When I left my previous company (London) in May 2012, they asked me what do you want? I jokingly said PS3 because I knew I wouldn't get it as leaving gifts are mostly £50. My manager told the CEO and CEO said is he a kid, my manager replied it's for video game programming. lol The next day my manager said let's go and went to Sainsbury with me and bought me a PS3 that was wow moment in my life. May god bless my manager :) My wife bought me a PS4. My uncle got me PS2. I have always gotten Playstation as a gift somehow, lucky me :)

Lucky for me that i still enjoy the mighty ps3 nowdays. My first i bought in 2007 and it is still with me. Unfortunatly she boots UP and it shuts down, but it isnt the ylod. If i insist many times she eventualy turns on, but after i try some game she shuts down. If i listen música or watch vídeos she doesnt go down. I dont know what is. And i think the blueray drive also has some problem. Anyway, when that start to happen, i was just to much envolved with the system, because of my multimédia contente, and the online features and great games. I have to bought another one, but this time arround, i wanted a trully imaculate console condition. Since 2007 till nowdays my phat ps3 is working extremely fine and i bought another one in 2013 wich is also hooked to my LCD HD TV. The same happen with my original 2005 360. Red ring. Just in 2011 i bought the slim 250gb. I have 2 with kinect. Also hooked UP to my TV. Working like New and the fans for all system including my ps2s, dreamcasts etc are very clean and make no noise at all. That is because when you like your stuff and it costs you money and time, you should take much care of it, if you want to play games, forever.

The Cell processor was originally for the PlayStation 4. As stated in the statement at 0:57. And I remember Sony saying the chipset for the PS3 was already developed before the Cell announcement. So they abandoned the original chipset for the PS3 and implemented the Cell chipset instead.
@GrayFoxGamingHD4 жыл бұрын
Leader X it makes sense. Cell was way ahead of its time , only now developers are starting to get a hold of heterogeneous computing. I always wondered if Sony could bring that chip out of retirement for certain tasks. Apparently it has a theoretical peak of 1 teraflop , which was amazing for 2005 and still Pretty capable for things like audio/video processing and also certain particle/physics calculations. I guess Sony somehow used that knowledge with the tempest engine , which sort or acts like a cell SPE , utilising a GPU compute unit instead.
@leaderx75474 жыл бұрын
@@GrayFoxGamingHD The problem with the Cell processor is that it was too expensive to be used in most commercial products, including game consoles. I'm surprised Sony didn't release some laptops or PCs with the Cell processor. That's where it would have been best used in the commercial sector.
@princegroove4 жыл бұрын
That was pretty ambitious of them, although it’s a shame that its potential wasn’t fully utilized in PS3; partitioned memory and an underpowered GPU really bottlenecked an almost perfect gaming device.
@rockyramsy4 жыл бұрын
Cell processor was an engineering masterpiece. Problem is that it was released too early and developers only started to fully appreciate it and understand how to deal with it at the end of 7th generation. It would have been so nice to see a third option beside Intel and AMD.

I also remember on the first week being disappointed how much it was on par (being light on the matter) with a much more affordable Xbox 360. Couldn’t find Blu-Ray movies to buy or rent and not to mention the situation with ports. And that’s how the relationship started to fade. It had to me the same feel of unboxing a MacBook or something like that without the productivity part, it was just a flawed movie/game box (OtherOS sucked without full GPU acceleration).

Pretty good vid. One problem I have, though, is that Sony did not try to pass off those vids as actual gameplay. Their wording before they showed it at E3 was that these were target renders of what they hoped the PS3 could produce. I'd like to see links to where PR tried to say they were actual gameplay, cause you don't show that in your vid. And one has to remember that this was a time when Sony was scrambling for a GPU, because their Cell as both CPU and GPU didn't work out. Sony was upset because they felt Nvidia underdelivered on the RSX, and haven't worked with them since for a PS system. It'll also be interesting if in a few years time we start getting a bunch of vids talking about what MS did this gen to cover up the power difference between the PS4 and XBO, create fake playable demos running on more powerful HW than the actual XBO. Even taking the fake Forza demo on national TV, on Jimmy Fallon, and let him play it. Not talking about you specifically, since you mainly do PS stuff, but something tells me DF aren't going to devote a long video to that like they did the PS3 target vids. MS pays them too much for that.

I know I'm a year late but when I was growing up as a almost 9 year old kid seeing the PS3 blew me away in 2006. My family was a PlayStation kind of family since my dad had the original fat PS1 that would overheat in 6 hours he told me. Then we got the fat PS2 in 2001? Or 2003 which I still have today. Man going to Circuit City all the time and just playing the demo PS3 Motorstorm game all the time just always blew me away before the console was launched. But talking about the PS3 for a minute, I remember seeing it in the catalogs in November 2006 and showing my parents it, we didn't get it on launch day but we got it I think a few days or a week after launch. From what my mom has told me is that we went down to the BX store at the Air Force Base and just to see if they had any, they actually did and I think my parents spent like $800? We got the 60GB, with another PS3 controller, Resistance Fall of Man and Motorstorm. It was just amazing having a PS3 finally, we hardly got to play it at first cause we didn't really have any "kid friendly" games other than Motorstorm and the rule was at the time between me and my sister if we had any friends over and we we're on it we had to get off. I was the only friend who had a PS3 until 2011, man I was given so much crap and shit in middle school because everyone had a 360 and I had a PS3 but I didn't care really cause I loved the PS3. As the years went by after the terrible PS3 launch and how the games looked, they only got better as the years went on and quite a lot of those games won Game of the Year.

minor note: "hardware-based" is still emulation, just hardware-based emulation. It may use the same EE chip that the PS2 used but there's still a lot of other hardware/software integration needed to make it all work within the PS3.
@Stoppskylten4 жыл бұрын
There were three different levels to this, and I would certainly call the first one actually native running. The extra path of the render through the PS3 parts can not really be considered part of the emulating. It was only with the second generation systems that it was partially emulated. And it was actually the EE that was removed. The GS was the more complicating factor remaining. The third ones had no hardware support at all, and very low compatibility because of it.

The PS3 recording is a bit reflected in some games supporting remote play I suppose. Since the video encoding was being done for that anyway, so also recording that would be the easy part. Though, I guess maybe those early 60 or even 20GB made it seem a detrimental waste of space. It could also be the addition of the dedicated GPU was another issue as the encoding would be made back an SPU.

Man I remember those days. I was one of those blind Playstation fanboys that kept defending the indefensible lol Still, despite Sony getting my unearned loyalty, sticking with them payed off eventually. I clearly remember Sony finally taking the PS3's poor reception seriously around 2009-2010. They slashed the PS2 chipset to release the cheaper and sleaker PS3 Slim along with a new PS3 logo. And from that point on they would push wave after wave of high quality games. A trend they still stick by to this day. In retrospect it's really neat to step back and notice how the competition between Sony, MS and Nintendo brought out the best in them. The 7th gen was a fun ride.

I'm honestly not so sure the real-time claims were a lie. Everyone always says that but if you look at Killzone 2 side-by-side with the trailer, visually it looks extremely similar. The main difference is that it was clearly a scripted sequence, not actual gameplay.

Companies must determine what it is the consumer will want 5+ years down the road or risk becoming irrelevant when they are not prepared for changing demand.

I have heard that ps5 is actually like switch, it has 10.3 only when is docked and the other mode is 1080p. That would be very cool to see.

11:29 well it has WiFi, a 60gb hard drive vs 20gb or no hd and online doesn't cost $60 a year. I will die on this hill. The Playstation 3 was not overpriced. The consumer market is stupid. If you buy something that costs 399 but can't connect to the internet without a 100 adapter and a 60 a year membership it doesn't cost 399 it costs 559.... For the record I did have an Xbox 360 at the time. Halo 2 online sold me on it.

Anyone know why you would have THREE ethernet-ports on a console?... Would that be for something like passthrough or using it as a router or perhaps networking with other devices?... It would be so overkill for just feeding the console data, though, considering most PC motherboards even just have one or two ethernet-ports. - But again, maybe they were thinking of interlinking multiple devices or something, since that's how you'd basically hook up some devices in the past as well. And perhaps Wi-Fi wasn't really set in stone for it yet?...
