Hello Silver State Trains, The layout is looking very nice. I am also big on freight Trains and just started running Japanese freight trains on my layout. keep up the good work.

Thank you!! That sounds really cool. What kind of layout are you working on. Thanks for checking out my channel.

Hi Silver State Trains . I have not run a train on my layout in about a year. I have been working on scenery around and under bridges. That way I don’t have to keep taking them out. Making sure the bridges are level. Kato does make curved bridges and there the same height as the track. Get you some bridge pears from Chooch great products. I have one part of the layout that I worked so hard on and now I’m going to take it out because I’m going to extending on that end. Not sure if I’m going 8 foot or 12 foot. Things are always changing. The last 6 months I’ve have gotten some new locomotives from Scale Trains and they are still in the boxes. I want to get them on the layout but I’m being patient till I get the layout right. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍

It sounds like you have a really nice looking layout. I will get to scenery soon enough. Then I will learn a whole new set of lessons I’m sure. After ready a bunch of comments, I went on a hunt for bridges. I am not able to find any curved bridges yet that are flat bottom without track pre-installed. I think I may just build a liftoff mountain tunnel there. Would solve a few problems…….and hopefully not create new ones. I say go for the 12 foot extension 😁😁

For an additional industry, you can try a scrap yard, grain elevator, brewery, a Foundry, or anything that fits into the location you're modeling. Good luck, and nice layout.

I believe KATO sales, a curved girder bridge. Adding a few shims under it should give you your clearance. I have found DOOR SHIMS work well for transitions before bridges.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
I have been looking at those. The under hang seems to be the same as the straight girder bridge I have so not sure that will work. I really like those bridges though. I just did not get enough height here. I like the door shim idea. Thanks for sharing that!!

Good work bud! Enjoyed the vid. I like Passenger AND freight. I like passenger so they can just run around and keep things busy while I run or switch freight or swap locos. Switching locos on passenger trains is fun too. Try Kato Girder bridge like everyone is suggesting. Would like to see how it works for you in that spot.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
I agree with you. The passenger engines are just fun to keep running. I love the Kato passenger sets too. They just look really cool. I enjoy operating freight trains more though. I have a girder bridge I had to take out as the under hang was too great. I may just build a tunnel mount in scene. I will keep looking for something that will solve the problem.

Re the bridge problem: buy some Atlas plate girder bridges, cut off the plate girders from the bridge and glue them to the side of your roadbed. If your heart is set on a tunnel portal you can carve one out of a scrap piece of foam. It will take some time to get the opening arch like but after that it can be painted to look like concrete of you could carve it to look like stone. Either way it will be unique and something you could call your own. As for another industry the Geo. Roberts furniture factory from Walthers would be good because the spur to the industry goes under the building so it will fit in a tight location. Just my 2 cents worth.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the ideas. I was looking at the Atlas girder bridges. I will need one that curves which I was having trouble finding. My clearances are tight and I think I will end up doing a double tunnel so I can just span that track with thin plastic. I will make the tunnel lift off though for easy track cleaning and maintenance. I love that industry idea. I will look at that model!! Thanks.

I don't know the radius you are working with, but, I would try to make a Kato curved girder work for the overpass. Thanks for sharing and looking good.

I looked at those but the under hang is far too great. I did not allow enough room here unfortunately. Thank you for commenting.

This is true. The minute I walk outside….they all follow me. It’s fun for sure, but my filming style is not conducive to it as I just set the camera up and work, little to no redos.

It’s not uncommon to have gaps when model Building. If you are glued up and have an unsightly gap, get some model putty, I use tamiya, and fill the gap before painting. Good job!
@stephen10985 ай бұрын
yep. Walthers building and most railroad kits i find are mad pretty crappy. Especially for the price we pay. Either will the gap with tamiya putty or gel super glue. You can also make spru glue which is what i have been using a lot. Just google it.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
That is a good idea. I will look into that. I have made a few kits and it is challenging for sure working on models this small.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
Yeah I am learning that for sure. I will look that up as it sounds like that will do the trick. Thanks!!

Your comment at 6:32 - I do not recommend a quick down-then-up. That's asking for trouble. What about scratch-building some type of trestle for the upper track that protrudes only minimally below the Kato roadbed that keeps the arrangement unchanged but will clear double stacks? In other words, don't use a Kato bridge.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
I agree. I talked myself out of it while stating it on camera. Just sounds like trouble. I would not even know where to begin with scratch building though I like the idea. I think the current height is not even enough to clear a double stack. I do not have any though and I could not find any specs when I looked it up. This was a mistake on my layout. Lesson learned.

Sorry, didn’t pay attention to the size area you had for another industry, but in a nearby town, we have a plastics manufacturing plant on a branch off UP. They get deliveries of pellets in covered hoppers. Never looked into what they make though. Here is industries from a spreadsheet that’s retrievable from the operations special interest group website. I think sparks and Reno might be near you? "Serving railroad initials; if model railroad, follow with "*" Railroads are, to extent possible, 1950s era. Hi Stephen. Not an industry, but do you want/need an engine shed and/or a diesel refuelling station?
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
I currently have the Kato engine shed by the yard and I built a fueling station near the shed that is not always on the layout depending on what’s being worked on. I may be good there unless there is something more prototypical I could do as well or in addition.

Something i see and i am not sure if this is relevant to you. How do cars and trucks get to you building on the layouts? If that matters i would map that out and see if it works in a basic logical sense. You have a lots of track in a really nice layout but i am not sure how roads fit into it.
@Silverstatetrains5 ай бұрын
I had never planned on roads for this layout. Since there was no plan, there is little to no room for it. This layout will be my first that I take to scenery so I will learn a lot with this layout. My next layout will be a lot friendlier to roads and buildings and the like. Being new to the hobby, I am still in the got to have lots of track phase! All in time. Thanks for watching.
