I did my power off 180s during flight training in a Cessna 152, I nailed them every time and practiced them often. One of my favorite maneuvers and it also really helped me to appreciate how well the Cessna's glide in an idle power situation.

I really enjoy doing power off 180s. It’s rewarding to master these. I also like be at a there altitude several miles from an airport that’s not busy and do a simulated engine out and glide to the runway and land. I do these quite regularly to stay proficient. I skill I hope I never need for real.

Love power off 180s but . . . wondering if it actually simulates a true power off if the engine is still cranking maybe 600 RPM. If not, you would have to plan for a shorter distance to land.

4/4. Would have been helpful to discuss target speeds and flaps settings when doing a power-off 180 going from downwind to base to final. Especially important to maintain airspeed going from base to final to avoid spin risk. You mentioned it's better to come in high rather than low, which makes total sense, but you might have to trade some of that altitude to maintain Vg.

Jason, I've always been a big fan of yours. I've largely modeled my own content and teaching after you and MZeroA. I have to give you some tough love though and say that I've been quite disappointed with your content lately. This video does not live up to the description at all. You don't break down the maneuver. You don't talk about the setup or the tools we have available to manage the energy in order to hit our spot accurately. A tail cam could have gone a long way for this and many of your other recent videos as well. It just so happens that I have my Power-off 180 Deep Dive video being published this Monday, and I'd be curious to hear what you think. Still a huge fan, but have definitely noticed a big drop in content substance and quality over the past few years.

four by four - Before the PPL checkride, we are actively discouraged from "turning back to the aerodrome" and required to find a landing spot ahead of the plane... But after, I'll be sure to take up the CFI and train that as well.
