Thank you for yet another great video! One question for both of you, to which I have not found an answer yet: Does (or will soon) the Optimus have any kind of temperature sensing like temperature sensors in hands (and feet) or thermal camera? This will be necessary for sure once deployed in general use to prevent melting or feeding its limbs or other exposed parts. And even in such controlled environments like factory floors there is a non-zero chance of encountering objects or surfaces with temperatures outside of the expected specs, like some compressed gas leakage or electrical / mechanical part overheating and so on.

The reason why the pinky has the extra movement is simple , the pinky and index fingers on human hand have 2 tendons while the ring and middle finger do not, the extra allows pinky to curl the hand, I learnt this after seeing a hand specialist.
@gacattack12349 күн бұрын
Pinky palm articulation may be there so pinky can touch the thumb like every finger for actions that require similar movement.

suppose you wanted to save money by making a symmetric hand that could be used on either you left or right arm. That would be making a hand with a pinky that becomes a thumb. Not saying that anyone is trying to do this, but putting a little more power and flexibility in the pinky is an interesting idea. When scott was talking about cats at one point and crash testing a car. I thought it would be cool to crash test robots in a fall to see if they could land with least damage. That would be a great video. But this is a case where you want to get the simulation passing 99% way before you start dropping your bots from however high...

I am of the thought that neurolink projects of bypassing damaged pathways between the brain and other body parts would be of great value integrated into Optimus bot training datasets both remote robot control and limb movement therapy rehabilitation. Having a physical world AI solution implementation to human movements and reactions could advance both medical and mechanical progress at an accelerated rate. I'm hoping that neurolink advances can be developed to the point that medical treatments can be done without some of the unwanted side effects of current drug therapy.

FSD is a much different training set from a robot training set. Moreover, Tesla won’t have the huge head-start they have with FSD. The FSD race should be Tesla’s to lose at this point. Robots and other automation is different. The competition including nvidia paid attention to the FSD race and are determined not to fall behind this time. That said, there will be a number of huge differentiators like Tesla’s manufacturing, hands, feet, actuators, ability to learn complex skills quickly, etc.
@davidbeppler303210 күн бұрын
FSD training set is very similar to robot training set. That is a tree. That is a car. That is a cat. That is a building. That is an emergency vehicle. That is a..... billions of hours saved.

@davidbeppler3032 no navagating the real.world and doing random tasks is FAAAAR harder than driving on roads with fixed rules for everything. Optimus will never get there. Fsd probably wont either.

Where the smaller bot companies may shine is in niche markets that require a bit of investment but are too small potatoes for Tesla to invest. One such (potentially huge but never the less niche) market is military applications of humanoid bots. Tesla may (for a variety of reasons) may opt to shy away from that potential market leaving it open to the smaller companies.
@davidbeppler303210 күн бұрын
Boston Dynamics wants the military contracts. They can back flip and toss a car!
@RonLWilson10 күн бұрын
@@davidbeppler3032 While being able to do that might have some military value, simply the ability to carry, aim, fire, and reload a rifle might suffice, and to better be able take a hit would be an added bonus. I am thinking 1X robotics would be a good candidate in that they are a Norwegian company that share a border with Russia and thus might have more skin in the game to do that, plus they already make security bots.

NVIDIA's new tool kit is parallel to what Tesla invented starting back a dozen years ago. It may help the laggards in the humanoid robot competition, but it's likely too late to be of any value to OEMs interested in autonomous vehicles -- where the game is near over.

Gotta walk before you can run. Nvidia is helping Legacy Auto cut corners and save a decade of internal development that they decided not to do 10 years ago because it was hard and they do not care about stock price in 10 years, only stock price next week.

Humanoid robots are an endlessly compelling technology and an exciting race to deploy at scale. I understand the need for a certain level of secrecy around Optimus development as our Chinese friends can copy everything in no time. But I really wish we could know more. I'm particularly interested in how they will be supported in the field, which nobody is talking about. Beyond their manufacturing expertise, this may be yet another advantage for Tesla, compared to Figure and Agility, as they already have a large field support organization.

Tesla will repeat the FSD training methodology for Optimus. Initially everything will be remotely operated and for proper remote operation you need a fully capable hand. Tesla will take videos and kinematics of remote operations and will use the tools and compute that they already built to get unsupervised Optimus…

Tesla has nothing on nvidia and Disney partnership, Disney with animatronic begun robotics in USA and even prosthetics where improved by disneys experience with animatronics and trying to perfectly replicate human behavior. and Disney has been focusing on emotional expressions and reactivity. Disney emotional AI bots with Nvidia AI are the most emotional expressive I have seen. disney has unreal engine 5 for gaming and if you look at avatar hulk and Thanos and iron men and lionking then you can see Disney can simulate all the compute and data needed.
