Are you familiar with James Jordan’s writing? I’m working through his book Through New Eyes, which seems to bring out some of these same insights but many more as well, even though he was writing in the 80s. But he does it without Heiser’s conspiratorial vibe. I’m curious if his work is familiar to you.

@@stephencrawford5452 I have not. I’ll look into them. I think you might be misrepresenting Heiser. I don’t think he had any type of conspiratorial vibe. He spoke about things that the Bible spoke about and that western Christianity forgot. That doesn’t seem conspiracy in It’s nature at all.

@@ringthembells143 Thanks so much for your response. As for a "conspiratorial vibe," you're right that that might not be fair to Heiser. Admittedly, I'm only getting him secondhand, so I'm not too sure how he's being filtered. Most of these ideas I'm hearing from his snippets, I have already encountered elsewhere--and just as a first impression, those presentations I've encountered elsewhere do seem more responsible than what I'm seeing here. But there are at least two ways it seems that people's suspicions are being played upon and possibly ratcheted up. One is the suggestion that "this is what the Bible is really about but your pastor never told you." For one, it's overdrawn. These are genuine themes that bring parts of the Bible into focus, but there is so much waiting for us to discover in Scripture that when Christians talk about THIS is the key for unlocking the Bible, there's usually something off about that. For another, the rhetoric threatens to undermine people's relationships with their congregations and pastors. That's not good for people's walk with Christ. The Church has always had the Bible. And the Light revealed in it has always lightened the hearts of Christians. We should be careful to honor that. The other way that Heiser's work (or at least the way it's presented) plays on suspicions has to do with nations in general and America in particular. Maybe the video thumbnails are enough to make this point. Although maybe this part of my concerns would be better handled separately.

@@ringthembells143 Thanks so much. And I understand how hard it is to find time for KZbin comments. You've already shown me such courtesy, but I appreciate any thoughts you find time to share with me. Godspeed.

Always enjoy N. T, Wright's viewpoint. It expands my way-too-narrow view of God.

Interesting statement about Genesis always being near. One might say it is omnipresent. The events of the deception and fall in the garden are repeated every day and every hour in every place in this beautiful garden where God so graciously placed humankind. We have all corrupted our way and our place. Is there any hope? Who will deliver us from ourselves? Only Jesus Christ, our deliverer and redeemer. Blessed be His Holy Name!

Political Christianity too often forgets the 'now, but not yet' aspect of Jesus' kingdom. He never forced anyone to follow him. But when he returns in glory, people will be held responsible for what they did with what they had been offered. It is the church's responsibility to take Jesus the Messiah, the living Word of God, to the people. People will then walk in newness of life in the Spirit, without the necessity of laws and regulations. To the extent that engaging in the political arguments of this age detracts from that simple gospel, and stumble people from accepting Christ, then the church is on the wrong track.

Another piece to the puzzle is finding churches that teach this :( do u have any recommendations in Southern California for churches ?
@ringthembells1437 ай бұрын
Let me look into that. But I would search for John Mark Comer and follow where he goes. I know he just recently moved to that area and anything he’s affiliated with I would put stock into

Jesus said his kingdom was not of this world. That there is a kingdom of God and a kingdom of heaven. So far Satan is yet ruling over this planet in spades.
