Excellent work Andy, I bought a Chromecast something like 4 yrs ago but never used it , had put the device away somewhere not sure how to set it up,... Finally the other day I decided to put it to use and. your tutorial was just what I needed. Is there a way to bypass needing a WiFi network and using you're smartphone's own data connection with out relying on a WiFi network? I have my phone's WiFi set to communicate with chromecast but for now I don't have any WiFi in my house and was hoping to just be able to use my phone's own data network. Any help on this?

Michael Hollenbeck I think that's possible as long as your phone has the capability of being a WiFi hotspot, but if you do go that route be aware that it will use up a lot of your data so make sure you have unlimited data on your cellular plan. Also you'll want to make sure you have a strong 4G or LTE connection if you want to be able to stream video with no lag.

Hello and thanks for the video! My problem is that after watching some KZbin videos, I wanted to go back to TV. I disconnected Chrome Cast from my phone but it won't give me any control to the TV. The remote won't work and trying the menu from the TV won't work either. My regular input port is HDMI1 and Chrome Cast is in HDMI2 slot. Do I need to just unplug the Chrome Cast stick from the back of the TV in order to watch the television? Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

dmcite No you shouldn't have to remove the Chromecast from the TV. You should have control of the TV like normal after disconnecting via your phone. Not sure why it's doing that.

Oo2k10 The extension only works with the Chrome browser on a computer. It's not necessary on a tablet or smartphone because the individual apps have the chromecast feature built-in.

Nice quick rundown, but I'm trying to figure out how to set up the TV Queue for Chromecast. Do I need KZbin Red? Can I set up a queue and have it download for watching later? I have slow WiFi and get lots of buffering pauses. Do you have suggestions for these issues?

Are you talking about a KZbin queue? You should be able to do that with the normal free KZbin app.

I have a Samsung series 5 TV. For some reason when I go to the App Store on my TV it does not show an app for SLING TV (when I go to the App Store on my other Samsung tv which is series 6 TV, there is an app for Sling TV). So I’ve been googling trying to find out why I can’t get the app. I did find out that I can add the app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5. But, I have been trying to figure out how to do it for about two weeks. I am so frustrated. Could you please help me figure out how to add the Sling TV app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5 TV? Yes but you will need another device to set it up initially (another phone, tablet, or laptop) then you can cast from the phone using its own hotspot feature.

Yes the casting icon appears only in apps that support Chromecast but the casting icon only appears when you are connected to the same WiFi as your Chromecast. I hope that makes sense.

Andy, by the way, NETFLIX Shows on my wife's tablet, but when you open it up, the rectangular box is missing with the curves on the lower right hand corner. So, following your instructions that you provided on your video: a. Make sure tablet is connected to wife network (which it is); b. Open compatible app like Netflix (which it is); c. Tap on Rectangular box with the curves in the lower right hand corner (there isn't a rectangular box (but there was when we watched NetFlix in January). Thus, we can't go any further. P.S. I disconnected the Chrome Cast device from our 48" Sony Bravia TV and, then re-plugged it in as you stated and, the name of what my daughter named it to be, shows on the screen. But that's the extent of it. Might just have to wait 8-more months until she returns to see what the issue is, as I sure don't know.

Hi, I have google fiber, and when I saw this chromecast on sale at Best Buy I thought that I needed it.I followed the instructions, but when it got to the connect screen it just sat there. I messed around with it for a couple hours and got frustrated with it and took it back to Best Buy. So what I find interesting is that now my tv and cell phone now does what I thought chromecast was suppose to do.I know that google fiber has so,e of these functions built into their setup. Could there have been a conflict with the two? Your thoughts

caramelgoddess89 You could use a 3G/4G/LTE hotspot. Just make sure it has good service and fast download speed. But usually hotspots charge more for the data you use, and if you're streaming a lot of video you may surpass your data limit easily with a hotspot. You could just cancel your cable but keep your internet. That would be easier.

Yea you need wifi to connect the chromecast to your phone but I'm sure theres a device where you can connect to your TV via bluetooth. Try searching on Google about it.
