Ruggiero Ricci's rendition was also pretty amazing. Undoubtedly one of the greatest violinists in the world. As a young man I was lucky enough to hear a performance of God Save the King by Leonid Kogan on a trip to Moscow in 1975 or 76 when I was a member of the Italian Communist Party (yes, when you are young it is easy to fall prey to stupid ideas). Unfortunately there are no recordings of this piece by Kogan

Reasons why he plays like the frickin devil -super even and clean runs -super powerful and accented left hand pizz. -incredibly even bow work -playing it way faster that any other interpretation I’ve ever heard -nailing the tenths and thirds like it’s nothing -crazy projection -super even trills, especially on the double stop trill -somehow didn’t break a bow hair -phrasing is super on point -even vibrato -sustains the semiquaver ricochet passage in the finale -nails the flying upbow staccato on the left hand pizzicato passage -bites the violin to bring out the lower voice -plays notes way up in high positions super fast and plays them super cleanly and in-tune -chords sound very even and not-crunchy -both voices speak cleanly -nails the harmonics -trill passage sounds like a mandolin somehow I could go on forever

( and a lot of great violonist think the same), but some other totally love him. But just look at him playing Ravel Tzigane at freaking 87 or something that's some impressive thing

I like to sauté my rosin in some natural tasting oil to give it a caramelized flavour, I personally don't bother cooking the strings but when I do I use this method: take the strings and boil them for 20-30 seconds and immediately drop them in an ice bath for ease of pealing, after you have taken off the skins slice them thinly and add them to the same pan as the rosin for the last half a minute or so, and you're done! this is a very simple week night meal that takes little to no time or effort. I like to top mine with a bit of parmigiano reggiano, picorino romano and the tears of 3 year old kids forced to play the violin.

I remember Ricci, when I was learning violin, those were the recordings my parents got me. Roman is just amazing, I listen to this with the score but wind up watching him, he plays it so dynamically and musically it is a wonder to watch. Double stop harmonics with pizz thrown in, I can't even imagine doing it. Plus all those chromatic passing tones in the middle of very difficult techniques is too amazing for words. I also play flamenco guitar and those left hand pulloffs will rival any master flamenco guitarist for sure. Amazing violinist!!

Oh my god, thanks for this performance. Completely amazing. I've heard more sensitive, expressive and perhaps slightly more beautiful performances, but no one blazes through it like this, and it is extremely beautiful. He has skill in a way no other living violinist does, and clear personal style. I would love to hear more Paganini from him. Palpiti and Moses var. come to mind.

The shutter speed and frame rate aren’t matched up properly and it’s causing ghosting. It doesn’t help that his playing is ridiculous fast at some points and the frame rates aren’t keeping up.

I have watched this video so many times not knowing who the violinist is - thinking he is just another average violinist who posted a video of his accomplishment, and as a pianist, I sometimes question how some violinists say that this is the hardest piece ever. But, thanks to 'TwoSet Violin [KZbin]' I now understand how difficult this piece actually is and probably on the verge of impossible yet he managed it so fast while maintaing great quality. If there is a word higher than a prodigy, he is way, wayyy higher than it. I am mindblown by his very virtuostic talent that perhaps only he in history, has! Already a quick edit: Many say that there are many other virtuostic violinists out there (like Kavakos) just like him but I still think that this is the best interpretation of this piece out there in the public.

They have finally reacted to this! I just wish though they showed the variation with the many many double harmonics. Also his live performance of this truly shows how messed up the fingerings are in the last variation. For example the first chord starts off with an open g and open d with the first finger for b on the a string and 2nd for g on the e string. Easy enough, but then after that he stretches the FREAKING CRAP OUT OF HIS PINKY to reach the e on the g string and his 3rd finger on the g on the d string while maintaining the 1st and 2nd finger on the b and g. My hands are small considering i'm 5'11" and it's impossible for me.

+Tom Yang gitlis is technically a lot better, musically absolutely more fascinating than kogan and vengorov. and of course much, much better than roman. just look and hear!

+Tom Yang There are technically better players than Kogan, to be musical as Vengorov is not really a compliment (professional musicians know what I mean), Gitlis is sometimes crazy, but technically better than Kogan and in any case a lot more musical than Vengorov! Roman unfortunately has no reasons to be mentioned in this group.

@@wasagoodyear-mg9kt Roman Kim is by far the most technically accomplished violinist in the group, if not the greatest in history. Listen to his compositions and his transcriptions, they're the most difficult pieces ever written. Paganini and Ernst themselves would be amazed.
