Very nice job you did on the Rutland caboose, Aaron! It will look even better when the marker lamps are back on & illuminated!

What type of adhesive do you use to hold the railings/ladders into the body? I am rebuilding a caboose that is very similar to that one.

Well, as for the roof not being removable, there’s always a sawzall! (With an appropriate blade for wood.) Then, before reattaching the roof, make 4 “alignment” pegs, one for each corner, so the roof will fit back on, and not slide side-to-side, or forwards-backwards once installed. Once the roof is removed, you’ll have better access to the interior to clean out dead bugs, leaves, dirt, spider webs, etc… and it’ll make it easier to install window glazing in the openings furthest from the cupola. Also to assess the floor; it may need help just like that gondola car you worked on a few videos ago. As for the job seeming to never end, welcome to model railroading! 😅

@williamsquires3070 The customer didn't want me to go so far as to cut the roof off, they just wanted repairs and a paint job. Had they wanted to have a removable roof, it would have posed some interesting challenges. I would probably have disassembled the roof and built a new one that sat snugly down inside the car sides. The floor was not damaged at all, but I would have rebuilt it if the customer wanted me to. I think the scope of the job fit this car really well this time, however, and the customer is happy with what was done. Overall, not a bad suggestion, but I might have taken a different approach with the same basic result. As they say: there's more than one way to skin a cat(fish).

I strip paint with brake fluid

Won't brake fluid soak into the wood?

Looks great Aaron, but please wear Nitrile gloves next time you work with Denatured Alcohol... You're skin absorbs chemicals and that alcohol is not good for you. A well ventilated space is also best.

@@WHJeffB I have a big fan on that side of the shop that can suck the air out of the whole house if I don't open a window in the shop.
