I've played both oldschool and rs3 for quite awhile now, base 80s in os base 90s in rs3, yeah os took longer than rs3, but I made an ironman on rs3 recently and it 100% removes all treasure hunter rewards, bonus xp is still a thing but only from clue scrolls. I personally prefer rs3 ironman as it is the best of both worlds.

Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed the series so far! I'm a returning player that dabbled a bit in both games. A lot of videos out there are tailored to players already at high levels. So I'm enjoying seeing characters being played at lower levels. It provides me a lot of context for my own low level characters. Keep up the great work!

Yea I remember them doing a thing at one point where if you bought membership you were given one million experience points to any stat. I got it but immediately lost interest as I hadn't worked for it so it was like throwing away a five gum wrapper as apposed to a cool bazooka bubble gum wrapper and keeping it because it was less common and had a fun comic in it

For osrs, look up quest xp rewards on the wiki and don't be afraid to do more member quests earlier. You can save a ton of time by doing quest after quest to boost your levels.

Fun story, after not playing any RS for many years I decided to try it again. Well, I ended up delving straight into RS3 with my oldschool character not realizing just how much stuff they had changed. I had full Adamite armor before but then couldn't wear it anymore because they changed the level requirement in RS3. RIP.

While RS3 definitely has it worse, I will point out that when I first started OSRS it was just to do the holiday events (they looked unique/fun/no requirements so why not?) and I sold the holiday items I got and had like *500K* as a level 3. That's a king's bounty and it carried me leisurely through my early leveling for like a month. (granted it's a lot less now that people know those items come back again every year)

One thing I like about RS3 is that group content is more accessible early. Even in F2P there's already KBD and The Giant Mole for group bossing. OSRS has Obor and Bryophyta both of which are strictly solo bosses. It's easier for me to interact with friends who just started playing the game in RS3. I can actually help them fight stuff instead of just watching because every area is multi-way combat. Don't get me wrong, I also like OSRS. I have more quests done on OSRS. And I also have a higher total lvl in OSRS if you don't include the new skills from RS3. I have the Fire Cape, completed Dragon Slayer 2, etc. I've probably spent way more time in OS than RS3 (just Agility alone took forever LOL), and there's no doubt about the sense of achievement you get in OS when you get to the higher levels. But... sometimes the game feels pretty lonely. There really is a lack of mid-lvl group content. There's Sarachnis(?) the new mid-lvl boss but I don't know what else. I know I can make it to the high lvl group content like God Wars and Raids but damn... knowing that my IRL friends would have to grind their skills for as long as I did just so we can play together is just... Anyway, tl;dr: I like both games. But RS3 does group content better. And I like it more for that reason.

The free handouts are indeed very OP in RS3. They should nerf the amount of bonus XP you get in general, and 200 magic notepaper being a free 200k.. Maybe make those untradeable? Because a lot of stuff you get from treasure hunter is just stuff you sell at the GE(so free cash) and free XP. But I can't think of any other satisfying reward honestly. Cosmetics work in old school, but RS3 has so many cosmetic unlocks you can't even count them. Most of them have no value whatsoever because they're received through treasure hunter. Cosmetics are cool but the holiday overrides people tend to just ignore because there's much better cosmetics out there you can easily unlock.

fletch and burn gives you less xp per log than just fm or just fletching. if you were to do 50% of the logs for just fm and 50% for just fletch youd end up with more xp from the logs. But ye it does take a bit longer so maybe the fletch and burn option is good if you dont have a ton of time to play

Loving the series! I love both games as well, I get amazing nostalgic PvP from Osrs, and I get amazing end game bossing and much more reasonable skilling rates from Rs3 lol. Hope this series keeps blowing up! Y'all are great! Edit: I personally don't mind the micro transactions but I'm not a fan of how they approach it, if they removed Treasure Hunter and just let everyone buy oddaments as the new MTX currency it would be much more honest. What people don’t get is those xp lamps mean nothing past like level 50. I for one don’t like osrs it takes too much time to do fun stuff. I’m already max on rs3 except for the newer skills like invention and archeology. Maybe someday I’ll max again. Wish rs3 didn’t kick you from max guid tho.

I play a lot of rs3 and personally I like the free xp u get from those rewards. You do need to realise that you got 30 days of rewards in a few minutes and that's why you leveled so fast in so little time. I think it would be better if they only gave out those rewards for being online everyday and I do think it's way to fast in the early levels. This kind of xp is nice but wont let you skip any content on higher levels

I wish there was a middle point between osrs and rs3. There a ton of content thats in one game and not the other. And there are things about both games that I don't like and wish they would change or adapt. I love rs3s inclusion of the toolkit and quest overhaul, i wish osrs could get that.. Its true, the constant rs3 handouts are a bit much. And Eoc takes some getting used to. Osrs got a huge construction overhaul that actually makes construction worth it. While rs3 gets none of that.

Xp weekends are better now, you get 48 hours of log in time, over about 10 days, so you could play 4.8 hours a day over 10 days I suppose, so it's quite nice now

The RS3 community is mostly composed of the people who stayed after EOC was released, making it rare to find non-ironman players who aren't at least maxed combat. There's no real influx of new players in the game because returning player choose OSRS instead and MMOs aren't very popular with zoomers. Furthermore, the player retention at lower levels is so bad simply because the players in those level brackets have no one to play with. In the context of RS3, lamps, stars, and other sources of free xp is somewhat of a necessary evil. Letting new people skip the early game to join the majority of the community at higher levels. But also, in a relative sense, the free xp is somewhat negligible to the higher level community who are grinding tens of millions of xp towards their 120 goals-in a practical sense, serving only as a cost-cutting measure for expensive skills like Herblore. It's certainly one of the worst mechanics Jagex uses to 'fix' their game, like adding a band-aid to a sinking ship. It's obvious that they have given up on adding content for new and mid-level players. Instead, they focus all their content on the loyal high level players that make up the majority.

It was alright in RS3 but the Oldschool one definitely seems a lot better. A quest where you can chat with other players as you do it (compared to the RS3 one from 2018), a lot more i'm assuming original cosmetics, also more fashionable ones just except the The Merry title which was really nice and especially no insane xp handouts in OSRS, well i suppose they're also forgetting about the snowboards and the Christmas dance emote we haven't gotten for a few years now in RS3. Though that's just the event part, RS3 is otherwise pretty amazing except for deadclicks and some outdated areas but mainly just Treasure Hunter, just those 3 things in my book.

I agree, but some people don’t think players should even have the choice. I’m using it because it’s a big difference between the games, and I wanted to see how much of a head start in levels it would really give me. I’m curious to see if I’ll catch up in OS when we get to higher levels.

Honestly, exp in rs3 is very broken. For instance, if you were to take your 14 range and get a carry through an Elite Dungeon quick run, and leave with 45 or so range if not even higher. The real grind for rs3 comes from the high tier bossing, grandmaster quests and grinding virtual levels. Also keep in mind, in rs3 herblore is scaled all the way to 120 (104m xp) I'm maxed in rs3 and I've played pretty steadily since around 03, and I can say there are many ways of achieving 3 to 5m xp/hr with ease and that's something os just doesn't have. Bossing is where some of the really big differences are apparent.

Day 3 on being new on both runescapes for me. I think that the handouts on RS3 are a bit too much. I think i would've liked it much better if it didn't do any of the handouts, but still had all the quality of life stuff (especially the tool belt, mining box, lodestones). Maybe don't hand out anything, but boost the xp game to 1.5x or double so its not such a crazy grind

I do partially agree, but someone pointed out to me later that the xp lamps and rewards give you almost nothing at higher levels! Also, RS3 has a lot more endgame content than OSRS so Jagex might be trying to help you get there? Either way, I wish it wasn’t so easy to blow past lower levels!

I believe that the handouts that are given to you in RS3 are honestly not that bad in they were just associated with holidays and special events. An example of this for OSRS is seen through Quests, Achievement diaries, and Tears of Guthix. I love that I had a way for training my Runecrafting skill from 15-77 by completing quests, all Achievement diaries except the Karamoja elite diary, and using Tears once a week. Where I have the problem playing RS3, is the uncertainty of a player who is maxed thought careful consideration of where they use all the free experience offered to them like every other player, and one who is maxed by means of Microtransactions. my example is my account I had played for many years during RS2, leveling and grinding, then after EOC using free Exp given to other players. While RS3 was easier, I could enjoy my account still as I had earned my levels. What made me quit RS3 and play OSRS was a former friend spending close to $2,000 on Micro-Transactions and max level in all skills, and not even knowing where morytania was in-game. It was too much to take that i wasted 3000+ hours in-game skilling and grinding when I could have spent $2,000 just to save time.

Aaron Snyder I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I don’t think Jagex will remove micro transactions (they make too much money off of it), but I do wish it was limited to purely cosmetic items.

@@marcusisahooper at this point they shouldn't anyway. I am more than satisfied with the split they currently have, and if the were to remove MTX then the new player would be at a huge disadvantage compared to the older players. As long as you have the option for which kind of game you want to play, then that gives more power to the players to make a decision.

A quest is very different than getting free exp from mtx or events. Quests have to be completed and have requirements and so do achievement diaries. To complete all easy diaries you will need a total lvl of ~350. Your reward is 30,000 exp. That's enough to get one skill to 37. To get that you need 3 lvl 40 skills and 10 skills lvl 20 or higher. The exp payoff gets worse the higher the diary. All the elites give 600,000. That's enough to get one skill 67. The lowest skill needed to complete a single elite is around 90 or ~6 million exp. Tears of Guthix is a quest reward and gives ~9k exp once a week. He was able to get like 40 lvls just standing in a bank with nothing unlocked yet. To train one skill to 77 you had to train many skills to ~90 and complete tons of quests.
