i'm finding the best approach so far is 1: learn hiragana/katana, 2: learn basic grammar rules, 3: watch japanese entertainment with japanese subs and hiragana subs at the same time, put on google translate what you don't understand, break down the sentence into its words and translate. hand-write kanji occasionally with words you know you won't remember. 4: read. Write some more. 5: (optional:) Go to Japan for a couple weeks and pick up some conversational skills. 6: continue enjoying Japanese entertainment!

Ripe bananas are definitely sweet with no tart or sour qualities that I associate with a lot of other fruits. I suppose unripened bananas taste starchy because less of the starch has been converted to sugars and they have a bit of that earthy slightly 渋い taste that most people don’t find all that pleasant but a ripe banana is definitely 甘い! Sorry for going off on that 🍌 tangent. 😊

These lesson are honestly really great! My wife has been using them for a few months to go through genki and she really enjoys them. The only suggestion I have is making a "how to study with Genki" path video. A lot of beginners are excited to start but don't have a clear path on how they should proceed. I have suggested in the past that people should watch your video on a lesson, then do the workbook exercises, while memorizing the vocab by using an Anki deck for Genki. I feel each lesson should take a week or 2 to memorize all the vocab and practice the grammar. What do you think is a good way to proceed? I am sure your viewers would love to know.

I think it's super valuable that you're letting us know from the start that we can drop the です and か if we aren't using formal Japanese. I remember thinking in the very beginning of my Japanese-learning journey that using です was all the time. Then it just confused me when I started to learn more informal ways to speak Japanese and it honestly made me not want to learn anymore. It was too daunting to have to now "re-learn" everything that I worked so hard on and spent so much time on in my first Japanese high school classes.
