Overall, this was good, however you left out two pretty big things. One, Murphy wasn't the voice of Tom Servo at KTMA and the first season of MST3K: Josh Weinstein provided the voicework for that (you even played a clip of him at the end). You also said Bill Corbett was the voice of Crow T. Robot, which entirely misses how Trace Beaulieu was Crow's voice from KTMA through season 7. I'm afraid I'm going to have to sentence ScreenCrush to 24 hours of watching Manos: The Hands of Fate.

You kind of forgot to mention the messed-up way they were screwed by the network. You see, when Comedy Central bought out The Comedy Channel, MST3K was Comedy Channel's flagship show, and their head honcho made sure to renew then for 3 more seasons as part of the deal. Despite it garnering huge ratings, the folks in charge hated supporting someone else's idea and canned the show as soon as possible. In fact, to this day whenever Comedy Central does a retrospective, they completely ignore the show that kept the company afloat during its troubled beginnings. This famously led to the resignation of Penn Gillette (of Penn & Teller fame) as the network's announcer.

Brendan Eichler and when Sci-Fi channel picked it up they were only allowed to show sci-fi, horror, and fantasy movies. Which fortunately does make up a good majority of cheesy movies but it did limit them still IMHO

Just before its height of popularity, I remember getting VIP tickets for a friend and myself for a live screening. Taped every episode, even the ones on KTMA. Good times.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority, but I never cared for the skits. I just wanted to see the riffing. I feel the same way about alot of KZbin reviewers who put skits around their review. Sometimes they're funny, more often they're not, and none of them are usually as entertaining as the review/riff itself.

jliller I agree. They have their good ones, but I think the majority just didn't land in comparison to the riffing. I do think the skits got better in the later seasons though.

The riffs are why I watch but the skits have always been hit or miss. They are usually pretty short though.

I guess I not only think I know a lot about the show, but apparently know quite a lot more than the makers of this video. :P Bill Corbin was Crow's replacement voice after Trace left, no mention of the first Mad before TV's Frank. For a while Tom Servo had a different shaped head and I could go on and on. I'm from Minnesota and grew up watching the show and when Joel left the show it took me some time to warm up to Mike, but they are both great in the long run. I actually started crying when I started watching the first episode of the new show, just thinking about all the devotion going into bringing it back and stuff got to me. I hope it's a hit again.

Yes, every casual fan knows that after the show was sold to Comedy Central, they were given $35K dollars per episode, and that the new seasons were started in early 2016 after a Kickstarter that was the largest for television and film. Common knowledge, really.

My all time favorite episodes are a mix of Joel and Mike shows. I get that some folks have a preference, but they both brought something good to the show. The revival seasons were hit or miss at best though.

Was that first live show really in 1989? I was there for what I thought was the first live show where they did "World Without End" and I seem to remember it was more like summer of early fall of 1992 ... can't remember exactly. And I'm not talking about the Conventioconexpofestarama which was in what 1993 or 94? Sorry, the early 90s are kind of fuzzy for me ... :)Regardless, I'm pretty sure it was not in 1989 unless there was some super secret live show before the show even got popular and it was only shown in Minneapolis.

Yup and it's also why me and my wife won't watch it. They don'thave any excuses for fucking upo so badly. They ev en gave it an overly complicated plot which it never needed before. The plot was always barely perceptiable it was so thin. You can't take a show with no budget, give it a budget then use that money to make porofessional looking sets and props that are professionally made to look crappy and home made. it doesn't work.

In the not too dis-tant fu-ture, next Sun-day A.D. There was a guy named Joel, who wasn't that fun-ny. Mike was way better. He didn't talk in a droll, monotone, half asleep sounding voice. And he didn't stand up/reach out to "touch the screen" as much as Joel did. And the other hosts?....not worth mentioning. Season 13 sucks. Crow's voice sounds like it belongs on a show made for 2yr. olds to watch. So annoying.

Yeah, I guess that’s why Mike’s run lasted for about nine seasons while Joel’s “resurrection” didn’t last nearly as long. Mike haters/Joel shills can make of that what what they want to or whatever makes them feel better, but I think that speaks for itself.
