Karue - I have followed your progress since your decision to return to professional play. What I'm seeing is your ability to recognize the situation, your ability to cover the court, and your ability to recognize the incoming ball and get to it soon enough to actually be able to direct it strategically have all increased substantially. This indicates you're assessing your weaknesses accurately and doing the work. Good stuff!! I hope you continue to improve.

I think you were mild when saying those Yonex balls in the cold are hard... No, they are rocks!! So bad! I moved to Chile after playing 3.5yrs in sunny and humid Panama. Got there in the winter. I felt all the tennis balls so so heavy and hard, plus the clay, was frustrating. Actually stopped playing, Chileans are pretty good and dominate their clay. You have to know when you need to step down 😅

Your economy of movement betrays your ability to 'see' so much. He moved well didn't he, he had to move well, you made him move well, you kind of lifted his game. That's a compliment. 18:20 That's a very interesting statement. It seems that everytime you stand inside waiting for a short ball, even a no-pace with a small amount of topspin kicks you neutral and prevents taking ground. Perhaps clay or perhaps court positioning. But all the incoming shots that had no spin, backspin, or you waited baseline to have momentum into the short ball, you managed to approach through pretty well

Great game to watch. Some good tennis. The key here is psychology this is the real difference, of course there might be some difference in the skill level but it looks actually a very small difference. In performance psychology we use a technique that we call wins for success. In its simple format its based on the research around winning and that the more you win the more likely you are to win in an up coming match. The brain like winning so the idea is that you create your own wins in training, in practice and then in the matches. The key is to start off with setting win goals you can achieve easy and you build up the level. It could be walking faster to a certain point on the court when walking beside someone. They have no clue you are trying to beat them, but guess who knows your brain and your brain does not care where the win come from as long as you have told it that this is the goal to win. Then you do things on the court and build up your wins and again tell your brain that this is a goal. One of the key things that will start to develop over time is your ability to not let little failures during a match impact on your overall psychology. You will you will focus on the next win. These wins build up fast and before you know it there is a hell of a lot of wins in a game and you just increased your chances of winning the key points that matter to winning the game. Really enjoyed your game and love the channel.

De Jong was really solid and you played pretty darn solid yourself considering the opponent Karue! My peasant and unwanted feedback (because I get tired of just saying good job all the time) were simply that you could use a bigger serve at times on key points, try to hit a tad deeper into the court and hit with more height and spin on the clay if you can (maybe rotate grip slightly to more western on forehand) especially to his bh. I noticed he hits within a few inches of the lines to your backhand and at times with tons of spin and height on the ball which I think you can implement some too. Maybe you can practice those alcaraz style droppers and start throwing some of that in on the clay when you really feel it or he hits short and with a bit too much height on the ball to you, But you played superbly well and obviously I wouldn't have gotten a game off of him so why listen to me? Exactly. Great job. You're really not far from his level. Oh and can you grow like 10 inches taller and that would help too to get an Isner style serve in. Yeah, me neither.

Your groundies were grooved, for sure, and your intensity was good, but his relentlessness was really making you go for the lines on putaways, at times. A lot of pressure to face without reprieve. Your touch was just a bit off at net in some crucial moments that might have amped your momentum, and it was tough for you to get to net in the first place. I think your power off the serve was not as crisp as it could have been because the marine layer and humidity took some sting out of the exchanges. His ball was just a bit more penetrating on the day; he used the conditions to his advantage because he had more time to set-up and exert his power from the back-court. On a hot, sun-blistered day, and on a faster court, you would have a definite chance at taking him out. Keep fighting to get forward and surprise these guys at net. Smart all-court opportunities will take you far next year, for sure. It’s gonna happen. All the ingredients are there (or coming together) and your game has been looking so clean, so linear. 👍

At sea level, on clay, cold weather and heavy balls, it is tough to hit through anyone. However, I think you could have added a bit more air to your shots and aimed to play deeper without adding too much risk, considering the conditions. At that ball height, his forehand is a bit heavier and he’s a better mover (a bit quicker with better balance), especially side to side. Playing with more depth might have opened up more opportunities (angles, drops, finishing points at net) for you but it's hard to say what would have been his adjustments. In any case, good match against a quite strong player 👍👍

hey karue! looking great. i i have been thinking what you are when you see those floaters, i pray you come in and put away volley, i think that is the only way to crack top 100. when i see you rush the net on a floater it seems you are a very top player. i do not recall seeing you lose a point at the net,. dropshot is working sweet. practice it. more spin time on racquet like tomic. good weapon i have always thought the biggest difference between top pros and college is the college player is not destroying the ball. you have to kill it! your placement is awesome, now see if you can still do it while hitting harder. it is not a game, it is war man! it is hard for you to see from my perspective. i am only comparing you with top 10 in the world. you may not make that but you have to be more like them. and they simply hit it harder! whether they have a longer swing and follow thru or what. this is what i know also see top players have a little more spin for security and a much bigger whip follow thru, ie nadal. serve looks great. returns look great.placement in corners is awesome! side to side movement still slow. this is why you have to be agressive. if the point goes too long they will punish you side to side. 1 2 punch. 1 is your awesome corner shot. 2 is rush the net and put away the volley. practice your overheads just in case. if you can do this, you will not have to hit harder. you will be playing smarter. thank you so much for your channel. like the format in the cheap hotel room after the match. so much better than watching spoiled atp players eat strawberries at wimbledon. i think your channel will be pivotal in bringing in viewers to the challengers world wide. i only watch challengers now from the atp site since you and others have started posting. i will watch no matter what. but you only have one shot in this life. get stronger. hit harder. maybe more spin. i dont know. but you can do it. alves is a very good player, best i have seen you play. at 30 there is no excuse for you to not get stronger. i mean weights sir. please dont label me weird for the long note. i am recovering from a tough time, and it would kill me. i am passionate about tennis. i played division1 but never had good coaching. someone to tell me. hit it harder american college player !!! have a good day. i will not write for a while. i am busy but will be watching. keep the fire. keep pumping your fist and shouting. the viewers and i love that. vamos! coach out🙂

Since Karue is a homebody, maybe playing closer to home could save his energy for later rounds
