This video is for those who are new to synthesizers and who are interested in the Deepmind 12. I cover the basic concepts of how synthesizers are different from other keyboards and give a little overview of subtractive synthesis. I also go over the very basics of the Deepmind 12 so you can get started making your own sounds.

Just unboxed my DM12 about 2 hours ago and set it up. I'm new to synthesis although I've played keyboards and digital synths for over 20 years. But I only used the pre-sets. I thought it was time to try something new after watching hundreds of YT vids with people like you wowing me with their playing skills and knowledge that they were willing to share. Thanks so very much. In fact, you were the main reason I chose the DM12. Well, your tutorials and the fact that it fit my budget. The DM12 is my first true analog synth. So after I set it up I didn't want to waste time. I just dove right in without reading the manual or instructions. I was instantly lost and dumbfounded when it didn't make a sound. I mucked around for a bit and got some beeps and blips -- then I remembered your beginners vids. Your excellent teaching skills showed me the 'ropes.' There's still lots to learn so I'll be hanging around here for awhile. BTW, Behringer should be paying you for all the business you're sending their way!

Such a great resource. It's often easy to forget that not everyone has had exposure to these basic principles, and most manuals do nothing at all to help people understand.

Thank you so much for these videos. I got my DM12 almost a year ago to the day having never really played anything other than stringed instruments I've struggled along (mainly due to lack of time and practice) but really want to learn it all properly. I keep coming back to this vid and hope eventually it'll stick!

Great video. Very difficult concept to explain in such simple terms. So many little aspects of subtractive synths that are by themselves simple but can become very confusing when viewed for the first time. Had a basic knowledge already and I have just bought this synth but your video reiterated a lot of things and also helped me see the various 'modules' in context, which helped me understand them even more. Cheers.

Great tutorial , helped me understand the basics , i made a nice vintage organ sound then changed it into a base wobble :) Now you have started me on the Journey of getting rid of presets that i will never use and making my own sounds that i want , i just need pointed in the right direction on what wave forms to start with for certain sounds, piano , flute , guitar etc ... Thanks , now off to see if you have more DM content

once upon a synth I think doing videos that show us how to program the Deepmind 12 to achieve bass, pads, FM sounds etc in a structured way would be fantastic, especially for us who are new to synthesis. Also, maybe in the future, showing us how you would use those techniques and sounds to produce tracks (i think you have done something similar with the Deepmind to create a beat) and mixing them in a DAW to achieve a single mixed track. Dude, i hope Behringer recognizes your work because you have convinced me to buy a Deepmind 12. Oh, you should sell t-shirts. I would totally buy one!

Wonderful tutorial. I didn’t necessarily need the lesson but reinforcing these ideas to your structure certainly does me some good. Hi! is the ground noisy coming from the Deepmind a bit? I think mine also makes a little bit noise..
@duncanjones7310
@duncanjones7310 3 жыл бұрын
yeah mine is particularly noisy coming out of the headphone output. The trick is to have the volume at a high level coming out of the deepmind (9-10) and then reduce the volume on your interface or amplifier. the noise floor isnt made louder by increasing the volume. so its best to do it this way rather than have a low volume coming out of the deepmind and a high level from the amp. hope that helps.

Hi. Love your videos man! ;) I bought a Deepmind 12 recently (not even a week) but I am having a little problem with it. While using headphones (ath m40x) through the phones stereo output, there is a constant noise if the fan level is above 35 (range from 0 to 255). The noise increases as the fan level increases.. and at value 35 is already at an impractical volume. It is as if the noise from the fan is going directly to my headphones. Connecting the L/R line outputs to my computer (UMC202HD sound card) and DAW, this does not occur. Does anyone has the same problem..
@DarossTheGreat
@DarossTheGreat 4 жыл бұрын
a fan is an electromagnetic motor, it WILL cause noise in an improperly grounded/shielded circuit. you may be able to fix by making a shield around the fan. must be connected to ground.

What's an Attenuator*? *My Neutron arrives tomorrow... *whistles Great video. Got the desktop & full synth version. Also worth mentioning are it's crazy good FX Section & fantastic Wi-Fi editor App on Windows or iOS. Having a large touchscreen makes this thing an absolute breeze to edit quickly. I'm not very analog savvy at all and had written 4 patches within a day or two without looking at the manual. It's VERY intuitive. Best synth I've seen that covers the widest range of playing levels from Absolute Beginners to Wizards & Prophets. Not sorry. ;)
