Very thankful for this channel as I’ve progressed tremendously. I started to add swimming to my daily exercise regimen after my run and resistance training sessions. When I began a month ago swimming 50 yds freestyle would have me winded all because I was doing things incorrectly. It frustrated me greatly cause I feel I had a solid cardio and endurance base from running. Bad habits that I did I included holding my breath, lifting my head to breathe, and looking to the other end of the pool. Today I swam 2 miles or 3600 yds and I broke it into 3 1000 yd swims and then 2 300s. It was difficult but I finished feeling great even though I was physically tired.

On breathing, I noted during both the European Olympic trials and the US trials, a difference in breathing patterns between the men and women. The women were breathing on a 2, 2, 4 strokes, or on a 3 strokes, and the men, pretty much exclusively were using the gallop style and breathing every other stroke. There were a few women who did the gallop style. Then, the last 10 to 15 yards/meters, their armstroke became that windmill style, and no breath. I have a lap pal who trains older swimmers. He is a big fan of 200 yard interval sets. I have to get back in shape for that, but the pools are all open again, if they can find enough life guards.

You can slow down the speed yourself. On the top right hand corner of the video there are three dots. You might have to touch the screen to see them. Touch the dots. A menu will pop down. Select playback speed, it will show up with various options. It is preset to normal. If you select one such as 0.75 or lower, it slows the speed of the video. Most videos have this option, as well. You can choose to turn captions on, which will provide translation, if available in your language.

Thanks for the video Is it 1:10 rest after the first 6x50 or after each 50m of the first set
@FaresKsebati Жыл бұрын
Good question! 1:10 is how much time you have to do an entire 50, rest included. So if you swim a 50m in 50 seconds, you have 20 seconds to rest before the next 50. But if you swim a 50m in 1 minute, you only have 10 seconds to rest before the next one! Hope this helps :)
