a "strap monster", or cutting them short, so I've made do by just wrapping them up around the foam shoulder strap and back through the chest strap adjustment loops to keep it in place. Looks messy, but it works.

Great review, George. I've had mine for about 9 months, and it is a regular part of my pack rotation. I mostly use this pack around town, so I carry two (slim) 24-oz water bottles in the outside pockets. And, like you, I really like the 'gray man' look.
@sivur3 жыл бұрын
Great review! Got one of these on black friday and I absolutely love it. It hits the sweet spot for big enough EDC and big enough for one bag travel. I managed to slip in 4 eagle creek packing cubes in this (1 medium, two small, and one xs). There is still room for a dopp kit, the bellroy classic pouch goes up top and the laptop goes in the laptop compartment. It would then be fully packed out but with enough clothes for about two weeks. With access to laundry you don't really need more!

Great review, George. I really appreciate that you show some of the items that you carry because it really helps to understand what will fit in these bags. Before the holidays, Huckberry had a great deal on this pack and I picked it up for my daily carry. I was trying to find something to organize my tech stuff and was looking at the PowerShuttle mini, but wanted something that had less internal pockets. I went with the Thule Paramount. Really nice pouch and it fits in one of those wing pockets similar to the PowerShuttle.

C.R.E.A.M. Get the money. Dolla. Dolla Bill, y'all.\X/. Nice bag, but the three zippers to access the main compartment would throw me off for awhile tho. Also, Mystery Ranch should include different colored zipper pull cords so you could distinguish between the top zippers and vertical zipper in low light. The water bottle pockets dont bother me, because I carry my water bottles inside my packs. $165 ducketts for what that bag is designed for, should stand up on its own. Thanks for sharing, and Happy New Year's. One.

George Defined you had me ready to get the 2 Day Assault, now you say this replaces it? OK your caveat is it replaces it in a city/urban environment. The two appear very much alike besides the webbing and bigger outside pockets on the 2 Day. What do you see as the main strength (if any) of this Urban 24 over the 2 Day? Would you put the Urban 24 in your top three rankings? Thx!

I've posted a similar question on another channel as well, but would really like your input as we seem to share a similar likes/dislikes in bags. I think I've watched every Mystery Ranch review you have done amongst a long list of other bags you've reviewed. So which Mystery Ranch (or other brand) would you ultimately suggest for an EDC bag to carry a 13" MacBook, large iPad, Bible, notepad, pens, chargers, cables, sunglasses, snacks etc.A sleeve for a Bible would be preferred though I can get a case for it to keep the pages from getting damaged as the bag is tossed around. I really like the GORUCK GR2 26L but I really hate the price. If Recycled Firefighter had a GR2 style I'd probably go for that using organizing pouches. Any help would be appreciated. At this point I've watched so many reviews that I can't decide on anything haha

The side pockets on the Mystery Ranch EDC packs frustrate me to no end. I don't understand why they don't use the mesh they put on their hiking packs. Otherwise, the build quality and comfort in their EDC packs is tough to beat.

i've to replace my TNF MICROBYTE for daily work at office. this is a bit larger but the pc sleeve outside isn't bad. still i'm trying to understand if the main compartment is ok for me. i'd at least would add some bungee string in the front for a wet jacket but in this case it is not possible. 21l i think would be too small. unfortunately there is no way to see a real one in my city

Sucks I've looked up trizips too late. As of 10/23/23, I can no longer find the Mystery Ranch Urban Assault 24 Trizip backpack because now its seemingly been replaced with a the Mystery Ranch Catalyst 26 Trizip and it's honestly a direct downgrade because the bottom zipper no longer goes all the way to the bottom and the water bottle holders are too shallow.

@FoxtrotGear3 жыл бұрын
I have the Assault 24 but it needs to be slightly larger for a grey man bug out bag. If the bag had larger side pockets that didn't take up the volume inside I would be all for it. What other bags give you the same strength and allow pathfinder water bottles on the side without sacrificing space? Thinking a 27L to 28L bag would be ideal. I purchased the Vertx Gamut 2.0 and thinking thats my next best option. Just wish Mystery Ranch made the Assault in a 28L with larger pockets (no molly or hidden molly). Their Rip Ruck small was too small and the larger was just too large.

@@GeorgeDEFINED One more question for you. Does the MR Coulee 25 hold a little more than the Assault 24? I noticed you reviewed that one and was curious on it. I ultimately prefer bucket packs the most because if the zipper ever gets destroyed you literally lost one of your most valuable tools. Any bucket style packs that would match my criteria you would recommend? BTW anytime I find a bag I like I have noticed you have done a review on it - good job. You should really think about indexing these reviews on a website so that we can search through the reviews and compare the bags/stats. Most of the retail websites don't have the ability to filter by exact liters I am looking for.

Gonna be the devils advocate here. The average civilian doesn't know what mlok is or that it has a connection to tactical gear or military stuff. I think the entire term grey man is kind of stupid because of that. Unless your wearing a helmet, armour, holding a rifle, or covering your stuff in tons of military patches and moral patches most people wouldn't notice you anymore then anyone else. Just use whatever gives you the most capabilities that you need for the best price. If you don't need mlok or want mlok then honestly there are better actual civilian bags then the ones mystery ranch makes for far cheaper.
