One Year Ownership 2022 Explorer ST

We revisit Nightwing after one year of ownership. We go over some new parts some things that needed to be fixed by the dealer and some future endeavors. This video is a little longer than I predicted so I guess I had a lot to say.

Man everything that you've done to the ST is very tasteful. I really like the stance it has with the lowering springs, but I personally like the other rims and tires that you have for it. Looking forward to see you get you S650, Im a old guy like you lol Im sure you'll do it right. I have a 2019 procharged Mustang Gt pushing 780 rwhp and I have added some tasteful parts to the exterior and I get so many compliments and have won several car shows. Thanks for sharing bud

I would leave the st badges red. But black out the blue oval front and rear emblems. The factory exhaust came out the bottom holes to keep the tips clean.

I just purchased a brand new 2024 Ford Explorer ST in White. Was actually looking for the blue color you got but they didn't have it so I went with the white cause it had a luxury look to it.

I have a 2020 ST with about 25,500 mi. on it. I have the same Steeda lowering spring and rear adjustable sway bar. I may get the front sway bar soon as well. I have a fully customized stainless steel exhaust that was fabricated in Manassas, VA. I live in MD.. I have a Stage 4, 93 Octane Livernois Tune and sit on 24" 3-Piece Forgiato Wheels. I almost purchased the same CAI for my ST and F-150, but I didn't pull the trigger. Aside from window and windshield tint, that's all I've done. I will change out the factory speakers, as they can't handle what I need them to handle. As you mentioned, the "diffy stiffy" will get purchased as well. How was your time in Asheville, NC? I attended the ST Experience there as well.. I must say, that was the best new car perk I've ever experienced. Ford Racing definitely did a good job of showcasing what the ST is capable of. Did they give you the blacked out ST badges when you departed? I have mine, but I like the contrast of the red ST logo against my black truck, so I won't be installing them. Outside of the rear camera recall (blue screen), I've had no other issues with my truck.

Yeah my ST definitely feels like it rides on rails. For being such a big truck it is definitely confident inspiring. The ST performance Trip was awesome and really showed you the capability of these vehicles. I don't think you can go wrong in an explorer ST at all

Thanks for the vid. I have a "17 GT. My plastic / rubber wind splitters, the same material as your fender surrounds started to fade and the front was beat up from road debris. Griot Garage has ceramic coating application that comes as a package wipe with a small sponge. I highly recommend check it out, the coating last up to 5 years and even add a permanent gloss.

I have the blue screen. You are right its a temp fix and its tied to the physical cameras. Ford released new cameras and stopped sale 4 weeks ago because they werent working

It’s exactly why ford did it! There are vents for the rear ac coil that were sucking up exhaust! My family and I got carbon monoxide poisoning from it! They put a carbon monoxide detector in our 2017 explorer and it was 10x the limit you should inhale! Ford bought it back after 6 failed attempts to fix it! They did a tsb on it right after they bought ours back

Ford did the downturned exhaust before the tips because the vacuum created by the car going down the road was supposedly pulling exhaust fumes into the rear of the car via the liftgate. Lot of cops and other owners complained on 16 or so model year and Ford just carried the recall fix forward into 2020+

Thanks for making this! I have a 2020 ST, that I bought in April. Only added the Thermal RD exhaust (2.5"). Do you think it's possible to get upgraded downpipes? Do you think the strut bar actually helps the ride? I have plans to get a rear sway bar and *possibly* springs. I do want to get spacers as well + black lug nuts. Also a S550 Convertible owner myself!

Have u had any leaky trans pan issues? I got mine and the first night at the strip it warped and started leaking. I decided to go for the PPE metal pan that has a plug to skip taking the pan off to service.

Salutation. Great review and insight. @33:10 is the engine On & idling? If so, That’s an identical engine sounds reminds me of my BMW X5 which has the monster hot-v engine! That should tell you a lot. ##As for your wishes….. I’d feedback suggest those to the company. It’s Ford and it’s one of few products that lives longer when kept maintained with care! And if they pay close attention to quality materials they might top-op other companies on the market. One can see they’re almost there. I’m looking to replace my X5 with one of these for my old man …. perhaps I’ll go with the police Interceptor’s. I thank you for sharing Man.

I have a '22 ST in the same color. I had the dealer add the Steeda lowering springs, rear sway bar, front strut tower bar, and Powerstop brake pads as part of their pre-delivery setup. Also upgraded to 295/40 tires on the OEM black wheels, with no-drill splash guards, and the 295 width fits perfectly against the splash guards. Had some exhaust work done as well (removed the rear mufflers, replaced the resonator with two chambered round mufflers, replaced the dual round exhaust tips with single black ovals). Added an oil catch can as well, and that 3.0 Ecoboost engine has nowhere near the accumulation that the 3.6 Jeep Pentastar engine has (I had a Gladiator Rubicon). A local Ford shop that I use for oil changes and tire rotations said it's one of the best-sounding Ecoboost engines they've heard. It's a fun SUV to drive, especially in Sport mode, and I can still get over 30 mpg on freeway trips. I might look into getting a larger intercooler, just for efficiency's sake (cooler intake charge is always a good thing). But with a price of almost $900, plus labor to install, it'll take some advance planning (and lottery winnings!).

You must be rounding or calculating the fuel wrong. 2022 ST is rated 18 city / 25 highway. Only way to get 30mpg would be to draft a semi truck going 60mph with nothing in the car except a driver.

@@msatchmo I'm not doing anything wrong, that's what the readout said on the dash. There was a stretch of highway in western NC, we were on our way to visit relatives in TN, and I glanced over at the dash, and that's what it was displaying at the time. I used to go back and forth from eastern VA to eastern NC about every other weekend, would consistently read high 20's on the dash. Did I ever calculate the tank's mpg by hand? No. Based on the dash displays, my '22 ST got 10 mpg better consistently than my '23 Toyota 4Runner.

Nice work! I have a Europe model (Chigago plant made) Explorer ST-line 457 hp Hybrid version 2021 ym. Meaning that it has 3,0 liter twinturbo 357 hp + electric motor. Very low on fuel, depending if you can charge at least daily. Best wishes Mikko Salomaa, Finland
