Concept cars are almost identical to the catwalk shows in London. The spectacularly weird dress someone made from recycled tires and a batch of kippers, becomes a blue Gingham summer dress sold for £20 by the tens of thousands.

When you mentioned the lip hiding the panel gap by being part of the design, it reminded me of the saying, "don't fix it, feature it."

Honda E with actual range would have been a legendary car. Mass produced with door cam "mirrors' too.

About the last concept cat to make it to production almost untouched was the Caddy Converj. It came out as the ELR. We loved ours for 7 years then traded it on a Tesla as Cadillac pretty much abandoned it. Not much in the way of parts available for a vehicle that sold less numbers than DeLoreans.

Concept cars can be fun to look at. Kinda like Hot Wheels cars or model spaceships. Hopefully, they occasionally stumble on a good idea that is actually practical.

The CyberTruck was released. Most people would not note the difference: a 3% reduction in size + external mirrors (not needed with FSD after the first half of 2025).

Tesla is awfully unique in that regard. Their versions at unveiling are not radically different from what they ultimately produce. I got a good look at them at the Petersen Museum. They're really close.

Great video. I remember going to the Detroit Autoshow back around the eary 2000s, so many concepts...that never came to be. That was the same weekend I visited the Chrysler P Museum. Fascinating Museum. After those 2 experiences I came to realise concept cars were pointless marketing...just a bunch of what ifs. Seeing real history and comparing it against wishful ambitions...made seeing some new ev concepts clear losers. 👍👍

5:25 I think the Wkndr looks pretty cool: kind of like the vehicle running around on a lunar or martian landscape in a b-grade sci-fi, or perhaps in a Major Matt Mason action figure set.

15:27 Pretty sure the statue of David is only missing its "short arm". But perhaps what I've seen in pictures (never been to Italy) was (mostly) reconstructed?

The Honda E is super cute. It's the Hello Kitty of cars.

Car show concepts (when they were cars) used to be fantastic. The Italian and French extreme concepts, unlikely to be produced, served as launch pads for new design elements. In the 90's Chrysler and Cadillac were audacious with their concepts and often brought them, in whole or part, to fruition. All of these modern concepts look like bricks with varying decoration on them. Rather sad.

Actually, that Plymouth monstrosity around 12:50 would be an interesting and possibly practical alternative to an RV, though I fear that kitchen and other plumbing looks like it might not fit inside the shell, most likely have to be some sort of slide out and unfold arrangement, but it might be achievable.

Great concept for a continuing series. I like the Tesla Van, but the Robovan is a bit to retro for me to enjoy. I like the Canoe looks for the most part. Even a smaller Tesla Semi frontend 'ish' would be better for the Van.

10:36 oh my, that looks sweet (the 1% less impractical Honda) and I bet its coefficient of friction is solidly under 0.2 (better than the Model 3, but not as good as is claimed by Aptera). I was trying to get Grok to draw something like this just the other day (never succeeded).

8:50 I find it strange that Cadillac would think ending the names of an entire line of cars with "-ick" (phonetically) was a good idea.

Loved the little Honda concept, and it was sort of built with the slight difference that the concept was a boy who is into sports, while the production was a girl who is into computer games. Or something. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but they made it too cute. I think with some cool wheels/wheel arches and a painted roof it would almost be back to the concept look.

Why does Polestar (Geely) think an EV still needs a grill? I know Chinese cars often copy western designs but at least they usually pick good ones to copy.

4:17 out of the park? No I'd call the TRD out of the sandbox thinking. Worst designation for a vehicle name since Robocop's 6000 SUX, but I might buy that for a dollar!

I stumbled into this video at random and I must admit I'm a bit disappointed. I was expecting a bigger, deeper dive into the "why" of their not being made, instead of the rapid-fire version the video is. That said, the video itself was good! Just not what I was expecting based on the title. If you were to make a follow-up explaining the reasons you mentioned in this video at depth, I'd love to watch it.
