Poni de Cthulhu ah duolingo making it sound like she's eating the whole chicken at once, "kvinnan äter kyckling" is more natural, like it's a portion instead of the full-bodied animal....

Great series! Would be cool if you did entire episodes in Swedish. I’m a Swedish learner from Minnesota and this helps a lot.

I've actually gotten that suggestion before! I did do a live stream entirely in Swedish, but I suppose it is hard to follow along if you don't know Swedish well enough to understand daily speech (as I might talk a little fast sometimes) :D

Hello fellow Swedish learner from Minnesota! What a funny coincidence! Also, I agree- the episodes entire in Swedish would be great! Although English subtitles would also be appreciated in case we hear words we aren’t sure of!

haileytink that's funny! How are you learning? Duolingo? Do you find it difficult?
@haileytink
@haileytink 7 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Erickson Mostly Duolingo and obviously I watch a lot of Swedish KZbinrs haha I also use a few random websites to help master grammar and additional vocab. I don’t find it too difficult but I take my time and repeat lessons several times to make sure I have a firm grasp on each one before I move on. How’s it going for you?

haileytink I've been at it for about 4 months and its getting better but I still get tongue twisted sometimes. Swedish KZbinrs help with listening to conversational Swedish but I need to practice live a speaking more. What are some websites you use?

Tack! Please do more, these are great. I want to move to Sweden if things get too unbearable for me in the US, so I'm learning Swedish NOW. Duolingo only goes so far, and you are definitely more entertaining than Duolingo. Hejdå!

One can also say "God dag". Same thing as good day. It's way more formal than most of these words ("Hej" is the most neutral one). But you wouldn't use "morsning" to others than your friends, more or less. Maybe coworkers after you have gotten to know each other.

To me, 1940s slang like "morsning" sounds more antiquated than classic greetings like god dag, god kväll, välkommen, etc. Things that you didn't even mention, for some reason. (Yes, I'm late to the party, but still.)

So, what does the 'san' mean? It does sound Japanese. 'Hey, mister!' [ヘイさん 'hej san' though would translate as 'Mr Hej.'] See ya later, alligator. [English has rhyming for kids greetings too, but not for people over about 8.]

@@Nackagubben , I thought so, but most greetings in English had a meaning - that no-one would think of today, such as 'goodbye' being like 'God be with ye'. I'm interested in etymology. But, I chatter a bit. Your chatter is good for people to realise how many variations there are. My little town, Kyogle, is so parochial or backward. I noticed a Swedish family [speaking in Swedish] - an extremely rare sight, and had to talk with them - to explain we were in a terrible drought - the place was once very green decades ago. The locals behaved as if they were from Mars. I was so excited to someone from 'the outside world'. Now, because of covid, we can be fined $1000 for being in public! But before this, they were already stopping usable public transport, so youth had to leave to live in another state. NSW [New South Wales] already had laws for arresting people on public land! Our closest capital city, Brisbane, is now cut off from us. It's worse than some crossing into another country, and we have family just 100 kilometres away. It sounds a bit like East Berlin was. I'm trying to make contacts with human rights, but now with covid around, human rights look like they've gone. Psychopaths infiltrate even Lismore's 'Extinction Rebellion' and will not let me post there, or have letters published in the newspapers etc. People with disabilities have no access to their medical needs. Medicine is poor in our region. We can't go to the beach. My vitamin D is extremely low - we have terrible heat, drought and fires, and after rain - millions of mosquitos.
