At the Dubai Airshow 2021, I visited the Irkut MC-21. This is the MC-21’s International debut. Check out the airframe, cabin, cockpit and testing station. I interviewed an engineer onboard the MC-21, who revealed that the MC-21 will be entering service in 2022 with Rossiya Airlines. The modern MC-21 cabin resembles that of an Airbus 320 or a Boeing 737. Can the new MC-21 be a serious challenge to the narrow body market dominated by Airbus/Boeing?
The Irkut MC-21 (Russian: Иркут МС-21) is a single-aisle airliner, developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau and produced by its parent company Irkut which is a branch of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) in Russia.
Next, I checked out a Sukhoi SuperJet (SSJ) in the VIP configuration branded as the Aurus Business Jet. The interior of Sukhoi is similar to the western counterpart, with tablets to control all the functions of the interior. The price will vary from $39 million to $50 million, significantly cheaper than other private jets in the same category.

@@sss-og1yl Interjet had its Airbus planes confiscated because they didn't paid their installments, their assets were interdicted because they didn't pay the fuel bills on airports... And the fault is their SSJ100...yep. Arguably the plane was the only thing they had to survive, with a handful of them operative and the rest being cannibalized due to them being unable to pay for spare parts. While Safran also asked for payments in advance, when their French junky engines needed rebuild after only 50% of their life cycle... It's called negligent administration for something. Their executives are in jail you know why? Because SSJ100. ROFL

These aircraft will be great for Russian airlines and countries around Russia. As for Western or any European airline taking deliveries its a pipe dream, today or the med term it will never happen. Sukhoi have a lot to learn having supply chain issues outside of Russia, aircraft reliability, difficult maintenance and spare parts availability have a long way to go with Sukhoi. If you can't get the above 3 issues sorted out in the international market you might as well be pissing against the wind, MC-21 and the SSJ are all in the same boat.

@@f900ex5 SSJ100 before getting upgraded with PD-8 engines and new interiors yes. MC-21 as soon as Airlines notice how effective are Aeroflot's operations they will start considering the plane if they let them customize the interiors at will. The 300 version will only leave Russia if big discounts are offered, the 400 version will sell like Donuts in front of a Police station...mark my words. They have an advantage of 7-10 years against Boeing or Airbus for a 250+ passenger single aisle plane to arrive on the market. And the midmarket is currently filled with 757 and 767 that will need to be replaced progressively until 2029. With Airbus or Boeing not having anything solid on the table until 2035...

The funny thing about anyone who is bashing the quality of Russian planes is that they really don't have any clue, let alone 95% of them have never even seen any Russian plane in person or the only place they have been out of continental US is London or Paris. But the reality is that all the planes that global institutions like the UN use, the real heavy lifters for most multinationals out there for those who have had a chance to see the world at large, and not from their mom's computer in the basement, most people who have been around especially those in the military would definitely say that former soviet Union cargo planes are out there still hauling huge mass of cargo very reliably; you don't see Lockheed C130's or European cargo most of the planes you see are old Russian strongly built planes still going strong. To me anyone who talks down on Russian planes, it's clear that they are just not well-traveled and have no clue about what they are talking about.

The design engineer being a design engineer didn't mention one HUGE selling point for the passengers and crew.. The MC21 has a aisle wide enough for a passenger to pass while the trolley is being used. No more waiting for food/ duty free distribution to complete to go to the toilets. This is achieved because the fuselage is 10-15cm wider than all competition in this segment. And THIS was achieved through new aerodynamic design. If this aircraft is let to compete in fair circumstances (I have my doubts), I believe it has good potential.

And the Russian Tsar went completely crazy and started the biggest war in Europe since World War II. Threatens the world with nuclear war if he is prevented from implementing his schizophrenic plans. Hence the sanctions. Nobody needs planes from such an unstable country. Not to mention that all such projects in Russia exist NOT in order to succeed, but in order to steal money from it and create a good picture for Russian TV. It doesn’t matter that no one needs Russian planes in real life. The main thing is that these planes will be shown on TV and the level of patriotism among the population will increase. Maximum takeoff weight: MS-21-300: 79.25 t, A320neo: 79 t, B-737 MAX 8: 82.2 t. Boeing with its outdated design from the middle of the last century is overweight by almost 3 tons. Airlines pay part of their airport taxes based on this parameter, which means that payments for the B-737 MAX 8 will be almost 4% higher compared to competitors. Maximum payload: MS-21-300: 22.6 t, A320neo: 20 t, B-737 MAX 8: 20.88 t. Volume of cargo compartments: MS-21-300: 49 cubic meters (9 standard containers) , А320neo: 44 cubic meters (7 standard containers), B-737 MAX 8: 43.7 cubic meters. Here MS-21 is significantly ahead of competitors by 11% due to the increased diameter of the fuselage. MC-21 is slightly inferior to Western counterparts in flight range due to less fuel on board. MC-21 fills up to 20.4 tons of fuel, A-320neo already 26.73 tons, B-737 takes 25.82 tons for flight at the declared maximum range. At the same time, the flight range of the MS-21 is only 300 km less than that of the A-320neo. The catalog value of the promising Russian MS-21-300 aircraft will amount to $ 96.1 million. The prices of its classmates of similar capacity in a two-class layout B737MAX-8 (from 162 seats) and A320neo (from 165 seats) are 15-20% higher - 117 , 1 million and 110.6 million dollars, respectively. However, manufacturers can offer substantial discounts on the aircraft list price.

Great job, glad to see healthy competition. Also beautiful to see bright Soviet minds at work once again innovating, but now in a modern and much more free Russia. Heartwarming, keep up the good work. ❤️👏🏼👏🏼

the coolest fact about sidestick of MC-21 is that both of them are connected and there will be never conflict between pilots who rules the plane. Moreover, movings of sidestick and pressure that pilot should put to move it is connected with the difficulty of real move of whole plane

@@mdstate829, if we speak about sidestics(Airbus A320 and A220 family) that are most common to MC-21, they are not connected physically/ If fisrt pilot move his sidestick the second sidestick is not moving. As the chef pilot of MC-21 told, that can be problem because of misscommunication of pilots who control now the plane. When sidestics are connected physically, there cannot be misscommunication because second sidestick moves in the same way as the first one.

Wow, a second comment telling exactly the same thing. How curious. I wonder how much did the Russians pay Sam for this complimentary video

@@mehabox, you are not a smart if you see in this video advertisement of Russian planes. It is just a review of a new plane that is on a final path of certification and moreover with new engines. Why Sam can’t do this review? And in my comment there is no add too, because it is just a fact. It is a well-known fact. This technology was added on the stage of design of plane and is partly a competitive advantage. My words only repeat the fact and words of chef Yakovlev pilot, that is testing this plane.

Thanks for the review Sam! Hope Irkut find some English speaking reps for international shows. MC 21 has so much more to offer than just a high aspect ratio wings!

The skies certainly needs more variety. I wish the Russians and Chinese success in their bid to break the Airbus/Boeing duopoly on commercial aviation. We all need the competition.

Sam I don’t think you’ll see too many superjet in the future. 1.8 T per hour is a lot for a plane that size. A320 NEO with Pratt and W will burn the same. Not full loaded airplane. Is sad is a great airplane, hard to find maintenance parts. Great videos !!!

Your estimate for A320Neo is a gross underestimation. Even the best analysis agree that the A320Neo would burn anywhere from 2100kg - 2200kg per hour. Whereas the A320ceo did the same at 2400-2500kg per hour. Airbus would not give an estimate in the tonnage format, much rather preferring to give seat-mile estimate - knowing fully well that with 180 seats squeezed in, they can give a much more impressive, but deceptive fuel burn rate. In truth, regardless of how it is formatted, the fuel burn per hour is the most honest and can be calculated.

The west do not believe in fair competition, their sanctions on Russia made it expensive to maintain Russian made birds.

4:34 You can see how the fans looked quite similar to the ones on cfm56. This is because they worked with Safran on the engines, more specifically, the low pressure system, just like their portion on cfm56.
