The jokes aside, this is all actually really good advice that they don't teach much anymore. I started high school in 04, and this was never taught in any meaningful way.

Don't be too quick to blame the educational system. They correctly figured giving you that advice was useless, inasmuch as by 2024 your 2004 dollar would shrink to about 34 cents.
